Chapter 1204: Chapter 1218: About to Incite Public Outrage

"Grandma Li is getting on in years, of course she doesn’t want to live in the city. I remember my own grandma was the same back then, always saying the air in the city was bad and there were no close relatives around. But wasn’t it really just resistance to this unknown kind of life in the city? They’re not educated, it’s hard for them to accept all the high-tech stuff in apartment buildings. They don’t even know how to use the elevator, and climbing stairs is exhausting, so of course they’re that resistant."

Mentioning Grandma Li made An Ran think of her own grandma again. In these fifteen years with the An Family, the one who treated her the best was that grandma.

"Oh right, Lu Yi, how could you go to Qingfeng Town without telling me? I was in such a hurry that day I didn’t even get to say goodbye to Grandma Li." If she’d known Lu Yi was going back to Qingfeng Town, An Ran would’ve insisted on going with him no matter what.

"I was going to tell you, but then I heard Instructor Mu was being transferred, so I didn’t mention it," during that period An Ran was running to the villa every day. How many lives would he need to dare take her away at a time like that?

Seeing the helpless yet teasing look in Lu Yi’s eyes, An Ran wisely changed the subject. "When is Changsheng going to register at the school? Do you need our help then?"

"His registration’s set for next week. I won’t need help at the school. Today I’ll find a way to get in touch with Grandma Li and Changsheng so they can be mentally prepared at home. When the time comes I’ll go pick them up. You go check how things are at the Saintly Charity Nursing Home. If it works out, once I pick them up I’ll take them straight to the nursing home. Knowing what Grandma Li is like, she definitely wouldn’t be comfortable staying in a hotel."

"Okay, I’ll wait for you guys at the Saintly Charity Nursing Home then."

Talking as they walked, the few of them entered the cafeteria.

"An Ran, over here."

A man’s sudden shout came from a corner of the cafeteria, drawing a round of side glances from the students inside.

An Ran saw Zheng Kai standing on a chair, waving both arms at them like crazy. When he saw her look over, he pointed at the trays on the table in front of him. There were clearly two trays there; looked like he’d already bought food for her.

"Looks like I can go over first and save seats for you guys," An Ran pointed at the seat beside Zheng Kai.

It wasn’t that she was dying to eat that already-served food; she was just worried that if she let that guy keep standing on the chair calling her name so loudly, he was going to rile up public anger.

She really didn’t doubt that there was some kind of power gathered in the looks the students around were giving them—enough that they might chuck the half-eaten, sandbag-sized steamed buns in front of them at him.

"Go ahead. What do you want to eat? I’ll bring it over for you in a bit," Lu Yi’s expression was calm, unreadable, but his gaze toward the man in the distance was a little cold.

"No need, I’m not picky. Just buy your own food," An Ran waved her hand as she spoke and walked in Zheng Kai’s direction.

Seeing An Ran come over, Zheng Kai jumped down from the chair and grabbed a napkin from the table to wipe the chair off, his face unable to hide his excitement.

"I had a feeling you’d be here soon. An Ran, I specially got this meal for you, it’s all good for making blood. Hurry and eat. Oh right, I’ll go get you a bowl of soup too."

Without giving her a chance to object, he took off like a gust of wind.

An Ran looked at the food on the tray in front of her: stir-fried blood tofu, stir-fried pork liver with spinach, and plain stir-fried carrots.

"..."

She felt she’d just made a very serious mistake. Would it still be in time if she asked Lu Yi to get her another meal now?

She looked over to where Lu Yi, Xiao Xiao, and Zheng Kai were already heading this way together. She could only pin her hopes on that bowl of soup.
