Chapter 247: You always don’t have to fight

Theo’s POV:

It has been a day since I sent that message through Tangerine. Still, I have not gotten a response from her. Did she even get my message or not?

One thing I know for sure is that Oberon is planning something big against me. I should brace myself for all the challenges that are about to come my way.

I expected that Tangerine would not come back to Selene once she got to the Highland. But she came back to Amelia’s place, and now she was napping in her cage peacefully.

I wanted to ask the firebird if she saw Celestia or not. But she is a bird; she couldn’t say anything more than just chirping. Or maybe Tangerine never saw Celestia—that is why she returned.

Amelia bought a bowl of berries and placed it next to Tangerine’s cage. She didn’t wake up even after she smelled food.

"Lately, she has been napping a lot," Amelia said. "And she also disappears from her cage a lot of times and returns back after a while—"

Interesting! Why would she disappear from her cage secretly without permission of Amelia? Why would anyone do something without the knowledge of their keeper?!

"She has a lover," I declared after a while. "That is why she disappears from her cage to meet up with her secret lover—"

"Theo," Amelia shouted and frowned at me. "How dare you speak ill of my child? I didn’t raise her like a sneaky Succubus girl—"

"Oh, come on," I laughed at the innocent strawberry blonde-haired girl. "You have been keeping your child high and dry for a thousand years. She too has needs, do you know?"

But I stopped smiling when I realized that I was in the same situation as Tangerine. I was high and dry for a thousand years with my love. And that tragic situation doesn’t seem to end because of Oberon. I wondered what he was planning now.

Amelia saw the change in my expression, and she understood that I went back to the pathetic mode again.

"Theo," she said and held my arm. "You will get her back soon. Don’t worry—"

I just nodded and didn’t say anything. Then she took her hand away from my arm and said, "But I think that you made a mistake with that letter. Celestia wouldn’t like it if you blackmail her like this."

"But what other choice do I have, Amelia?" I sighed. "She wouldn’t come to me if I asked her nicely, would she?"

"She probably won’t," Amelia agreed. "But I thought that you wanted real love from her. How can you prove your love by threatening her?"

"Again, Amelia. I have no other choice than this. I tried hard to talk to her, but she wouldn’t understand. I just can’t let her live in lies and suffering anymore. I want her to be happy, which only I can provide that to her—"

Amelia quietly listened to my long explanation. Then she said, "Sometimes, instead of making the people we love happy, we end up giving them even more misery—"

Just when I thought that Amelia understood me better than others, she said something like this and disheartened me. I held the edge of the table that was on my side firmly and said, "So are you saying that I am giving out more misery to Celestia?"

"Not exactly," she shuddered. "I am just saying that-"

A knock on the door made her stop talking. Amelia immediately ran to the door, mostly as she was afraid of me. I expected that it would be Ivory on the other side of the door, or maybe even Cynthia—but it was just the Siren girl who lived next door.

"Peach, what is the matter?" Amelia asked her neighbor.

"Come to the seashore now! A lot of men have arrived," she said enthusiastically.

"A lot of perverts?" I asked and paced towards the door.

"No, they seem like warriors. And we didn’t attack them as they didn’t step down from their ships."

I didn’t have to ask her any more questions to know what was happening. They must be Oberon’s troops, and they are here to rescue Darius. A smart move by him!

Instead of letting Celestia reunite with me, he thinks that he can defeat me with some lame troops?! Sometimes he acts dim-witted, just like his son.

"Okay, Peach. We both will be on our way. You go to the seashore now and watch the scene," Amelia said to her and shut the door.

Then she looked up at me. "Theo, you can’t hurt those warriors. If you do something to them, then you will be forever a monster to Celestia’s eyes—"

That fact hit me hard! I didn’t even notice the twisted game that Oberon was playing. So he willingly sacrificed a portion of his troops to get destroyed by me.

It means that he doesn’t care about the well-being of his troops. All he wants is to label me as a murderer to everyone in the realm—especially to Celestia. He is willing to go to any lengths to stop her from reuniting with me!

I turned away from her and walked to the window. I leaned my hands on the table and gritted my teeth. "He is making things hard for me again—"

"Yes, he is," Amelia said while she stepped towards me. "But you don’t have to fall in his trap again, Theo. You can gracefully handle this situation and sabotage his evil plan. If you do that, even Celestia will appreciate you—"

I looked to my side and glanced at her golden-brown eyes. But as she came near me, they got changed into lighter shades of hazel as the sun rays outside the window reflected back at her eyes.

"Fine, Amelia! You are an expert in acting calm during a crisis. So now tell me how exactly I can send off those warriors from our land without hurting them?" 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢

"You don’t always have to fight, Theo," Amelia smiled. "Sometimes you can solve a crisis just with the power of your words—"
