Chapter 123: 123-Behind His Bedroom Door

Verity:

Flashback:

"This is so disappointing. The fact that you earned this position so you could live with your sister in an apartment and be her guardian at such a young age, yet you’ve grown up to be so hostile, is just so disappointing." The principal shook his head as he addressed Justin.

My eyes kept filling with tears as I took in the extent of his injuries.

He was bruised all over and bleeding from multiple wounds.

Then my gaze shifted to Oliver behind him.

He wasn’t in much better shape.

His shoulder was clearly dislocated.

His nose was completely broken and bleeding, and both of his eyes were swollen.

He was in pretty bad shape too, and so were his friends.

Justin didn’t have many people with him.

Just one friend whose parents had been in prison.

That friend came with him and fought as hard as he could.

"And my son has sustained so many injuries. Now who’s going to pay the hospital bill?" Mr. Gavin Hill, Gigi’s father, complained.

His wife stood beside Oliver in tears.

"Why would I pay for it? Aren’t you wealthy enough? Isn’t that what I’ve been hearing ever since I was called here?" Justin shot back, refusing to back down.

Everyone looked at him with disappointment.

"Why don’t you ask your son what he was doing with Verity for her brother to take a stand against him?" Justin’s friend spoke up, pointing at me before gesturing toward Oliver, who quickly looked down.

"My son would never do anything with someone like her," Mrs. Stella immediately said, looking at me with disgust.

"That worthless piglet comes to our home with her brother. I’m pretty sure she must have pissed off Oliver,"

Beta Gavin’s words humiliated me, making me lower my head and swallow my tears.

"That is enough. I will not stand here and let these grown-ass adults bully my sister. Why don’t you ask Oliver why he’s been bullying her? What about that?" Justin raised his voice.

The principal, who had already placed a red envelope on his desk, looked up.

Beta Gavin hadn’t come alone. He had come with a hefty donation from his pack’s Alpha.

The principal’s mouth tightened.

"Enough. I’ve heard enough. This is a school, not a fight club. Justin, because you started this, you and your friend," the principal said, pointing at my brother and his friend, "you are both expelled for a week. Sit at home and think about your actions. You will also be paying Oliver’s hospital bill. That’s my decision. Now get the fuck out of here."

The principal’s words made me look up at my brother.

I could already tell he was wondering how he was going to come up with the money.

Across the room, Oliver chuckled quietly despite the bruises covering his body.

There was a clear power imbalance.

No matter what my brother and I did, the principal knew we had no adult to stand behind us.

Even if Justin went to the council to complain, nothing would come of it.

Everyone would side against us.

There would be countless false witnesses ready to dismiss my brother’s claims.

That afternoon, Justin dropped me off at home.

He told me not to worry too much.

He and his friend had found him a part-time job, and he could use the week off to earn enough money to pay the hospital bill.

I was really grateful to his friend.

But I couldn’t help feeling guilty for Justin.

He was a good student.

I began to wonder if, without me in his life, he would have had a much better future.

End Of Flashback.

"Um— you should stay in the guest room," Roman said while I stood in the living room, looking around his condo.

I glanced around the condo, quietly taking everything in.

It wasn’t huge, but it was undeniably luxurious.

The black, gray, and white color palette gave the place a clean, modern look.

Every piece of furniture seemed carefully chosen, from the leather sofa to the marble countertops and soft lighting.

There wasn’t a single thing out of place.

The entire condo reflected Roman perfectly.

Organized, elegant, and every bit the home of a successful doctor.

A short hallway led to two doors facing each other.

One was his bedroom, and the other was the guest room.

I nodded and walked toward the guest room, but when I realized he was following me, I stopped in the doorway.

"You’re not going to sleep in your bedroom?" I asked, frowning in confusion.

He smiled, took the bag of medication from my hand, and shook his head.

"Why would I sleep in another room when my girlfriend is here?"

He smiled awkwardly, only confusing me even more.

"Then why can’t we stay in your bedroom?" I asked.

At first, I’d assumed he wanted me to use the guest room while he slept on his own.

But now that he was following me, I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t allowed in there.

"The bedroom’s a little messy," he replied almost immediately, though the hesitation in his voice didn’t go unnoticed.

"That’s okay. You’ve seen my place, and it’s nothing compared to yours. I don’t mind a little mess," I said as I reached for his bedroom door.

He reacted so quickly that his hand landed on the doorknob before mine.

For a split second, it felt as though he would’ve shoved me aside if he’d had to.

"It’s messy," he repeated, this time more firmly.

My gaze shifted from his hand to his face.

"Right," I murmured.

I waited for him to step aside.

He didn’t.

Instead, he remained planted in front of the bedroom door, deliberately blocking the entrance.

"How about I just sleep alone in the guest room tonight?" I suggested, deciding it was better to put some distance between us.

"Why? We can cuddle," he replied, taking a step toward me as though he intended to pull me into his arms.

My heart dropped at the suggestion.

I knew he was looking for ways to get intimate with me.
