Chapter 865: Chapter 34: Witch and Wraith

For a demon that has survived a thousand years without dying, being verbally humiliated by a lowly human was undeniably something that filled it with fury.

But rage was useless; the violent roar gradually calmed. Thinking it over carefully, this human was so despicable that if it flew into a rage because of him, it would only tumble once more into this vile human’s trap.

"Human insect, I’ll concede you took the first move. But what do you plan to do about these two women?"

Suppressing the flames of anger surging in its heart, the demon let out a laugh laced with coldness.

It had indeed let anger cloud its judgment, but once it calmed down, it discovered the crux of the matter.

Even if one severed one’s own connection to Chakra, there was absolutely no need to worry, was there?

How is a Ninja supposed to fight after losing their Chakra?

Rely on Natural Energy?

That energy was special, yes, but relying on that alone was far from enough to pose a fatal threat to it.

Therefore, even if Hakushi possessed a method to cut off its Dark Energy, at most it only served as a means of self‑preservation before it.

Most importantly, the other two women who had come along with him might not use such a special Jutsu capable of blocking its dark devouring.

Only to see that after the black torrent crashed through, Ruri and Ayane, who had fallen to the ground, were now slowly rising to their feet.

A layer of pitch‑black dense mist spread over their bodies, rolling and surging across them like flowing water.

The Sharingan and Byakugan had turned into boundless, fathomless black, completely saturated by the darkness of the demon; when those eyes swept over, they gave off a horrifying chill that made one’s skin crawl.

"Humans have always been shortsighted, never thinking ahead. Or is it that these two women are utterly worthless to you? Either way, I’d like to see the look of despair on your face when you’re killed by them."

The two new pieces it had acquired were formidable in their own right.

Among all the humans it had controlled over the past millennium, Ruri and Ayane’s strength ranked near the top. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

Fighting with them now was like a tiger sprouting wings.

After Ruri and Ayane both stood up, the light in their eyes, under the corrosion of darkness, became utterly dull, like a pool of dead water without the slightest ripple.

Yet murderous intent seethed off them; one could well imagine that the posture they now presented to the enemy was perilous beyond measure.

Seeing this scene, Hakushi fell briefly silent, gazing back with calm eyes.

To the demon, this merely looked like Hakushi was putting on a show of nonchalance.

In its estimation, his heart must already be wracked with terror and regret.

It had long since seen through the weakness and incompetence of humans.

"Go, kill him!"

The demon issued its command in an imperious tone.

Ninja whose bodies were corroded by its dark origin could absolutely not act against its will.

Humans could not face its darkness head‑on.

Under its dominion of darkness, they would only panic, tremble, scream in terror, and weep in despair.

This was something the demon knew innately.

Struggling with all her might, her body violently shaking, Ruri bowed her head deeply, long hair spilling down as one hand clutched her forehead, as though it hurt her unbearably there.

Ayane made almost the exact same movement; both were struggling with everything they had, trying to break free of the demon’s shackles.

They strained with the Donjutsu of Sharingan and Byakugan to oppose the darkness that had invaded their bodies.

This darkness, forged from the essence of countless human natures, was by no means a weight that a human body could easily bear.

On Ruri’s body, Susanoo’s Chakra construct once again began to slowly take form.

The difference was that Susanoo was no longer a vivid blood‑red; on that bloody hue had been overlaid the qualities of darkness, turning it into a shade of dark red verging on black.

The giant sword was drawn from the air as well, its blade dyed a brand‑new dark red, more solid and razor‑sharp than any Chakra Giant Sword it had produced before.

And when one gazed upon the blade, the darkness enshrouding it would influence the mind, effectively unleashing a High-level Genjutsu without conscious intent, dragging out the deepest terrors in one’s heart.

The dark red giant sword rose high, lifted to its utmost height, then stopped, as if frozen there, still not striking.

Kill—

The demon’s order, laced with the ecstasy of destruction, was transmitted once more with flawless precision into Ruri’s mind through Chakra.

Immediately after, a dark red sword light of pure destruction tore through the resistance of the air, like a wild horse shaking off all reins, hurtling forth mercilessly as it blasted apart the rocky ground underfoot.

The magma chamber beneath the earth split cleanly in two as the slash struck the demon’s true body, hidden in the magma, dead on.

A shrill, miserable scream burst from the demon’s mouth.

Countless tentacles thrust out of the magma, thrashing wildly; wherever they touched the dark red blade, the pain was so excruciating that its body could no longer move of its own accord.

It could only share out the agony in such an exaggerated manner.

Yet compared to this sudden wave of pain, it was Ruri’s current action that truly incensed the demon the most.

"Why is this?—No, this is impossible! How could a human possibly—why?"

Impossible!

Utterly impossible!

If Hakushi severed his own connection to Chakra to avoid its dark corrosion, that was understandable.

But why was it that a human whose body housed its very dark origin could defy its will and attack it—its so‑called ’master’?

The occurrence of such a scene was beyond anything the demon could comprehend.
