Chapter 255: It’s Nice To Have Her By My Side
"Don’t get up. I’ll leave right away," Christopher said. Nathan stared at Christopher, knowing he had broken his son’s heart. He had been bed -bound for a few days and had reflected on the past. The more he thought about it, the guiltier he felt. He owed a lot to Christopher and his mother. Not until then had he discovered that he had caused so much harm to them unconsciously. Nathan said, "Son, I’m sorry for wrongly blaming you."
Christopher felt sad because it was too late to apologize now. When he denied it in the past, Nathan hadn’t believed him at all. If Sophie’s true colors hadn’t been exposed, he would never have believed his words. Christopher said, "You don’t need to say sorry to me, because I don’t care anymore. It is my mother that you should apologize to." Nathan closed his eyes, and he also knew he had wronged Wanda. But he was too proud to allow himself to apologize to her.
Christopher knew that his words were falling on stony ground. It seemed that his mother was right. It was not Sophie’s lies that had blinded Nathan. He had never trusted his mother from the beginning. "It seems that my mother’s decision was right," Christopher said. And then he turned and left. Nathan had wanted to stop him and had opened his mouth, but he gave up in the end. When Christopher returned to the Allson’s villa, Janice was taking a nap in the bedroom.
Wanda pulled him to a corner and asked in a low voice, "Did you go to your father’s house just now?" Christopher had no reason to hide it, so he nodded. Wanda asked, "What happened?" Christopher hesitated and said, "It’s Joey. He still can’t get over what happened, so Uncle Charlie asked me to go back to help persuade him."
Hearing this, Wanda nodded, but she still felt a little uneasy and asked, "That’s all?" Christopher nodded. He saw that his mother wanted to know more about the situation over there, so he paused and said, "And my father fell ill." "Is it serious?" Wanda asked subconsciously. Christopher caught something in her slightly worried voice, so he frowned, "It’s not very serious, but he still needs to stay in bed for about half a month." Wanda frowned.
Christopher asked, "Mom, do you still care about him?" Wanda stroked her hair unnaturally and said, "No! I’m just thinking the best time to discuss the divorce. Since he is sick now, I’ll wait for a while." Hearing his mother’s words, Christopher didn’t ask any more questions. He knew his mother still cared for his father. If she wanted to divorce him, she would have done it ten years ago.
However, he didn’t want to meddle in his parents’ marriage problem. He returned to his bedroom. Janice was sleeping soundly, and her breathing was even. Christopher walked over lightly, lay down beside her, and circled her in his arms from behind.
Janice’s body was fragrant and soft, and the scent of shampoo in her dark hair smelt so good that he was intoxicated.
He buried his nose in her hair, and his inner turmoil was instantly quelled. It was so nice to have her by his side. She was like a miniature sun, bringing warmth to his cold heart. Janice seemed to have felt his embrace, so she rolled over and buried her head into his arms. Christopher put his chin on her forehead, chuckled lightly, and closed his eyes at ease. The next day, Janice went to the workplace with Christopher in tow.
...
Janice was very uncomfortable because Christopher had been following behind her all the time, but she didn’t say anything. She knew that even if she asked him to leave, he wouldn’t change his mind, so she decided to just let him do whatever he wanted. Although she acquiesced in him joining her at work, she did not allow him to do her job for her. After all, words were the soul of an article, and she would never leave such important work to Christopher, a layman.
Christopher didn’t force it, and he was satisfied because Janice had allowed him to be there. As long as her work was not too excessive, it would be OK for him. In this way, he went through the first three days with Janice smoothly. Her colleagues felt quite strange at first. After all, none of them had ever seen anymore else come to work with a spouse. It was unheard of in most workplaces.
He was not only a well -known high- tech talent in the scientific and technological circle of Tomaville but also the son of the wealthiest family in town. Those kinds of people were known for being philanderers and playboys. But Christopher accompanied his wife every day all the time, taking care of her with the utmost attention.
When the fruit was scarcest, its taste was sweetest. Janice’s colleagues couldn’t help casting more glances at him. Christopher didn’t mind it. He wanted to show his affection for his wife openly because there was nothing for him to feel ashamed of. However, Janice didn’t think the same. She had originally wanted to go through the entire pregnancy in a low-key and peaceful manner, but because of Christopher, everyone was paying attention to her. How could she focus on work?
So, after thinking about it for two days, she decided to talk with Christopher. "You can come to my workplace, but can you stay away from me during work hours? I can’t focus with you around."
"How far do I need to stay away from you?" Christopher frowned.
Janice thought for a while and said, "Well, when I am working, can you stay in the reception room? I will call you when I need your help." Christopher originally wanted to say no, but Janice pre-empted him, saying, "You must agree, or I won’t let you accompany me any longer." Hearing her words, Christopher had to compromise. Between the office area and the reception room, there was just one wall, so it was not a problem for Christopher.
He asked his subordinates to knock down the wall overnight and replace it with a glass window so that he could see Janice’s actions while sitting in the reception room. Janice was aghast. But she had to let him do whatever he wanted, because he was a VIP guest for the magazine. Even her supervisor was amenable to his orders. Janice was helpless but gradually got used to it. In addition to accompanying her 24 hours a day, Christopher had also specially hired a nutritionist to assist Daisy with Janice’s daily diet.
There were meat and vegetables in every meal, and the nutrition levels were balanced. Her colleagues all drooled enviously at lunchtime every day. "Janice, what yummy food has your husband brought today?" Every time she heard such a question, she would hurriedly reply, "Nothing special. Just some home cooking."
She was too embarrassed to say that she had a personal pregnancy diet plan made by a professional nutritionist. At noon, when it was time for lunch, Christopher came in again with the lunch box.
...
Janice stopped him before he arrived at her desk. She said, "Let’s go to the reception room." With that, she pulled Christopher and hurriedly entered the room. Christopher thought she was acting weird but didn’t ask much. He opened the lunch box and said, "Look! Your favorite sweet and sour pork ribs."
He then put the food in front of her. Janice looked at it, wondering whether his clients would raise money for a hitman if they learned that he was doing nothing but caring for his wife every day. After all, he was a high- tech talent, and many people worshiped him in a way they did for few other tech entrepreneurs. Janice felt terrified even at the thought of it. However, this worry had just flitted across her mind, and she forgot about it soon.
"By the way, has James called you recently? Why haven’t he and Yvonne come back? Do you think he’s treated her badly? I should call her right away." Janice thought of this matter while eating. When she was about to put down her fork to make a call, Christopher stopped her, saying, "You have lunch first while it’s still hot. I’ll call James." Janice nodded.
Christopher stepped aside and dialed the number. The phone was picked up soon. "James, haven’t you and Miss White returned to Tomaville yet?" Christopher asked. At this time, James was standing in the yard of a nursing home. Right in front of him, Yvonne was giving free medical examinations to the elderly with medical equipment. "Have you felt any discomfort in your stomach recently? You have a digestion problem..."
Similar technical terms flooded into his ears, so James replied, "I do want to go back, but I can’t. And it is all your fault. If you hadn’t asked me to speed up, I would not have been sentenced to one week’s community service." Christopher on the other end of the phone frowned when hearing this and said, "It is you that went with the police officer voluntarily."
James’s lie had been exposed, so he was a little embarrassed. He looked in the direction of Yvonne and said, "I don’t want to talk nonsense with you anymore. I have to do my work now." He hung up the phone and quickly returned to Yvonne’s side. By the time the community service work was over, it was 6 p.m..
Yvonne was packing her equipment, feeling very tired. But she suddenly found James was idling there as if there was nothing to do, so she couldn’t help but glare at him, saying, "We came here because you were sentenced to community service. Why are you standing there idly? Come and help me!"
James hurried over and gave a flattering smile, "It’s because you are too competent." Yvonne rolled her eyes, not wanting to speak with him. James quickly took a bottle of water and handed it to her. "Here you are. Drink some water. You must be thirsty."
Yvonne was indeed a little thirsty, so she gratefully took it. He had unscrewed the cap for her, and she thought he was kind of considerate. When she was drinking water, James saw the sweat on her forehead, so he quickly found a fan and waved it to cool her off. After Yvonne drank the water, she found that his forehead was covered with sweat, and a strange feeling took root in her heart. She said, "I’m Okay. Fan yourself first."
James replied casually, "I’m not feeling hot." He wiped the sweat off with his clothes. Yvonne looked at him without saying a word. After they packed their things, they left the nursing home. This was the last day of the community service.
Originally, they had planned to return to Tomaville today, but they hadn’t expected there to be so many elderly people present. They didn’t have a chance to rest until now, so they decided to go back to the hotel and stay for one more night.
