Chapter 120: No Boundaries [2]

"Irritated?"

I twirled to Zade in speed.

"What?"

"You always feel irritated after taking pills."

I crossed my arms, doing my best not to look down and find the second snake. "You know a lot about me."

"Yes, I do."

"Knowing about your investment, you really put in so much work."

"I always take business seriously."

"Is that all I am to you? Your investment."

He took a step closer, and it took everything in me not to move. "You’re my wife."

That shouldn’t affect me, but it does.

"What do you really wanna ask me about, kitten?" he asked as if sensing there was something at the tip of my tongue.

There was, but at the same time, I don’t know. All I knew was there was so much I wanna say and ask, but I didn’t know where to start.

So I chose the easier route.

"I’ll sleep comfortably in my room." I walked past him, grabbed the silk robe I spotted on the sofa, and wore it.

I held the doorknob, sighing in relief that the door wasn’t locked.Without looking back, I left the room.

I closed the door and leaned against it, staying there for a while before I got a move on.

I hugged myself as I roamed the hallway, feeling the night cold. The wall scones were lit, so I wasn’t worried about being spooked by any threatening moving shadow. But the constant creak from the window was starting to creep me out.

I’ll be in my room soon.

Having that thought in mind, I hastened my steps, but stopped midway when the hairs at the back of my neck stood on end.

I turned so fast I almost lost balance, my heart pounding in my chest.

There’s no one. I-I thought there was someone there.

Why was I so jumpy? I mean, it’s not like the twins were gonna come take their pound of flesh or something, or Elliot shooting me in the head.

I giggled at that thought because it sounded so ridiculous. Huh... imagine that, two months ago I would have peed myself at that thought, but here I was giggling.

Hehe... oh yeah, I’m losing my mind, ain’t I?

The path to the psych ward is just getting closer and closer.

"Madam."

"Oh, my God!" I jumped, backing away as far as possible.

"I-I didn’t mean to scare you," Cynthia said apologetically.

"C-Cynthia?" I cleared my throat. "You’re back from your leave."

"Yes, madam. Are you okay? I’m sorry for scaring you."

"No, it’s okay, I um..." I placed my hand on my chest, still vibrating, before looking over to what I thought was someone. "Thought it was a ghost."

"A ghost?!"

"Never mind! I thought you wouldn’t be back until next month."

"Oh, madam, I decided to come back earlier. I saw the news."

"What news?" I blinked.

"The bear attacked during the hunt."

"O-Oh..."

"I was worried, so I had to come back as soon as possible."

"Cynthia," I said softly. "You didn’t have to."

"I’m just glad you’re okay."

A smile curled on my lips. "Thank you."

~☆~

I groaned, using the covers to block the sunlight away.

Why is it morning so soon? I have just closed my eyes for what, one hour? I wish it were longer, because I was still sleepy. Thankfully, no more nightmares.

The moment I got back to my room last night, I was so tired and collapsed on the bed.

I yawned, sitting up, hissing when my ass throbbed. I keep forgetting that sitting is now a tedious task.

I opened my eyes.

"Christ!" My back slammed against the headboard.

"Breakfast?" Zade asked, as if he hadn’t almost given me a heart attack.

Good thing he was in clothes. But it seemed like being in clothes was way worse, if that’s even possible. His brown-chocolate dress shirt clung to the hard lines of his physique, tucked in tailored trousers.

He was wearing glasses too, which could only mean he came here from work or whatever label was tagged in that area.

He always had a way of rendering me speechless and awed whenever I saw him in glasses.

Zade sat on the bed, and it dipped from his weight. My eyes followed as he placed the wooden tray over my lap.

"You slept quite longer this time. A new record."

"You—"

"Eat."

There it was, that authority in his tone that compelled me to listen. Or maybe it was the sting in my ass from his wild punishment that forced me to.

My ass still hurts, but not as much; he must have applied something on it to make it better.

He always does things like that.

"D-Did you make this?" I asked, clutching the cup of coffee to sip.

He grinned. "Something tells me you’d be shocked when I answer. Is it so hard to picture me making breakfast?"

"Yes," I replied. "I picture those hands for killing only."

"Trust me, little kitten. These hands can do a lot more than that."

"I know that—Ahem, I mean, sure, whatever." I shoved the croissant in my mouth, hoping this conversation would end.

Zade simply eyed me amusedly and I did anything but look him in the eye, settling my attention on the calla lilies in the small base just beside my breakfast.

"Calla lilies," I mumbled under my breath. "Why calla lilies?"

I was genuinely curious because I kept seeing them everywhere, or better yet, Zade always gave them to me. It was there during the dinner date, it was there in his room, even the baths he drew for me had them too.

I pinned my eyes on him with a questionable look. "Why them?"

"Because they are your favorite."

My favorite. He said something like that before.

"So what just magically popped them out when you need them?"

"No. It comes from somewhere."

"Where?"

"Curious kitten." He rose to his feet, dipping his hands in his pocket. "Finish your breakfast. Then I’ll show you where they come from."
