Chapter 175: The Person Behind The Scenes Must Be Found

Christopher approached her step by step.

"Didn’t you want to know what I promised Grandpa?"

Janice nodded.

"Then... I’ll tell you now."

Christopher took a big step forward as he spoke and pressed her against the wall.

She leaned against the wall. Christopher stood in front of her with one hand against the wall.

He slowly moved his face to her ear and nibbled on her ears lightly. "I promised Grandpa that I’ll try my best to make a baby."

He emphasized the word "make".

Janice’s face reddened instantly.

"Well, let’s start making one now."

Christopher stared at her as he whispered, kissing her on her lips.

Passions flared.

When it was over, Janice lay in Christopher’s arms and poked his chest with her finger. "Do you think I will get pregnant from that?"

Christopher looked down at her and smiled.

"If not, we’ll try our best again."

As he spoke, he pressed forward once more.

When Janice saw that, she hurriedly asked, "What are you doing?"

Christopher said, "Let’s continue."

Janice was stunned for a moment before understanding the meaning behind his words.

"But..."

She wanted to say, ’Didn’t they just finish?’

However, before she could say so, Christopher placed his lips over hers.

After much exertion...

Janice fell asleep from exhaustion.

Christopher stared at her sleeping face and chuckled. Just as he was about to lie

down, his phone suddenly rang.

He was afraid of waking Janice up, so he quickly picked it up.

"Mr. Bateman, the group of people who controlled the reporters ran away. But don’t worry, I’ve ordered them to continue searching."

Rob’s voice came from the phone.

Christopher frowned and ordered, "You must find the person behind this."

"Yes, Sir."

Christopher hung up and narrowed his eyes dangerously. "Who would be so bold as to provoke me like this?"

After learning that Lucy had been rescued, Sophie felt rather uneasy. She was afraid that someone would find out that she was the mastermind behind all that.

However, when she thought about it, she realized that she had not been involved directly, but had done everything through a middleman. As long as that individual was not found, they would not be able to trace anything back to her.

She felt much calmer when she thought of that.

At that moment, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and hesitated for a moment before picking it up with impatience.

"What’s the matter?"

"Sophie, when are you going back to Switzerland?"

A gentle male voice came from the other end of the line.

Sophie replied impatiently, "How many times have I told you this already? I’ll go back when I want to. Stop calling me."

The man on the other end of the line fell silent for a moment before saying, "Sophie, don’t be angry. That’s not what I mean, it’s just... Anna misses you."

This annoyed Sophie even more. "She’s so young, does she even know what missing someone is? Don’t use her as an excuse, I’ll hang up if there’s nothing else."

With that, she hung up the phone.

However, she felt more and more irritated as she thought of the things that were troubling her recently.

"Nothing is going smoothly these days."

Sophie flung the phone away in annoyance and stood up to walk away.

By the time Janice awoke, it was already night.

She opened her eyes and found that the room was very dim. The only light source came from the table lamp next to her.

Christopher was not by her side. She frowned and sat up to check the time, only to find that it was already past eight o’clock in the evening.

So, how many hours had she slept for?

Janice felt a little drowsy. She put on her clothes, got out of bed, washed up, and went downstairs.

Something smelt good.

...

It was obviously Christopher’s handiwork.

Thinking of this, she followed the scent and saw Christopher’s busy figure in the kitchen.

She smiled brightly, walked over quietly, and reached out to cover his eyes. "Guess who?"

"A greedy cat." Said Christopher.

"You’re mean." Janice glared at him before letting go and hugged him from behind. "Why didn’t you wake me up?"

"I didn’t want to disturb you since you were sleeping so soundly."

"But it’s so late now. We haven’t visited your grandpa yet."

Hearing this, Christopher turned around, looked at her, "I’ve been to visit Grandpa, don’t worry."

After saying that, he turned around and went to stir the food in the pan.

Janice nodded and took a closer look at the pot.

"What did you cook?"

"Something good for your health." He looked at her meaningfully.

Janice instantly understood and flushed.

The two of them sat at the dining table and Christopher served her a large bowl of soup.

Janice looked at the piping hot soup in the bowl. She remembered the soup that Sophie had brought for Old Mr. Allson and paused before asking, "What soup is good for Grandpa?"

Christopher paused for a moment when he heard her question.

"Why are you asking this?"

Rolling her eyes, Janice replied, "Oh, I just want to make soup for Grandpa." As she spoke, she lowered her head and scooped up a spoonful of hot soup. Christopher stared at her.

"Well, how about this? I’ll make it some other day. You can bring it to him." "No, I have to make it myself." Janice refused.

Christopher put down his cutlery and looked at her. "Is it because of Sophie?"

"How did you know?" Janice was stunned.

Christopher frowned.

"Grandpa told me that she had been to the hospital before."

Janice nodded at that.

She admitted that part of the reason was because of Sophie.

She didn’t want to be outshined by her, or it would make it look like she didn’t know how to do anything.

She lowered her head and Christopher saw through her thoughts. He reached out to hold her hand and said, "You don’t have to compare yourself to her, and Grandpa won’t compare her with you either. You just need to be yourself, understand?"

Janice knew that Christopher was comforting her. She said, "Actually, it’s not all because of her. I just want to do something for Grandpa."

She did not like the feeling of being unable to help.

Christopher’s eyes lingered on her face for a few seconds, and then he nodded. "If you really want to, I can teach you."

Hearing this, Janice looked at him. "You better keep your word."

"Of course."

Only then did Janice relax and eat happily.

The next day, Janice took Christopher to the supermarket early in the morning.

She wanted to make some soup for Old Mr. Allson.

"What ingredients do you want to buy?"

The two of them pushed the trolley to the food area.

Christopher glanced at the table with ingredients and picked up a box of well-packaged duck meat.

"Let’s get this, I’ll teach you how to make duck soup."

"Okay."

Janice had no objections. She followed behind Christopher and watched him carefully pick out ingredients.

When they got home, Christopher took out the ingredients and was about to prepare them when Janice hurriedly stopped him. "Don’t move. Your task today is to stand here and command me. Don’t do anything."

With that, she pushed Christopher to the door.

...

Christopher nodded helplessly. "Okay, I’ll instruct you and you do it."

Only then did Janice take out the ingredients from the shopping bags one by one and put them on the table. She looked at Christopher and said, "Chef, please give me your instructions."

She looked like she was ready for anything.

Christopher glanced at the pile of ingredients and said, "Take out the ingredients and wash them."

Upon receiving the order, Janice immediately did as she was told.

Christopher stood at the door and looked at her serious expression. He couldn’t help but chuckle.

Janice quickly finished making the soup. She scooped up a spoonful for Christopher to try.

"How is it?"

She asked nervously.

After all, this was her first time making soup.

Christopher frowned. "It’s a little salty."

Janice was at a loss. "Huh? What should we do then?"

Christopher said, "Don’t worry."

He walked over and put a bit of rock sugar into the pot before stirring it with a spoon and trying it.

"That’s better."

Janice heaved a sigh of relief when she heard that. "Then I’ll send it to Grandpa right now."

She scooped the soup into a thermos as she spoke.

She couldn’t wait to see Grandpa’s expression when he sees the soup.

"Well, go ahead, I still have to go to the office," Christopher said after eyeing the soup.

Janice nodded and took the soup to the hospital alone.

When she entered the ward, Old Mr. Allson was criticizing Nanny Daisy’s cooking.

When she saw that, Janice asked Nanny Daisy to rest and took care of Old Mr. Allson herself.

After Nanny Daisy left, Janice scooped out a bowl of soup and handed it over to Old

Mr. Allson.

"Grandpa, do you want to try the soup I made?"

Hearing this, Old Mr. Allson smiled. "You even know how to make soup."

Janice felt a little embarrassed. "I just learned it."

Old Mr. Allson took the bowl and peered inside. "Let me have a taste then."

As he spoke, he scooped up a spoonful and placed it in his mouth.

Janice watched from the side, feeling very nervous. Although Christopher had taught her how to make it, this was still her first time making soup, so she was not very confident.

She stared at Old Mr. Allson as he drank the soup. "How is it? Is it to your liking?" she asked hurriedly.

Old Mr. Allson nodded with satisfaction and praised, "It’s good."

Hearing Old Mr. Allson’s praise, Janice felt a little excited.

"Really? Grandpa, please drink more."

Old Mr. Allson nodded and drank the entire bowl of soup.

After that, he returned the soup bowl to Janice, wiped his mouth and said, "You guys should come to the hospital less often. Nanny Daisy will take care of me."

Putting the bowl back, Janice replied, "Grandpa, I’m free now. I’ve taken a long leave from the TV station."

Old Mr. Allson said, "You still shouldn’t come to the hospital so often. How can a young person stay in the hospital all day? Besides, it would be bad for the fetus."

"Grandpa, I’m not pregnant yet." Janice bit her lip and said. She was a little embarrassed.

Old Mr. Allson replied, "That’s just a matter of time. You and Chris should work hard when you have time. Don’t come here all the time."

Old Mr. Allson’s bluntness embarrassed Janice, so she could only nod in agreement.

Then, Old Mr. Allson drove her out of the ward.

She had no choice but to go to the TV station to cancel her leave.

However, she had already handed over her work to her colleagues.

Even if she cancels her leave, she would just be sitting there and doing nothing.

As such, she could only look for things to do.

She finally managed to get a job from Lucy to pick someone up from the airport.

Janice drove to the airport. On the way, she received a call from Christopher.
