Chapter 2925 - The Bodhi Leaf
When Su Yi and Lin Xun began their grand battle, the Fangchun Mountain disciples scattered throughout different parts of the sect sensed it immediately.
“What startling sword qi!”
“It’s causing an even greater disturbance than Senior Su’s battle with Eldest Senior Brother.”
“What level of cultivation do you think Little Junior Brother is using?”
“The Silent Realm! I’m sure of it!”
“That’s right! Don’t forget that he, too, is a true anomaly!”
Discussion arose on all sides.
Su Yi and Lin Xun fought on a mountaintop, but they nevertheless caused an extraordinarily shocking disturbance.
No matter where in the sect they watched the battle from, everyone saw the sword qi flying beneath the dome of heaven and the windstorm of destructive power. From time to time, strange phenomena of the Grand Dao arose. Just watching was enough to make the onlookers’ hearts quiver with fright.
Ling Xuanzi was the closest to the action, but he dared not draw any closer. Even just the aftermath of their battle was far too shocking. It could easily burn mountains, boil seas, and destroy both heaven and earth.
About ten minutes later, all of the commotion died down, but no one could tell who’d won.
Seven days later, yet another grand battle broke out. This time, Su Yi and Lin Xun caused an even greater commotion.
The disciples dispersed throughout different parts of Fangchun Mountain were startled and uncertain. They tried to circulate the full extent of their cultivation bases and sense the battle more closely, but much to their astonishment, an invisible power had sealed off the entire area. None of them could sense a thing.
“Little Junior Brother sure is stingy. It’s just a spar. Why not let us broaden our horizons?” someone grumbled.
But then, the Combat Emperor’s voice rang out in a clear, solemn rebuke. “This battle involves Senior Su’s foundations in the Grand Dao. How could they reveal it lightly?”
The clamor of voices instantly died down. No one dared complain or make idle comments any longer.
The second battle lasted a full hour before finally drawing to a close.
But against all expectations, just ten days later, Su Yi and Lin Xun fought a third round!
This battle was over in the time it took to brew a cup of tea.
No one knew the result of this match, either.
Ling Xuanzi was itching for answers. It was unbearable! But every time he tried to draw closer, invisible power blocked his path.
There was nothing he could do except gnash his teeth in fury.
......
Su Yi stood on the mountaintop, wiped the blood from his lips, and said, “Can you still fight?”
His voice was tinged with unwillingness.
Lin Xun stood across from him. His face was swollen, and his hair was disheveled, but he was smiling radiantly. “We’ve already fought three times. I can’t fight anymore!”
Both combatants fought with Silent Realm cultivation bases.
Su Yi lost the first battle, but won the second, while the third ended in a tie.
But Su Yi was unwilling to let things end here. The way he saw it, if they fought a fourth time, he’d win for sure!
Alas, Lin Xun refused to keep fighting.
“We fought in the Silent Realm with no clear winner. I’m happy with that result,” Lin Xun said with a laugh. “I don’t know whether I’ll be a match for you in the future or not, but that no longer matters.”
Su Yi forcefully resisted the urge to punch him. “You really won’t fight me again?”
Lin Xun shook his head determinedly. It wasn’t a question of whether or not he wanted to fight; if he tried, his avatar wouldn’t be able to take it.
Su Yi was unwilling to accept this, but he had no choice but to accept a draw. Like it or not, he had to accept that Demon God Lin was terrifying. He, too, was a true anomaly. You couldn’t judge him by common sense, either.
Even his avatar was this terrifying, so how terrifying must his true body’s cultivation base have been?
“Daoist Brother, I’ve hidden everything I learned here in Fangchun Mountain’s ancestral grounds. If we meet again, please correct my mistakes and offer me your guidance!” Lin Xun smiled and clasped his fists, then led Su Yi away from the mountaintop.
“Who won, Little Junior Brother?” Ling Xuanzi asked frantically as soon as they emerged.
Lin Xun laughed. “It was a tie. We were evenly matched.”
Ling Xuanzi gaped at him. A tie!?
But before he could ask any further questions, Lin Xun ordered, “Fourth Senior Brother, gather the rest of our apprentice siblings. Let’s take a trip to Fangchun Palace together.”
“Very well.” Ling Xuanzi agreed without hesitation.
Of all of his apprentice siblings, he feared his Eldest Senior Brother most, but he was most obedient to his Little Junior Brother.
“Daoist Brother, if you encounter my youngest daughter, Jinghong, please look out for her,” said Lin Xun, his eyes softening and his gaze suddenly doting. “She’s been pampered from a young age and knows nothing of hardship. Worse, she’s always had countless seniors spoiling her rotten. Now she isn’t afraid of anything at all, and she’s highly prone to causing trouble.”
Lin Xun now seemed like any other father discussing a disobedient child, doting yet exasperated.
Su Yi nodded.
“Come on, let’s go to Fangchun Hall together,” said Lin Xun, leading the way.
Twenty-nine disciples of Fangchun Mountain soon joined them in a grand, ancient building. The name “Fangchun Hall” hung over the entryway.
Grandmaster Bodhi had written the sign personally.
Su Yi stood before the entryway. The other Fangchun Mountain disciples stood behind Lin Xun, the Combat Emperor, and Zhong Qiu.
“We’ll meet again, Daoist Brother!” Lin Xun clasped his fist, and the others soon followed suit.
Su Yi scanned their now-familiar faces and thought back to his recent battles. Waves of emotions coursed through his heart as he clasped his fist and solemnly returned the gesture. “We’ll meet again!”
Lin Xun and the others exchanged glances, then smiled. Then, all of them blurred into beams of light and shot into the sign over the entryway.
Boom!
Heaven and earth shook. Countless beams of light shot forth, dissipating all of the mist enveloping the entire ancestral grounds. Its scenery then came into view in full detail.
Now, when Su Yi looked around, he saw a vast, mountainous landscape, like an ancient, primordial, blessed ground for cultivation.
When Lin Xun and the other disciples’ avatars fused fully into the sign, the name Fangchun flew off the board, transformed into a verdant bodhi leaf, and landed in Su Yi’s palm.
On their way here, Lin Xun told Su Yi that the leaf was the key to controlling the ancestral grounds of Fangchun Mountain. It was effectively a key; once Su Yi refined it, he could control everything here at will.
But the leaf couldn’t take shape without Lin Xun and the others’ avatars. That meant that without their approval, it wouldn’t matter who showed up; they could forget about laying a finger on Fangchun Mountain’s legacies and treasures.
Su Yi gripped the leaf, then looked around. Everything was deserted on all sides; there was no longer a single soul in sight. Lin Xun, the Combat Emperor, Ling Xuanzi, Chi Jun, and Zhong Qiu... had all vanished at once, leaving Su Yi all alone. It was quite a melancholy feeling.
After a while, Su Yi looked down at his palm and exerted his will. The bodhi leaf silently melted into his hand.
A moment later, all of Fangchun Mountain’s ancestral grounds appeared in Su Yi’s heart in full detail, from the hidden realms secreted away in the mountains and rivers down to each individual blade of grass.
That included the sect’s formations and arrangements, as well as the form and function of all its buildings.
If Fangchun Mountain’s ancestral grounds were a world, then Su Yi was now its ruler. Everything here was now under his control.
Su Yi calmly sensed his surroundings for a moment, then took a step forward. A moment later, he appeared in front of a pavilion.
This was the scripture repository.
When Su Yi arrived, he saw that the repository was a world in its own right, piled high with mountains of jade slips. There was an enormous number of them roughly divided by category.
It was a true sea of texts.
As chaotic as it looked, upon closer inspection, they were organized by type. There was an underlying logic to the apparent mess.
Every tome and scripture had a unique seal. Only those of sufficient strength could learn the secrets therein.
After all, the Dao was not to be transmitted lightly. If those unqualified to learn these secrets tried to read these texts, they’d only invite disaster upon themselves.
But Su Yi was now the master of Fangchun Mountain's ancestral grounds, so this naturally posed no problem for him.
Before long, he found some of the legacies created by the disciples of Fangchun Mountain, like the Sacred Combat Art, the Momentary Dao-Slashing Sword, the Grand Dao Yellow Court Classic, the Vast Mighty Scripture, the Green Lotus Grotto Art, and the True Explanation of Origin.
Each was a supreme legacy. In the outside world, even Heavenly Monarch factions would have gone mad over them. No, even Heavenly Sovereign factions would have slavered at the mouth.
Yet now, all of these legacies lay quietly before Su Yi for him to peruse as he pleased.
Moreover, the repository contained far more than just the disciples’ self-created legacies. There was also an abundance of other texts from all schools of thought, including Buddhist scriptures, Daoist canons, Confucian classics, and Demonist secret magics.
This confirmed what Ruo Su had told him earlier. Fangchun Mountain’s ancestral grounds really were a treasure trove of knowledge. Anyone who saw it would find themselves captivated.
At the very least, Su Yi certainly couldn’t bring himself to leave. Instead, he picked up a tome, sat cross-legged, and started reading.
Time slipped by. Soon, he’d forgotten himself completely.
Ten years passed in a flash. Su Yi spent the entire time immersed in a sea of books, studying all manner of legacies.
He was reading the Zhukong Sword Sutra when something suddenly shifted in his heart.
Fangchun Mountain’s scripture repository contained no small number of secret methods for tempering the heart, like the Great Genesis Heart Sutra.
The Zhukong Sword Sutra, the text he was currently reading, actually contained a legacy of the Dao of the Sword connected to secret heart power!
The sword sutra was divided into three sections: the Way of Drawing the Sword, the Way of Controlling the Sword, and the Way of the Sword Heart.
“Drawing the Sword” was all about instantaneous attacks in which life and death were determined in an instant. This section of the sutra contained three moves: Three Inches of Eternal Silence, Six Inches of Eternal Death, and Nine Inches of Eternal Destruction.
“Controlling the Sword” was about directing one’s weapon from afar, heedless of the distance. It, too, was divided into three moves: Great Beauty Without Words, Great Ingenuity Without Craftsmanship, and Great Presence Without Form.
“The Way of the Sword Heart” centered around a Dao Heart like a sword, and a sword in line with its wielder’s heart. Under one sword, all worldly affairs become nothing!
In truth, the entire sword sutra focused on applications of secret heart power. It fused the momentum and killing power of the Dao of the Sword into the secret heart power, letting one catch enemies off guard and kill them instantly!
Su Yi was a sword cultivator. He naturally understood this sword sutra’s value at a glance.
He felt as if he’d pierced the thin layer of paper covering the window, letting him see the light. He finally understood the true applications of the secret power of the heart!
