Chapter 87: Chapter 87

Penelope had left Octavia and rushed towards the dungeons.

"My princess," a soldier held out hand and stopped her.

"if you try and stop me," she said and glared and him, "you’ll regret it."

The soldier lowered his arm and stepped to the side.

Penelope hurried into the dungeon and searched for Iris. Her eyes darted from one cells to the other as dhe breathed heavily.

Her legs buckled and she struggle to keep herself afloat when their eyes met.

She rushed towards her, her grip around the bars tight. "I’m so sorry," she said and began to cry. "I did this. This is all my fault."

Iris passed a hand through the bars and held Penelope’s face. "It’s alright Penelope, I’m alright."

"All og this is my fault, we should never have become friends."

"You look ugly when you cry you know."

Penelope chuckled, "now’s not the time Iris."

"Now is exactly the time, you’re talking to me again."

Penelope lowered her eyes. "I’m sorry, i thought i was protecting you," she said and her hands tightened on tbe prison bars. "But now i know i was just being cowardly. She was never going to stop."

"Your relationship with her is so strange, you know."

Penelope chuckled, "you don’t need to tell me, i know."

"Is she obsessed with you or something?" The crease in Penelope’s brow deepened. "It’s just so strange how she’s fixated on your pain."

Penelope nodded. "I’ll tell you all about it," she said quietly, "when i can."

Iris peered deeply into her eyes. "You’re stronger than you know Pen, don’t let your sister make you think otherwise." Penelope nestled into her face onto her hand and closed her eyes shut.

"You really missed me, didn’t you?" Iris chuckled.

Penelope pushed herself away and rolled her eyes. "Time inside this cell will do you a world of good."

Iris chuckled.

Penelope scanned the entire prison. "I’ll be back soon Iris," she said, turning back to her.

Iris nodded and Penelope left without turning back so Iris would not see her crying. She hurried outnof the dungeon and went straight to ber brother.

"What is all this about?" She asked as she barged into his room fuming.

"I’m sure you’re already aware." His voice was flat. "We have a spy and we’ve narrowed it down to thoaw three grils.

"That’s ridiculous!"

Adonis rolled his eyes. "You’ve seen it."

"Iris? A spy? Is Octavia alright? What sort of investigation were made ro come to these conclusions?"

"We’ve been over this before Pen," Adonis said with a deep sigh. "If you want information, ask your sister."

"Why do we keep letting her do these things?" Penelope mused, "she just keeps on doing worse things."

As Penelope headed out of his room, she saw Astrid rush into Adonis’s room, and banged the door behind her. Penelope immediately plastered her ears to the door and listened in.

"This is not the time Astrid," Adonis sat up,

"I really do not have the strength for this discussion."

"You don’t have the strength?!" Astrid scoffed. "My sister is in a stupid dungeon because your sister is some how convinced that she’s a spy."

"As you’ve said, my sister. Not me, my sister. How was i supoosed to know who she was trying to implicate."

"I don’t care what comes out from that stupid mouth of your," Astrid hissed. "Fix this or I’ll give your family something to actually talk about."

Penelope fell forwards immediately Astrid pulled the door open. She swiftly steps to the side and Astrid sizes her up befoee leaving.

"So..." She said as she stepped bsck inside her brothers room. "Are you finally going to listen to me or would you rather like that she makes a mess of all of us?"

"GET OUT!!!" Adonis shouted.

Penelope raised her hands and rolled her eyes. "Fine fine. Stop being so sensitive."

Adonis immediately stood up and Penelope rushed out of the room.

Penelope went back into her room and sat despondently by the window. How would she overcome this? How would she be able to save Iris from her sister?

She closed her eyes and rested her head on the chair. Her door creaks open and she looks uo to see Adonis standing by the door.

He enters the room and closes the door. "I’m tired of her." He said and scrubs his face with hand. "I reall am."

Penelope looked up at her brother, sighed and aaverted her gaze back to the window. "I love her," she said and paused. "And seeing her in there scares me."

"Interesting," he said, "but not suprised." He sat down on the bed.

"What do we do?"

"Just to be clear, which of the girls are we talking about?"

Penelope sighed. "Iris, you idiot."

"Oh, right. Yes, her." He chuckled. "So we both fancy people from that family?"

"Can we stick to the point?"

"Don’t worry." He said, "i have a plan." 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

"Which is?"

"I’ll investigate. And you simply sit and look pretty."

"While Iris is in that cell? No, thanky you."

"Where do we start."

Adonis thought for a while. "We’ll start from her sources. Everyone she interacts with and claims might have found some evidence."

"That’s the plan?" Penelope raised an eyebrow. "And when or if you find these sources what would you do?"

"We cant be sure of what she’s planning or what she’s actually doing. We need to plan accordingly."

Penelope shook her head lightly. "You know, this is why we can never beat her in this stupid game she’s playing. She’s always going to be ten steps ahead. And you’re always going to look atupid in front of her."

"I’m well aware."

Penelope nodded. "That’s a good first steps."

Adonis scoffed.

"Work your magic on father. I’m sure something can also be done on that end."

"My magic?" Adonis asked incredulously.

"Please don’t act like youre not father’s favorite. You know it, i know it, the world knows it."

Adonsi held his jaw in his hand. "Why don’t do that instead?"

"It would would a lot more suspicious if i did that Adonis." Penelope groaned and shook her head. "This is why i say you don’t really have a lot going for you in that head of yours."

"Alright, Alright."
