Chapter 171: Is Janice Pregnant?

Christopher felt that something was wrong. He glanced at Old Mr. Allson who was sleeping peacefully on the hospital bed. He got up quietly and walked out of the door.

He closed the door and took out his phone to call Janice.

However, all he heard was the busy tone. No one picked up.

That was strange.

It’s already so late. Was she still busy?

However, Janice’s job had always been so hectic, so he didn’t think much of it and pushed the door open.

He found that Old Mr. Allson was awake.

"Grandpa, you’re awake."

Old Mr. Allson looked around. "What time is it now?"

Christopher replied, "It’s midnight."

Old Mr. Allson lowered his gaze and stood up. "Let’s go home."

He sounded like he was giving an order and not willing to discuss the matter with Christopher.

Christopher frowned.

"Grandpa, what’s the matter?"

Old Mr. Allson said, "I’m fine. It’s too gloomy here, and it’s uncomfortable to stay here."

After saying that, he lifted the blanket made to get out of bed.

Christopher had no choice but to step forward to stop him.

"Grandpa, what do you want me to say?"

"What are you talking about? Hurry up and let’s go home."

Old Mr. Allson refused to back down.

Christopher knew his grandfather’s temper. Even if he could stop him this time, there would be a next time.

When he thought of that, he said unhurriedly, "Grandpa, didn’t you say that you wanted to have a great-grandson?"

Hearing this, Old Mr. Allson stopped and asked, "What? Is Janice pregnant?"

Christopher frowned. "No."

Old Mr. Allson’s face fell instantly. He snorted and said, "Then why did you bring it up?"

"She might not be pregnant now, but she could be in the future."

Christopher said.

However, Old Mr. Allson was not interested at all. He said, "What’s the use of her having babies in the future. I won’t be around to see it."

"That’s not necessarily true. If you are willing to undergo the treatment, you will definitely be alive to see them."

As expected, old Mr. Allson seemed to be moved by his words.

Christopher took the opportunity to continue, "If you are willing to cooperate, I promise you will have a great-grandson this time next year."

Old Mr. Allson fell into deep thought.

"Really?"

"Really." Christopher nodded.

Old Mr. Allson mulled over the thought for a moment.

"Alright then, I’ll stay, but forget about chemotherapy. I am old and don’t want to suffer anymore. I just want to go to see your grandma peacefully."

Of course, Christopher knew this. He didn’t want to see his grandfather suffer like this either.

"Don’t worry, I won’t force you to undergo chemotherapy as long as you are willing to listen to and cooperate with the doctors for conservative treatment."

Hearing his grandson’s promise, Old Mr. Allson was relieved. He turned around and went back to bed.

Seeing this, Christopher finally heaved a sigh of relief. He walked up to Old Mr.

Allson and tucked him in.

"By the way, where’s Janice?"

Old Mr. Allson suddenly thought of her.

Christopher replied, "She’s still busy at work."

"Then what are you doing here?"

Seeing the confused look in Old Mr. Allson’s eyes, Christopher frowned.

"I’m here to keep you company."

"What’s there to accompany?" Old Mr. Allson snorted derisively. "It’s so late now. Aren’t you worried letting your wife work alone? Go home and join your wife."

"But..."

"But what? There are nurses and doctors here. If you’re still worried, get Nanny Daisy to come over. Anyway, it’s pointless for you to stay here."

Christopher was a little speechless. It seemed that his grandfather truly wanted him gone.

"Alright, I’ll leave when Nanny Daisy comes over." He replied helplessly.

...

Who would have thought that Old Mr. Allson would be more anxious than he was? He got out of bed and hurried Christian away.

"What are you waiting for? Go on."

"Look at you," Old Mr. Allson grumbled as he pushed Christian out of the room "How can you expect me to have a great-grandson next year when you’re like this? Go on, don’t even think of coming for the next few days."

In other words, he was telling Christopher to go home and make babies.

Just like that, Christopher was thrown out of the ward by his grandfather.

He was a little dejected and shook his head helplessly. He turned around and walked out while calling Janice, but all he got was a dial tone.

"That’s strange. Why can’t I get through?"

It seemed that he could only go straight to the TV station to find her.

When he thought of that, he put away his phone, found his car in the parking lot, got in, and drove away.

When he arrived at the TV station, he found that it was dark and the doors were locked. He couldn’t get in at all.

Christopher stood at the door and frowned. Did Janice go home already?

And so, he drove home.

However, there was still no sign of Janice there either.

Christopher felt that something was wrong. He thought of Janice’s call during the day.

Did something happen to her?

His phone just rang as he mulled over that.

It was an unknown number. He hesitated for a moment before picking it up.

"You’re Janice’s husband, aren’t you?"

A woman’s voice came from the other end of the line. She sounded rather pushy.

Christopher nodded.

"Yes, you are..."

"I’m Yvonne White. Do you know that Janice is currently being detained in the police station?"

"Detained?" Christopher was stunned.

Yvonne sneered when she heard the surprise in Christopher’s voice. She said, "Don’t you know? Aren’t you supposed to be her husband? You didn’t even know that your wife was arrested."

When Yvonne returned home, the more she thought about it, the angrier she became. What could be more important than his wife? She couldn’t help but ask James for Christopher’s number. However, before she could finish speaking, she heard a beep from the other end of the line.

Yvonne frowned as she stared at the phone. Why had he hung up? "I hope you’ve gone to find Janice. Otherwise, you’ll be in for it." Yvonne muttered to herself.

Christopher hung up and got out of the car in a hurry. He called Rob while starting the car. "Go and find out which police station Janice is at now."

"Yes."

He drove away right after hanging up.

No wonder he couldn’t find Janice. She had been held at a detention center.

Christopher Bateman’s wife had been detained. Who had the guts to do that?

The more Christopher thought about it, the more livid he became. He pushed down on the accelerator and pushed his car to the limit.

Not long later, Rob sent him the location of the police station, and he immediately drove over.

In the detention center.

Janice lay on the bed, unable to fall asleep.

It was hot and stuffy in here, and there were a lot of mosquitoes. She had been bitten several times already, so she gave up on sleeping.

Anyway, she couldn’t fall asleep.

She got out of bed, walked to the window, and looked outside.

There was no moon tonight, and the sky was unusually dark. Nothing could be seen at all.

She wondered how Mr. Allson was doing.

Since her phone was not with her, she could not call to inquire ask how he was doing.

Also, if she did not return all night, would Christopher be worried?

When she thought of that, she regretted not telling Christopher about what had happened.

Wouldn’t he have to search everywhere if he could not get in touch with her?

If that was the case, wouldn’t she cause him trouble instead?

"No, I can’t make trouble for him at this time."

Thinking of this, she quickly turned around and walked toward the door.

...

"Is anyone there? I want to make a phone call."

She shouted at the door.

However, the iron door was locked, and no one responded to her no matter how hard she shouted.

The more Janice thought about it, the more anxious she became. She could even imagine how Christopher was looking for her everywhere.

"Officer, I want to make a call. Is anyone there? I want to make a call."

"What’s the fuss? It’s so late."

Finally, someone came over.

When Janice saw him, she immediately said, "Officer, I want to make a call. Please give me your phone. I want to call my husband."

"It’s too late. Call him tomorrow," said the police officer impatiently. "No, my husband will feel worried if he can’t find me. Please." "How troublesome. Hold on."

The police officer turned and walked to the door, but as soon as he turned around, a figure rushed in.

"Who are you?"

Before he could finish her sentence, the man had already walked to the door.

Seeing this, the police officer made to step forward to stop the man but was stopped by their superior.

"Let him pass."

The police officer could only step aside.

Seeing that the police officer had agreed to let her make the call, Janice heaved a sigh of relief. She would call Christopher immediately once she gets a phone and tell him that she was at the detention center.

Just as she was planning what to do, she heard the sound of the door being unlocked.

She thought that it was the police officer returning, so she quickly went up to him. However, as soon as she arrived at the door, she bumped into the person who came in.

When she saw Christopher’s face, she couldn’t help but be stunned.

"What are you doing here?"

Christopher’s expression was cold. His eyes swept over her somewhat embarrassed face, and he narrowed his eyes.

"Why didn’t you tell me?"

"I..." For a moment, Janice did not know how to answer. While she was thinking about what to say, Christopher reached out and grabbed her arm.

"Come out with me first."

As he spoke, he pulled her out of the room.

Janice followed him out, but when she saw the situation outside the door, she couldn’t help but be stunned.

There were more than a dozen people standing outside the door, some in police uniforms and some in business suits and leather shoes, filling the already narrow passage.

Everyone stepped forward when they saw Christopher.

"Mr. Bateman, I’m really sorry."

Christopher ignored the man and continued forward, holding Janice’s hand.

Janice followed Christopher and walked past the crowd. She could even clearly see the sweat on the foreheads of those people. However, the corridor was really cold.

"Mr. Zhang, give me your opinion."

Christopher asked after arriving at the hall outside.

Upon hearing this, a man wearing a suit immediately stepped forward and said, "Mr. Bateman, we just saw the surveillance footage of the scene that the police reported. Although that place is a blind spot, we can see you and Mrs. Bateman together in other footage as well as the figures of the two men leaving in a hurry. This matches Mrs. Bateman’s description."

"At present, the biggest issue is Mrs. Bateman conducting her own investigation. We need to contact Ms. White, the reporter who was with Mrs. Bateman. According to the TV station, the reporter could not be contacted after arriving at the neighboring city. We still haven’t found her yet."

Upon hearing that, Christopher narrowed his eyes and instructed Rob, "Send someone to the neighboring city immediately. You must bring her back."

"Yes."

Rob left to make arrangements.

After that, Christopher dragged Janice out of the station.

Just then, they heard someone yelling from behind.

"Stop. Who said you can take her away?"
