Chapter 349: The Questions & Doubts

*Flush*

The water splashed loudly from the tap as I stood in front of the basin in the hospital washroom. I cupped my hands and splashed cold water on my face several times. *Splash* *Splash*. The coolness felt good against my hot skin, but it didn’t help clear the heavy thoughts in my head.

I turned off the tap and stood there in silence, looking down at the wet floor tiles. Drops of water fell from my chin onto the sink.

"Huff... huff... arghmm...haaaahhh.." I exhaled deeply and coughed a little, trying to clear my throat.

Slowly, I lifted my head and looked at myself in the mirror. Water droplets were still clinging to my hair and face. My eyes looked tired and worried.

"What’s going on..." I muttered quietly to myself.

I stared at my reflection for a moment longer. "How come she doesn’t know who Sonny is?" I asked myself, blinking slowly.

She had introduced me to him herself yesterday. She came out of his car right in front of me. She even said his name clearly. There was no way she didn’t know who he was. But what if she lost those memories after she fell down? And more than that...

My thoughts stopped for a second as I remembered the doctor’s words from yesterday.

"We found a heavy amount of drugs in her body," the doctor had said.

"What was that about?" I asked myself in the mirror, my voice barely above a whisper.

Where was she yesterday? And how did she end up consuming so much that she lost the memory of the entire night? Just like that? It didn’t make any sense.

I gripped the edge of the basin with both hands and leaned forward a little, still looking at my reflection. My mind kept running in circles.

"I must know," I whispered. "I must figure this out as soon as possible."

The hospital washroom felt too quiet. The only sound was the occasional drip of water from the tap. My heart was beating fast, and a heavy feeling sat in my stomach. Aeri was lying in the room just down the hall, coughing up blood and unable to remember important things. I needed answers — for her sake and for mine.

My look in the mirror was no less than of a detective that suddenly got a heart attack with the string of doubts. The questions in my head weren’t going away. I had to find out what really happened to Aeri last night.

I stood in front of the mirror in the hospital washroom, water still dripping from my face. I stared at my own tired eyes for a long moment.

"Something is really fishy here..." I said under my breath.

I reached out, pulled a couple of tissues from the dispenser, and wiped my face and hands roughly. The tissues came away damp. I crumpled them up and threw them into the dustbin with a soft thud. Then I just stood there in silence, the only sound being the faint drip of the tap behind me.

"I must meet this Sonny guy, before anyone else..before Aeri." I muttered, clenching my jaw.

My instincts had been warning me the whole time yesterday. The way he smiled — so confident and smooth — it felt fake. That fucker didn’t look like a good person at all. It was like looking at someone who knew exactly how to twist people around his finger.

Aeri is too innocent. She believes sweet talk too quickly without thinking twice. She always sees the good in everyone, even when it’s not really there.

The nurses had clearly told me they wouldn’t let me back in to see Aeri until evening. That gave me at least six to eight hours. Plenty of time to do something.

*Clack*

I opened the washroom door and stepped out into the long hospital corridor. I shoved both hands deep into my pockets and started walking toward the main exit. My mind was racing so fast I barely noticed the people passing by — doctors, nurses, patients waiting on benches.

"Where and how should I find this fucker now?" I asked myself quietly as I walked.

The cold afternoon air wrapped around me the moment I stepped outside the hospital building. It felt sharp against my skin after being inside the warm corridors. I kept walking, shoulders hunched, eyes fixed on the ground in front of me.

"If I remember correctly, he said he also owns an agency for website and app development," I muttered. Suddenly my eyes widened. That could be the way to find him. Maybe his company had a name, a website, or an address I could track down.

I have to protect Aeri from him. I can’t let him come near her ever again. He must have done something to her. The thought made my blood boil. My hands tightened into fists inside my pockets. If he hurt her or gave her those drugs, I wasn’t going to let it slide.

I picked up my pace, almost jogging now as I headed toward the main road. My heart was beating hard with anger and worry. Aeri was lying weak in that bed, coughing blood and unable to remember basic things from yesterday. She trusted the wrong person, and now she was paying for it.

I pulled out my phone while still walking and opened the browser. My fingers moved quickly over the screen as I started searching for anything that could lead me to Sonny — his name, the agency, anything I could remember from yesterday.

The cold wind kept blowing, but I didn’t feel it much anymore. All I could think about was finding this guy and figuring out exactly what happened last night. I had to get answers before evening, before I went back to Aeri’s room.

I kept moving forward with determined steps, my mind set on one thing only — finding Sonny and making sure he couldn’t hurt her and use her again.
