Chapter 461: Be more specific.
Leilani.
For the longest time, we didn’t pull away from each other. I mean, who would want to? Who would want to be away from that one thing that intoxicated them even more than any drugs could?
Who would want to steer clear when their whole body was tingling and screaming for more? More kisses, more caresses?
Definitely not me.
My body thrummed with pleasure so great, I could barely contain it as I took a step back; but as I did, I couldn’t help but notice the way the triplets’ gazes lingered on my body for a second too long or the way their eyes darkened when they moved from my face to my lips.
My breath hitched in my chest when Caelum leaned forward to brush a stray tendril of hair being my ear, and then... his fingers trails featherlight touches down the side of my face to my neck... then to my collar bone.
I mumbled; "thanks."
But he didn’t respond right away. By the gods, he seemed just as tongue-tied as I was, and it was safe to say that he was blushing due to the slightly pink color now staining his cheeks.
When I tried to move away, his hands immediately shot out to grab my arm, as if saying: ’Stay!’ But they dropped just as fast when he saw me cock my eyebrows at him.
"I’m sorry," he mumbled under his breath, his voice gruff. "That was a reflex action."
And I smiled.
Because, girll, what else could I do? How do I recover from this tingling in my body? How could I curb this smile on my face and the way my core trembled like it was on literal fire?
When I finally lifted my eyes to meet their gaze, because I wanted to ask us to leave now, my breath hitched one more time.
Why?
Because I couldn’t help the way my heart was beating so fast from seeing their dark lust filled eyes.
—And the way, goddess, the way it felt as though they were devouring me with their eyes.
If I said I didn’t like the way that made me feel then I was lying through my filthy teeth, but at the same time, it made me feel somewhat anxious. Self conscious even.
For some reason, I suddenly wanted to shrink into myself. I wanted to rush back into my room and wipe off the excess moisture now gathered between my thighs. My throat dried up when Kael came to hold my elbow suddenly. I flinched when he muttered softly; "We’re running late."
I blinked. "Yes?"
"I said, we are running late and Darius must be waiting right now." He replied, but something about his voice however, sounded like mockery.
His eyes held more mischief than I have ever seen— even on a mischievous child— and that in itself made me feel as though he could feel my predicament. Sense it. Smell it.
I shuddered at the thought of him being able to smell my arousal and shook my head. "You’re right. We’re getting late." I rushed out, and with that, I let him lead me away to the waiting limousine.
His brothers joined in shortly afterwards, but I couldn’t help notice how no one— practically no one— tried to meet my eyes, and goddess, I immediately knew that they were as anxious as I was, if not more.
Suddenly the car’s interiors, the blurry roads as we sped past and the city lights became more fascinating than my face, and as the car descended into an even more awkward silence, I could only sit there, wondering how this night had gone from beautiful to excruciatingly tense...
...and then I wondered how my ’meeting’ with Darius would go.
And I swear, that immediately made my mood go sour.
—
Darius.
I have never been one to be jealous jealous.
Goddess, if anything, I do not think that the emotion ’jealousy’ was one I have ever felt or was accustomed to because I am someone who always got whatever they wanted.
However, as I watched Leilani stride towards me like the Queen that she was, her red bottom heels clicking against the smooth floors of the silent parking lot, I felt jealousy twist dangerously in my chest, so much that for a minute, I even forgot how to breathe. How to speak; and even how to be a gentleman.
Now, let me clear whatever misconception you may get, I am not jealous of her.
She is beautiful. Powerful— might even be more powerful than I am— but I am not jealous of her. If anything, I am more jealous of the three wimps she was always found walking around town with, the three men who didn’t deserve her the most and the ones which now flanked her like executive bodyguards.
They were all dressed in expensive looking dark colored clothes like this was some dark themed party of some sort, not a meeting between me and my future Luna.
The thought made a frown etch its way onto my face and I crossed my arms over my chest when they got even closer, their eyes latching onto mine with cold indifference—
—but I felt the slight fear that oozed off from them no matter how hard they tried to hide it.
I also saw the almost unnoticeable twitching of their eyebrows and the way they ensured to not meet my steely gaze as they approached.
They were afraid of me. I liked that.
I smiled at Leilani then bared my teeth at her mates, and with a voice as smooth as honey, I drawled; "You didn’t say you would come with company,"
"We never specified if we would come with company or not, and because I do not trust you, I decided not to take chances." She shot back fiercely.
You see, her fierceness is one of the reasons she has my heart. Then her beauty is another reason.
I let my eyes rake down her dainty body, from the top of her silver-haired head to her face... to her plump red lips to her fragile neck... then down and down... and down...
Goddess, the way her dress hugs the curves of her hips is insane.
I gulped.
"I cannot speak with you when your mates are hovering around us like hawks." I hissed. But in truth, I could. I was sure that whatever she wanted to ask me was something that we could talk about even at the bottom of the Eiffel Tower, but I simply did not want them around.
Why?
Because I could not stand their stupid smell nor could I stand the way they always stood protectively around her like predators.
I let my eyes dart between them slowly, deliberately, and then I drawled coolly; "...if they must be here, darling, then I will have no other choice but to leave."
I let the threat hang between us for a moment then topped it off by beaming a smile that didn’t reach my eyes at them.
Leilani was the first to snap out of it. She glared darkly at me, squared her shoulders and shrugged. "They won’t be here." She answered quickly, without hesitation, and hell, I almost laughed aloud when her pretty little bodyguards’ faces fell almost instantly.
In obvious annoyance, they pushed forward, tilting their heads to see her face even more clearly but she still refused to look at them.
I smirked. "You heard the lady."
"But Leilani..." Caelum began to say, "...do you trust him enough to be here alone with him?"
"I am not going to be alone with him."
"So what the fuck are you saying?!" Kael hissed so loudly, some metals lying around rattled at the intensity of his tone, "how do you want to have a private conversation with him but not be alone with him? Do you know what he is capable of?"
"Hello!" I snapped, rolling my eyes, "I am still here in case you’ve forgotten!"
My outburst made all of them turn to stare at me with complex emotions on their faces. She glanced at me once and shrugged one more time, her voice barely above a whisper as she muttered; "Yes, I know what he is capable of. So just trust me and step away. You do not need to go too far, you just need to be as far away as possible for him to not perceive your scent anymore. You can just stand there." She finished, pointing to a far corner of the ginormous parking lot that was at least 3 miles away— I hope I am not exaggerating.
Her words made me mad but what annoyed me the most was the way Kael leaned over to brush her hair behind her ear. But deciding not to let my annoyance show, I cast them a satisfied smile which grew as I watched them walk away, and then I turned to Leilani.
"Why did you want to see me?"
"What do you know about my biological father? Did you partake in his death?"
I froze.
