Chapter 469: I will always believe you.

Leilani.

"For how long do you intend to pretend to have fainted?" I asked coldly, ignoring the way my voice echoed through the quiet space like something out of a horror movie.

My eyes snagged on her pale face and then down to her lips which for some reason had begun to turn into a weird shade of purple, and then I rolled my eyes.

"You’re pretending to be unconscious? You want to pity your way out of this as if you’re not satisfied with everything else that you did?" I sneered.

But still, nothing.

"How did you feel after you killed Jarek? You said that no one else could have him if not you, and you got that. So tell me, how did you feel?" I rushed out, and strangely, the more I talked, the angrier I became; and the fact that she was deciding not to respond made me even angrier.

In annoyance, I marched over to the metal bars separating us, grabbed onto the cold railings and yelled; "open your damn eyes, Keisha!"

She didn’t respond. She didn’t even move.

And goddess, for a weird reason, that made my heart skip a beat.

I froze only for a second before my hands slowly left the bars and I took a step back to take a good look at her.

There was nothing strange. Nothing out of place.

So I cleared my throat and muttered; "This is not funny, Keisha. Open your eyes. Talk to me. I have always wanted to know these things so do not leave me hanging!"

My eyebrows shot into my hairline when my eyes travelled from her face to her chest, and upon realizing that she was no longer breathing— that her chest wasn’t rising and falling no matter how hard I stared or yelled at her— I stumbled backwards and screamed.

The shout tore out from the back of my throat, catching the attention of some of the watch guards parading around the dungeon and before you know it, two had rushed over. My eyes widened when one stepped behind me and held both of my hands behind my back while the other frantically opened the lock to her cell, walked over to Keisha and began to check for her pulse.

There was nothing.

Nothing at all.

Bloody hell!

He turned to me and with cold eyes, seethed; "You killed her."

For a moment, I was so stunned, I couldn’t even make sense of what he had just said to me, but when the realization slowly began to dawn on me, making me realize that this was beyond some child’s play and that this may have been her plan all along, my heart sank into my stomach.

"I didn’t... fuck, I didn’t!" I stuttered, shaking my head. "I didn’t even go close to her beside the one time I had stood too close to her cell!"

"She has been here for about two weeks now, and nothing like this has ever happened until today. How do you explain that?" The guard hissed at me, and frankly, I couldn’t respond.

I mean, how could I?

What was I supposed to say?

Fear began to claw its way up my spine when more guards rushed towards us, and while some tried so hard and failed to wake her up, the rest settled for asking me very useless questions.

One asked; "Wasn’t she awake when you came over earlier?"

I nodded, lowered my head and muttered; "Yes."

"Then how is she suddenly dead? Not fainted, dead. And why are there foams around her mouth? Did you come all the way here to poison her? Was this your plan all along?"

Naturally, I was quick to respond to questions like this but for some very odd reason right now, I couldn’t find my voice. I couldn’t even move either. I suddenly felt so weak, I could barely move my limbs.

My throat had suddenly gone dry and all the pleading I had left had dissipated, leaving me just... tired.

I sighed. "She did that to herself." I said softly. I was sure. "Earlier, when I was asking her a few questions, I saw her chewing on something. But because I thought that it was some of the food that she must’ve been given earlier today, I just never paid any attention to what she was eating."

My response made the guard standing beside me roll his eyes. He leaned closer— so close that I smelled the booze on his breath— and then hissed into my ear; "Are you working with her?"

That made me frown. I gritted out; "What do you mean?"

"You knew that her court hearing would be in a couple of days and then conspired with her to do this?"

My jaw dropped. I gulped. "N-no."

"Or are you the one she’s been working for?" He cut in, interrupting me. "You must be the one she works for and because you want your secret with her to die with her, you decided to—"

"SHUT UP!" I growled loudly, stunning myself and them. "If you have nothing sensible to say, please shut the fuck up! I didn’t conspire with Keisha nor has she ever worked with or for me before. I am telling you that she did this to herself to frame me because I am the reason she is behind bars!"

"I do not believe her!" One of them snickered but I paid him no attention.

"If you don’t believe me, then get one of the Alphas to come here then." I snarled, earning myself mocking laughter from the men. "Tell them what had just happened. I am sure they would be curious as well." I spat, but all they did was roll their eyes.

I was stunned when one of them jabbed his finger right at my forehead, causing me to stumble back in fright. He sneered; "Don’t you know that the Alphas are busy people?"

"You think any of the Alpha would have the time to waste on you—" another began to say to me, but before he could finish, he fell forward into the wall in front of him and dropped to the floor with a loud thump while blood ran from the corner of his lips and his ears.

The one who had been holding my hands behind my back was the next to go crashing into the floor. Then the one who had been so condescending followed.

The sudden ruckus made me squeeze my eyes tightly shut. I held my head in my hands and croaked out; "Whoever is there, I didn’t—"

"Open your eyes, Leilani. You don’t have to tell me anything." A masculine voice responded, interrupting me, and in turn, I peeled my eyes open only to come face to face with...

"Caelum?"

"Hello, beautiful."
