Chapter 264: Chapter 263: The Sibling Dispute (2)
Their family had no shortage of silver.
Hu Yuwan said nothing. She simply dipped her finger in tea and wrote a few words on the table for Hu Tuchao to see.
Hu Tuchao’s brow furrowed almost instantly. He stared at Hu Yuwan in disbelief. "What are you trying to do?"
Hu Yuwan pursed her lips. She was naturally filled with trepidation. Even though certain things had not been spoken aloud, the fact that she was already involved was enough to make her heart pound in terror.
But over the years, she had grown accustomed to hiding her emotions, especially from her family.
"We’re not doing anything. Can’t you figure it out?" Hu Yuwan said.
How could Hu Tuchao possibly sit still? He was on the verge of exploding. He shot up from his seat and paced back and forth around the private room.
"I can’t make a decision on this just like that." It was too sudden, too rushed. His mind hadn’t even had time to process it.
Hu Yuwan chuckled lightly, seemingly thinking her brother wasn’t so composed after all. "Suit yourself," she said. "But let me offer a piece of advice. Now that you know about this, if you choose not to help, remember that you can’t sever the blood ties between us. And when the time comes..." Hu Yuwan trailed off, confident that Hu Tuchao would understand her unspoken threat perfectly.
"Oh, and I’m sure my dear brother is in complete control of the family business now. So for a small matter like taking out a little silver, it’s best not to let anyone else know," Hu Yuwan said.
She hadn’t actually come to eat today. Having said her piece, she also rose from her seat.
’She didn’t want to stay in Ming Lingyi’s territory for a second longer!’
After Hu Yuwan left, Hu Tuchao sat alone in the private room, his appetite suddenly gone.
Not that he had much of one to begin with.
But Hu Yuwan’s visit had certainly killed what little remained.
The two of them had barely spoken in the private room. Certain topics weren’t meant for such a place. But even though Hu Yuwan hadn’t revealed much, Hu Tuchao wasn’t a complete fool with a head full of mush; he could tell something was afoot.
Ming Lingyi hadn’t paid much attention to the quiet private room. She was dining on the rooftop with Feng Shuyu when, with a casual glance downward, Feng Shuyu spotted someone before Ming Lingyi could even make out who it was.
"Hu Yuwan is here to show her support for your restaurant?"
Feng Shuyu blurted out the moment she saw Hu Yuwan’s figure, her tone thick with suspicion.
It wasn’t that she was being petty, but Hu Yuwan had done so many despicable things in the past that it was hard not to be suspicious upon seeing her.
Ming Lingyi shook her head. "I doubt it."
’First, I had her sister-in-law thrown in jail, and then I had Hu Yuwan herself hauled into Jingzhao Mansion, completely humiliating her. Would she really be kind enough to come and show her support?’
’Besides, based on what I know of Qin Shiqi, Hu Yuwan should be "reflecting on her misdeeds behind closed doors" right about now.’
"Someone!" Ming Lingyi called out. "Go and see what’s going on."
’If Feng Shuyu didn’t trust Hu Yuwan, how could she?’
’Today was a big day for the restaurant. Ming Lingyi had no intention of letting some random person’s bizarre antics ruin her grand opening.’
While they waited for her people to gather information, Feng Shuyu pinched the bridge of her nose. "Some people really know how to ruin an appetite. A minute ago, I felt like I could eat a horse."
Ming Lingyi wasn’t as bothered, but she burst out laughing at Feng Shuyu’s comment.
"It’s probably nothing serious. Don’t worry too much," she said.
Feng Shuyu remained unconvinced. She had suffered greatly at Hu Yuwan’s hands back when she was with the Hu family. When she was in the thick of it, she couldn’t see things clearly. Only after escaping that swamp did she realize that some people are swamps personified—get too close, and you’re bound to sink into misery.
The attendant soon returned with information.
"Young Madam Qin came to the restaurant looking for Boss Hu. They stayed in the private room for about the time it takes to drink a cup of tea before she left. The attendant waiting outside said it was very quiet, and they didn’t hear a thing. Even when they brought the dishes in, the two inside barely spoke. The atmosphere was rather tense."
After the attendant withdrew, Ming Lingyi turned to Feng Shuyu. "A quarrel between brother and sister?" If that was the case, she had no interest.
