Chapter 263: He Can’t Deceive Me
Yvonne sat opposite them. She just felt badly hurt inside.
At last, she couldn’t stand it anymore and stood up to go to the washroom.
On the way back, she met James who was talking on the phone in the corridor. She didn’t know what was said on the other end of the line. James furrowed his brows.
Yvonne couldn’t help but frowned when she saw him.
She thought the Tomaville was so small that no matter where she went, she would meet him.
She was about to walk past with her head down as if she hadn’t seen him, however, she was called out.
"Yvon, why are you here?" James greeted her.
Seeing that she had been discovered, Yvonne had no choice but to stop and greet him, "What a coincidence! You are here too."
James nodded and looked around. "Are you here for dinner?"
Yvonne was speechless. She thought inwardly, "What am I doing here if not for dinner?"
She nodded to James.
James was stunned for a moment and then asked, "Are you alone or..."
"With a friend." Yvonne replied.
Hearing this, James asked almost subconsciously, "A friend? A man or a woman?"
Yvonne didn’t expect that he would ask this, staring at him speechlessly.
James hurriedly explained, "I mean, if it’s a woman, I’ll go over and greet her. If it’s a man, then let it go. I’m afraid it’s inconvenient." He stammered.
Yvonne frowned. She was not a fool, so it was impossible that she didn’t understand what James meant. She said directly, "My friend is a man, it is not convenient."
Without waiting for James’ response, she walked past him and left.
James was stunned for a moment before realizing what she said. He quickly grabbed her and asked, "Um... Have you found your house?"
Yvonne replied, "Thanks to you, I found it."
She broke away from James.
James did not understand what she meant and continued to ask, "Where is it?"
Yvonne frowned. "Why should I tell you?"
"I have no other intentions. I just want to help you check if it’s safe or not. I’m worried about you living alone." James explained.
Yvonne sneered and said, "Thank you. It will be safest as long as you stay away from me."
After saying that, she turned around and left.
James stood there, feeling blank for a long time before he left with boredom.
When Yvonne returned to her seat, Janice was alone.
"Where is your husband?" She asked.
There was no doubt that Janice would not tell her Christopher had already paid the bill.
Therefore, Janice said, "He went to answer the phone."
Yvonne did not doubt. She hesitated for a moment and said, "Can you tell your husband and ask him to keep it a secret for me? I don’t want anyone to know my current address."
Janice blinked and said, "Are you talking about James?"
Yvonne did not deny it.
"Seriously, is he wooing you?" Janice understood and asked.
Yvonne’s expression was a little unnatural. "It’s nothing. Don’t talk nonsense."
"I’m not talking nonsense. He always asks me about you recently." Janice told her.
Since she had said so, Yvonne could only confess. "Maybe. But I have already rejected him."
Janice nodded with understanding when she heard this. "That’s good. I was worried that he would deceive you before."
"James? Deceive me?" Yvonne chuckled.
Janice said, "Don’t underestimate James. I heard from my husband that he is very outstanding, especially in business."
"Is that so?" Yvonne lacked interest. She really did not care about James at all.
Seeing that she wasn’t interested, Janice did not say anything.
When the meal was over, Yvonne went to the checkout, only to find that Christopher had already paid for the bill.
She felt a little speechless and said, "Didn’t we agree that I would pay the bill?"
...
Janice held her shoulders and said, "You can consider this to satisfy my vanity of flaunting my husband and wealth."
Yvonne could not conceal a snort of laughter.
"Do you have vanity? Come on, show me." She said.
Janice threw a glance at her. "I didn’t before, but I do now. Is that okay?"
Yvonne smiled and said, "Okay, you’re the most beautiful. Whatever you say is right."
They chatted and laughed, saying goodbyes at the door. After that, Janice and Christopher drove away.
On the way, Janice remembered what Yvonne had told her and said, "Chris, have you told James that Yvonne moved to the apartment by the lake?"
Christopher turned to look at her. "Am I such a gossipy person?"
Janice smiled. "Of course I know you’re not gossipy. But it’s hard to say your good friend James."
As soon as Janice finished her words, Christopher’s cell phone rang. He glanced at it, and it was a call from James, "Speak of him and he calls." He said.
Hearing it was James on the other end of the line, Janice quickly reminded him, "Don’t forget what I told you before."
Christopher frowned and then pressed the Bluetooth speaker in the car.
James’ voice suddenly sounded. "Chris, do me a favor."
"What?" Christopher asked.
"Ask your wife where her best friend has moved to." James said.
Hearing this, Christopher looked at Janice, seeing her mouth opened and closed as if she was saying something.
He said with a frown, "James, I can do nothing with this. It is better to ask her by yourself."
James became anxious when hearing this. "Chris, are we still good friends? Why don’t you help me?"
Christopher frowned and said, "James, we are brothers. But you still have to find a way to chase women. I’m driving, so I’ll hang up first."
After that, Christopher hung up the phone.
He looked at Janice who was sitting next to him. "How is it? Are you satisfied with the answer?"
"Thank you, Chris." Janice smiled.
However, on the other end of the line, James raised his eyebrows in anger after being hung up inexplicably.
"Chris is truly not loyal to me at all." He thought.
He told himself inwardly, <It doesn’t matter that you refuse to help me. I don’t believe that there’s nothing I can do.>
With that thought, he put away the phone.
Yvonne drove back to the apartment by the lake. After parking the car, she saw a young woman holding a dog in her arms as soon as she walked into the elevator.
Yvonne didn’t pay much attention to it at first, but the dog in her arms looked familiar. She asked, "I think I’ve seen your dog somewhere."
Hearing what she said, Sam looked at her and smiled. "You must be Miss Gladwell’s friend."
Yvonne was a little surprised. "You know about Janice?"
Sam nodded. "Yes, I help her to keep this dog."
Hearing this, Yvonne instantly understood. <So that’s how it is.>
She couldn’t help feeling closer to Sam.
Before getting out of the elevator, Sam said, "I live opposite you. If you need help, you can ring the doorbell."
Yvonne nodded and replied, "Okay."
She didn’t walk out until Sam left.
As soon as she returned to her room, she immediately threw down her bag and laid herself on the soft bed.
She hadn’t moved the other furniture here, but the bed had been replaced with a brand new one.
It was soft and very comfortable. She lay on it, thinking that the problem of her house had finally been solved, but she hadn’t found a good job yet.
She thought that she had to find a job as soon as possible, so she logged into the Internet and posted her resume to different jobs.
...
She didn’t expect to receive a call from the local hospital the next day.
"Is this Miss White on the line? We’re calling from the Tomaville Hospital. We’ve gone through your resume. Is it convenient for you to come over for the interview?" said the person from the other end of the line.
Hearing this, Yvonne was stunned for a while. She was pretty sure that she had not applied for the job at Tomaville Hospital.
"I think you’ve been mistaken. I didn’t submit my resume to your hospital," she replied.
"Miss White, you were recommended by our headhunting company."
Yvonne nodded in response. She had indeed asked a headhunting company for help beforehand.
In the early morning the next day, she went over to the hospital to have the interview.
"Hi, I’m here for the scheduled interview," she said, notifying them.
Yvonne held her resume as she arrived at the entrance of the evaluation room.
"Please come with me," a staff instructed while bringing her in.
Sitting in the room was a panel of three interviewers.
Yvonne felt a little nervous and she paused for a moment before walking in.
"Hello, my name is Yvonne..." She was introducing herself, but she was interrupted soon after.
"Yvonne?" A surprised male voice rang throughout the place.
She was dazed for a moment as she looked over. When she laid her eyes on the familiar face in front of her, she was taken aback. "Senior Levingston?"
Stanley seemed very satisfied that she could recognize him. He proceeded to introduce her to the two interviewers next to him, adding, "Yvonne was my junior back in our school days. She’s under the same mentor as I am. I can personally guarantee her professionalism."
Stanley was a physician expert hired by the hospital. Obviously, the other two interviewers would not dare to question those who earned his praise.
After the interview, Stanley had a chat with her for a while.
"Yvonne, why didn’t you attend the reunion a few days ago?" he asked.
"I... I was busy," she murmured unnaturally.
Stanley continued, "Really? I was quite disappointed that you didn’t come that day, though, I didn’t expect to meet you here today."
Yvonne was still shocked that Stanley could recognize her, and she could not hold back. "I didn’t expect that you would be able to remember me," she said.
He added, "Of course I would. You’re the student that my mentor values the most." "Wouldn’t that be you instead?" Yvonne asked.
"I’m talking about your session, but it’s such a pity. Why didn’t you further your studies so that you could apply for a spot in the hospital?" Stanley retorted.
Yvonne kept her mouth shut to this question. She had been brooding over this matter, that she had given up the opportunity to study abroad and the chance to be recruited by the hospital earlier.
"It’s all over, anyway. Enough about me, what about you? How have you been after all these years abroad?"
Stanley replied, "It’s been alright. I go back and forth between the laboratory and the dormitory all day, and I go shopping in Chinatown occasionally."
Once Yvonne heard the words that left his mouth, it struck her with a surprise. She thought to herself, <Seems like his life is mundane, too.>
"What about you? You’ve grown into such a beautiful lady. You must have a boyfriend, don’t you?" Stanley pressed on.
Yvonne blushed as she murmured, "Not yet."
"Are you serious?" Stanley was a little surprised, but he did not ask any further. He only added, "Neither do I."
This topic created a somewhat awkward atmosphere between the both of them.
Yvonne did not continue talking about this issue.
"By the way, what’s your number? You can save mine so it’ll be convenient for us to be in contact." Stanley suggested.
Yvonne was startled for a bit. She then whipped out her phone and added him as a friend online.
"Then, I’ll wait for you in the hospital when you come to work. You will be working here, right?" Stanley asked.
Yvonne did not say anything back to him. With all honesty, she had not made up her mind yet. "I’m not sure... " She trailed off.
"Yvonne, this medical center holds the most influence in Tomaville. I think this is a good opportunity for you. You shouldn’t miss it." Stanley persuaded her.
