Chapter 152: 152-That Fat Little Thing Is Confident Now
Verity:
I did not step away from either of them.
I just stood there between them, feeling Theodore slowly and playfully brush his fingers against my neck.
It was as if my tangled hair was no longer the reason he was standing so close to me.
Then there was Jaguar.
His eyes visibly moved from my lips to my eyes, then back to my lips.
I watched a hungry gulp slide down his throat.
He did not even try to hide it.
Even his lips parted slightly as he swallowed.
I had thought about this moment.
I mean, wasn’t this my end goal?
To get them so completely under my control that, one day, they would both be ready to take me.
They would both surrender to it.
However, now that I was standing between them like this, I began to remember that encounter in the elevator.
There had been other people there, so I had never really been afraid of things escalating.
Here, it was different.
It was dangerous.
We were the only ones here.
Shock filled me when Jaguar suddenly leaned toward me.
However, before anything could happen, the sharp click of heels echoed through the room, and it immediately pulled all three of us back to reality.
I did not move.
The two of them stepped away from me.
It was as if they had already realized someone they knew had arrived, someone they did not want finding out about their interaction with me.
"Hello."
Gigi arrived wearing a fitted yellow-and-white striped dress.
It hugged her figure from top to bottom, ending just above her knees.
She wore white stilettos and carried a white pearl handbag.
A pair of glasses rested on her face, which she immediately removed and pushed up onto her head.
"So, how are the preparations going?" she asked as if she belonged there.
There were no introductions to why she was here or greetings.
She simply set her bag down and smiled at Jaguar and Theodore.
"You two can go ahead and attend your meetings for the day. I’ll take care of her," she said casually, almost as if it was her role.
The authority she exuded was enough for the two of them to listen.
"Okay. Do you want coffee?" Jaguar asked as he walked past her.
"No, it’s okay," she replied with a smile.
Then I noticed her waiting.
As she stood there, she slowly ran her tongue over her teeth.
It was as if she was getting annoyed that they were taking so long to leave.
"Do you want anything?"
Jaguar stopped, turned around, and asked me.
I simply shook my head.
Behind him, I could see Gigi.
She was surprisingly open about her frustration.
I wondered why the brothers never seemed to notice it.
Or maybe they were the only ones she hid her true self from.
Because every once in a while, her mask slipped in front of everyone else.
Once they were gone, she turned her head toward the door.
It was as if she was making sure they were truly gone.
Then she turned to me, and a crooked smile spread across her lips.
"So, how is life, Verity?" she asked.
These were the weird moments when we were alone.
For a brief second, she looked me up and down.
I felt the judgment in her eyes, just like I used to back when I was what she referred to as a "Fat little thing."
"It’s great," I replied, forcing a confident grin.
"Right," she said, nodding before her eyes drifted to my neck.
"Oh, that man really did you dirty at the gas station," she commented.
A strange cough escaped from deep within her, almost as if she was proud of what her stalker had done to me.
"Yeah, he did," I replied. "It makes me so worried for you. Imagine if he’s doing this to me."
I pouted, watching her smile falter a little.
She was so fucking easy to read.
"You have a boyfriend. He’s a doctor, right?" she said, running her finger across the beautiful golden side table.
"Yeah. Dr. Roman Wells," I replied, my arms folded across my chest.
I did not follow behind her like I used to.
I stayed where I was.
If she wanted to talk, she would come to me.
"How did you do that? I mean, how did you manage to get a boyfriend? I guess you lost weight and all that. It’s very ’The Summer I Turned Pretty,’ you know."
She dramatically rolled her eyes before pausing.
"But the truth about your situation remains the same, Verity. You don’t even have a wolf. So, practically, you’re the weakest of the weak. How did Dr. Roman Wells think making you his girlfriend would work out for him? I mean, maybe he hadn’t planned that far ahead. Because, Goddess, your children would be so sick. Possibly even disfigured," she commented before placing a hand on her chest.
"Please don’t take any offense. You know I’m just very blunt and honest," she said with a mocking grin.
I kept staring at her before nodding and smiling to myself.
"No, it’s okay. I know you," I said.
The way I said it made her eyebrows knit together slightly, as if she were trying to figure out whether I was taunting her or not.
"Well, he’s a doctor, so he definitely knows that might not be true. And yes, we haven’t thought that far ahead. We’re not that type. At least I’m not. I’m not someone who meets a man and immediately clings to him with her claws, as if, Goddess forbid, his whole family belongs to me," I said in a taunting tone, rolling my eyes and making a dramatic gesture.
Gigi watched me.
She had stopped moving.
There was no expression on her face.
She didn’t even blink.
The old Gigi would have beaten the fuck out of the old Verity.
But this one wouldn’t dare.
"Well–" she began, pausing before she finally started walking toward me, her arms folded across her chest.
"Did you give your brother a funeral? Where is he buried?"
The question made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.
I searched her face for an explanation.
What was she trying to do?
Was she threatening me?
That she would dig him up and humiliate his dead body too?
