Chapter 806: Chapter 806: Death_1
Purple Summers held her phone, momentarily dazed.
Alexander Summers’s phone was rarely off. Even in situations inconvenient for disturbances, he would set it to silent mode, not shut it down completely.
After waiting briefly, she called the number again, but it was still turned off.
Suddenly remembering last night’s call, Purple’s heart began pounding fiercely!
What’s going on?
The words he said… was he trying to hint something to me?
...
Purple became flustered and quickly dialed Atra Blanc’s number; Atra picked up the phone promptly.
“Purple? Is the surgery over?” Atra asked.
“Yes, it’s finished.” Purple asked, “Mom, is brother at home?”
“Oh, him? I haven’t seen him for several days…” Atra spoke casually, as it was not uncommon for Alexander to not come home for a few days at a time, so she did not find it strange.
“Do you need to speak with your brother about something?” Atra said, “When he comes back, I’ll have him call you. Purple, how are you feeling now? Are you tired? Does the wound hurt? Maybe Mom should come over and take care of you…”
“No need, I’m fine.” Purple didn’t have the heart to talk more with Atra and quickly made up an excuse to end the call.
She couldn’t lie still anymore, her heart was filled with trepidation, and the more she thought about it, the more scared she became.
She carefully remembered last night’s call but couldn’t make sense of it.
“He told me not to rush back after the surgery. Could it be that someone in Clearwater means me harm, or is he in danger?”
“He said not to trust anyone. Was he telling me to be on alert or specifically indicating that someone would deceive me?”
“He said what the eyes see might not be true—what could that mean?”
Purple’s head felt like it was about to explode. A myriad of thoughts filled her mind, pushing her to the brink of madness!
Suddenly, she recalled the strange sound at the end of that phone call.
…Was it a gunshot?
Purple was terrified!
In fact, she could no longer be certain whether that sound had originated from reality or her dreams. Her head was too muddled, she was extremely tired, and her mental state was poor, making it impossible to verify the bits of information that felt both real and unreal.
If it was a gunshot, could Alexander have been injured? If it wasn’t a gunshot, then what was that noise?
Asking Atra would be pointless. Calling Zack Wallace didn’t succeed either; the call didn’t go through!
For the first time in her life, Purple experienced a feeling of utter helplessness!
She thought of how news media routinely published gossip about the four major clans, especially reveling in reporting the internecine struggles within the powerful families.
She checked the phone and saw several pieces of prominent news related to Christopher Simonson.
The news about Christopher Simonson’s leukemia had been tightly kept under wraps until the issue with the bone marrow supply was resolved. The Public Relations Team at the Presidential Palace, specially in charge of public sentiment, immediately announced his condition. By deliberately guiding the narrative, the press portrayed Simonson as a cancer-fighting hero, with passages exalting the fearlessness and optimism of the president in the face of his illness.
While the praise was somewhat exaggerated, such efforts were indeed necessary as the president’s image serves as an inspiration to the public, much like a star—he must always be positive, healthy, and just.
Purple scrolled through her phone for a while and saw no news about the Howard Family. She belatedly realized that since her arrival in Kingsley, her phone had been automatically pushing news about the local area.
The four major clans: Howard, Graves, Carter, York.
Only the Carter and York families had a presence in the northern region, while the Howard and Graves families were established in the south.
Purple set her location to Clearwater, and immediately a striking headline popped up: Howard Corporation’s family head deceased! Yacht explosion leaves no survivors!
Purple’s vision blacked out all at once.
