Chapter 2590: Chapter 1224: Simple-Minded
Instant kill!
It was only two short words, but the impact was no less than a heavy bomb. As long as you weren’t ridiculously ignorant, even that nearly sixty-year-old veggie-selling uncle two li away would feel this was complete fantasy bullshit, pure nonsense.
Anyone even a little rational would start seriously wondering whether the guy who instantly killed Awakening Dragon was cheating, or using some browser-game whale account that had burned tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of money to bully a guy who didn’t even bother to top up the first six yuan.
All in all, this kind of reaction wasn’t exaggerated at all given how Awakening Dragon’s name had already gone viral, and was frankly to be expected.jpg.
But...
"You don’t really seem that surprised."
Awakening Dragon swirled the "Black Storm" in his hand, glanced at Han Gang with a chuckle, the curve at the corner of his mouth actually quite satisfied: "What, you already guessed?"
The latter, face gloomy, gently pinched the bridge of his nose and shook his head: "Not especially surprised, but still shocked. I absolutely did not see it coming, but I can accept it."
"I thought I’d rank a bit higher in your heart."
Awakening Dragon laughed out loud, then patted Han Gang’s shoulder before he could say anything: "Good. If hearing I got insta-killed made you look like your whole worldview just collapsed, I’d actually be disappointed."
"Brother Lei Zi, listen to yourself..."
Han Gang smacked his lips, leaned back in the chair and drawled, "In my heart you can be forever Nanbowan!"
Awakening Dragon rolled his eyes and corrected him dead seriously: "If you can’t say it right, then don’t force it. Your pronunciation just took a detour of like twenty li, aren’t you embarrassed."
"Hey, this makes me sound cultured, okay. I’m not like you, Brother Lei Zi, I didn’t even finish high school."
Han Gang tossed back casually, then straightened his face: "On a serious note, at least for now, I really do think that Cordova is very likely a lot stronger than you, Brother Lei Zi. The reason’s simple. These past six months, you’ve always been near the top of the rankings, your strength basically changing day by day, but it’s still not stable enough. Most of the time you’re hovering around fourth to sixth. But that guy..."
Awakening Dragon smiled and picked up the thread: "Has been nailed to second place like iron, not even a ripple."
"Exactly. So based on your little bro’s years of gaming experience, that alone already says a lot. One guy is oscillating between four, five, six. The other is parked solid at number two. For people to say there’s not a big gap there? No one’s buying that."
Han Gang took a big swig of his cocktail, wiped his mouth with the back of his hand: "And The Realm of Innocence is a completely different beast from anything we’ve played before. The skill ceiling is absurdly high, the floor is stupidly low. If you can’t handle it, you might not even beat a mud rat. If you’re good, you’re terrifyingly good. Without even going far, just the gap between you and me, Brother Lei Zi—looks like it’s only thirty-something places, but if we really throw down, three of me stacked together might still not beat one of you."
Awakening Dragon didn’t respond to that, just shook his head lightly.
"Hey, we’re all family here."
Han Gang, a bit displeased, rubbed his nose and pouted: "Don’t do the humble act with me."
"I’m not being humble."
Awakening Dragon took a sip of his drink, grinning: "I shook my head because, at your level, I should be able to beat ten of you."
Han Gang instantly deflated. After a long moment he finally roared, "Brother Lei Zi, you can’t just go blurting out the harsh truth like that! Weren’t you always the modest type?!"
"I didn’t say anything harsh."
Awakening Dragon shrugged and chuckled: "And I wasn’t being immodest either."
Han Gang was stunned: "So when you say you can beat ten of me... you’re actually being polite?"
"Mm."
Maybe because his alcohol resistance wasn’t that great, Awakening Dragon seemed especially "honest" today.
"Sigh, that’s why I say this game is busted."
Han Gang quickly accepted reality and didn’t really stay depressed, just ground his teeth and ranted: "Back in the games we played before, as long as you were a top player, the strength gap wasn’t that huge. Wins and losses usually came down to one detail, one mistake. If one guy got ganked by two, that was basically guaranteed death. Even for a consistently super first-rate player like you, Brother Lei Zi, if we played ten matches in a game we’re both good at, you’d still drop a game or two to me. But once it’s The Realm of Innocence—damn it all, beating ten of me, how is that even reasonable?!"
Awakening Dragon laughed freely, smiling: "Tell me about it. You probably don’t know this yet, but right before we moved into The Realm of Innocence, the manager and the boss actually came to me specifically and asked me... if I could give up this game."
"What?!"
Han Gang’s eyes went wide, but he was in the scene after all, and even though he was still young, he’d at least been a solid first-rate Professional Player for two full years. So before Awakening Dragon even explained, he quickly caught on and said in sudden realization, "Oh, oh! They were afraid you’d fall off your pedestal, right? Damn, didn’t expect that, turns out they do get it."
"Everyone has their specialty, we all eat off this trade. You really think they’d just grab some random outsider to be our manager? That you just need some rich bumpkin who can afford our contracts and he can run the club to this size? Don’t underestimate people."
Awakening Dragon wagged a finger and said calmly: "The boss and Brother Zhang both saw it. The Realm of Innocence has huge Potential, but for someone in my position it also comes with huge risk. Honestly, personally I don’t really care, but the name ’Awakening Dragon’ has reached the point where it can’t really afford to lose anymore."
