Chapter 146: 146-The Alpha King Of My Dreams
Jenna:
Ever since I was old enough to understand, I had considered Lady Lucille my grandmother.
My mother was maybe eighteen or nineteen, when her parents died.
After that, Lady Lucille took care of her.
Later, my mother got married, a decision Lady Lucille was never happy about.
But when you’re in love, you’re just in love.
Sadly, my father was never treated with much respect afterward.
I guess my mother realized very quickly that she wanted to marry into a higher rank, and he simply wasn’t enough for her.
There were times when I wanted to stand up for my father, but then there was Lady Lucille.
I had a privileged life because of her.
Even after my mother lost her status, I continued to live comfortably, all thanks to Lady Lucille.
So how could I throw all of that away? I had no choice but to bow my head to everything Lady Lucille said.

To be honest, I did it because I genuinely liked her.
She was like a grandmother to me.
I was always closer to Lady Lucille than I ever was to my own parents.
Growing up, Lady Lucille always told me one thing, that Ragnar and I were perfect for each other.
She never stopped saying he was the right match for me.
"What is it, Mom?" I asked as I entered her room.
She grabbed my arm and sat me down on the bed.
My mother rarely intervened in my life.
She let Lady Lucille decide everything for me, from the gowns I wore to the hairstyle I would have next.
So whenever she pulled me into her room like this and closed the door behind us for a private conversation, I knew it was serious.
"Have you had a chance to talk to Ragnar?" my mother asked, pulling a stool in front of the bed and sitting down so she could watch me closely.
"No," I replied casually.
"Take some interest in your fucking life, Jen."
My mother leaned forward and gave the back of my head a light slap.
It was more of a playful tap than a real hit, just enough to ’wake me up,’ as she liked to say.
"Ouch," I complained, rubbing the back of my head.
That was an exaggeration. She hadn’t hit me that hard.
"Why? Why would talking to Ragnar have anything to do with my life?" I asked, rolling my eyes.
I already knew where she was going with this.
"Do you have any idea what would happen if it were you instead of Gigi? Ragnar is very powerful."
My mother went off on another tangent about Ragnar, explaining how important he was and how much power I would have if I were with him.
"Mom, I don’t want that much power. I wouldn’t even know what to do with it. Besides, Ragnar isn’t my type. He’s harsh and rude. He honestly scares me," I complained, pouting.
"What the fuck do you mean he isn’t your type? Alpha King Ragnar is everyone’s type," my mother grunted, still refusing to understand my point.
"Mom, that’s because he’s good-looking, powerful, and rich. Other than that, don’t you see how he doesn’t even look at people when he talks to them? He’s so arrogant," I said, pouting as I looked down.

I had spent a good part of my life chasing Ragnar.
The last time we were young, he had harshly told me to stay away from him, and I had taken it very seriously.
I didn’t want to go through that humiliation again.
"But have you seen how he treats Gigi? Imagine if that were you," my mother said.
Now I understood what she was trying to do.
"Mom, that’s because he loves Gigi. He doesn’t love me. If I force my way into his life, he’ll treat me terribly. You know, like those Alphas who don’t love their Lunas but marry them because they’re fated? I don’t want that. I want love. I want affection. I want someone to choose me the way Ragnar chooses Gigi."
As I spoke dreamily, only one face came to mind.
"Theodore?" my mother asked.
I almost sat up straight, staring at her with my jaw hanging open.
"Isn’t it? You have a fucking crush on Theodore."
I immediately lowered my gaze.
"He’s single," I muttered with a pout.
From what I knew, Jaguar was dating Aster.
Ragnar was with Gigi.
Theodore, as far as I knew, was single.
If he had been with someone else, I would never have even considered him.
The thing was, he was my type. He was playful, warm, and easy to be around.
But I respected other people’s relationships.
I didn’t want to be the kind of woman who stepped into someone else’s relationship just to secure an Alpha King for herself.
My mother didn’t understand that.
She stared at me hard.
"You can spend seven lifetimes convincing yourself Theodore will accept you, but it will never happen. He’s never going to settle down with anyone. He’s a womanizer, and I’ll never let you ruin your life chasing someone like him. Besides, even if you tried, it still wouldn’t happen. He’ll never marry you. You’re just wasting your time."
My mother grimaced at the thought of me trying to impress Theodore.
She wasn’t wrong.

I knew where she was coming from.
She was afraid I would lose myself, only for Theodore to never marry me.
"Mom, I need to tell you something right now. I am not coming between Ragnar and Gigi, and I’m definitely not trying to flirt with Jaguar. He has a girlfriend. There’s nothing you can do to make me pursue either of them."
I had made my decision.
I would never become a pawn in my mother’s hands.
She watched me for a long moment before taking a deep breath.
"Fine. But if I let you spend time with Theodore, you have to promise me you won’t spread your legs for him. Because once a man gets what he wants, he walks away. And remember, you need to secure yourself a mate. A powerful one," my mother warned.
Finally, I smiled.
"I promise. It’ll all be innocent, and I’ll do everything with your permission," I said happily as I got up from the bed.
"Thank you so much, Mama."
I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her.
The moment I cheerfully ran out of her room, I bumped into none other than Theodore, the man of my dreams.
