Chapter 121: 121-The Arrival Of Storm

Theodore:

The moment I saw the footage, I completely lost it.

Before I even realized what I was doing, I had already hurled a vase at the wall.

The fact that Verity had gone through something so horrible without me even knowing made my blood boil.

I had no idea what to do.

My eyes shifted to Ragnar.

All he’d told me was that Verity had been attacked.

That was it. I’d assumed it wasn’t anything too serious, that someone had simply threatened her, because that’s exactly how Ragnar had made it sound.

Then Jaguar asked the question that mattered most.

"Did you take her to the hospital?" he asked Ragnar.

Without thinking, I walked around the couch and stopped in front of Ragnar, my hands resting on my hips.

I wasn’t trying to challenge him. I just wanted to know if Verity had been taken care of.

Ragnar let out a sigh before lighting his cigar and taking a slow puff.

"No."

The casualness in his voice made Jaguar and me exchange a glance before looking back at him.

"Why not?" I asked, my patience wearing thin.

"Because you didn’t ask me what the letter tucked into her dress said," Ragnar replied, closing the laptop with a sharp snap.

"Well, what did it say?" I asked.

It’s not like that changes anything.

I assumed the stalker had threatened Verity’s life and maybe that is why Ragnar didn’t take her to the hospital.

"There was a clear warning. If I took her to the hospital or anyone contacted the police, people would find out. Once that happened, the attacker would come after Gigi."

Ragnar fell silent.

What I couldn’t understand was that he genuinely seemed to believe he’d made the right decision.

He was actually waiting for our reaction.

"Wait. Why are you afraid of him?" I asked.

For the first time, Ragnar looked as though the conversation truly mattered.

His brows drew together as he met my gaze.

"We don’t know who the fuck this person is. I’m not going to let my ego put Gigi’s life in danger."

He didn’t look pleased that I’d questioned him.

"What about Verity?" I asked, ignoring both Jaguar and Ragnar.

I didn’t care whether they cared about Verity.

I did.

Watching her in that state had left me deeply unsettled.

It wasn’t fair.

I treated her with such care that I always thought twice before even touching her, afraid she might be uncomfortable.

Yet someone had the nerve to manhandle her, beat her, and leave her like that.

"She was fine," Ragnar said with a shrug.

"What do you mean she was fine? She looked badly beaten."

For once, Jaguar did the right thing.

Instead of blindly siding with Ragnar, he questioned him.

"Are you two really questioning me for putting Gigi above Verity?" Ragnar asked. "Did you forget? Verity isn’t as innocent as you think."

His words cut deep.

Jaguar and I exchanged a glance before lowering our eyes.

"Or do I need to remind you of everything she’s done?" Ragnar continued, tilting his head slightly.

"She was really young back then," I argued.

Jaguar looked confused.

"All I know is that she’s his sister."

As soon as Jaguar said that, I motioned for him to stay quiet.

I’d explain later what Ragnar had recently told me about Verity.

"Anyway, I wouldn’t have left her at home if I’d thought her injuries were serious. Trust me, she was fine."

Ragnar paused to take another puff from his cigar.

"Besides, my warrior told me she left with her boyfriend. She’s at his place."

He spoke so calmly that it almost sounded convincing.

Then his gaze shifted to Jaguar.

"And I’m sure you know that too, Jaguar."

My head snapped toward Jaguar.

The way Ragnar and Jaguar looked at each other made it obvious there was an unspoken truth between them.

I had no idea what they were talking about. I hadn’t even known Jaguar was aware of any of this.

"Anyway, we should focus on work. The trip has been delayed, and we have an important meeting on the twenty-seventh."

Before Ragnar could say anything else, my phone began to ring.

I glanced at the screen, and a smile immediately spread across my face.

"It’s Grandma."

Even Ragnar fell silent.

She was the only family we still had, or at least the only one who was truly close to us.

"Grandma," I answered happily.

"Finally, someone decides to answer me," Grandma replied in her usual casual, sassy tone.

"I’m so sorry. We got caught up with work," I said with a smile.

Jaguar walked over to me, smiling as well, while Ragnar, as expected, remained completely indifferent.

"Yeah, I know. Ragnar must be keeping you as busy as he keeps himself," Grandma scoffed.

I glanced at Ragnar.

He merely furrowed his brows, silently making it clear that he didn’t want to be the topic of conversation.

"Anyway, how are you?" I asked Lady Lucille, as everyone called her.

"Well, I was calling to give you some good news. I’m coming over to stay with you boys for a while. I’m seriously done with this place. These people don’t know how to take care of me."

Lady Lucille had always been a little dramatic.

Whenever she arrived, though, she never came alone. She came like a storm and left like one.

"Aren’t you happy?" she grumbled and I laughed.

"Of course I am. Please come over."

I looked at Jaguar, who smiled just as brightly.

Then my gaze shifted to Ragnar, who was already rolling his eyes.

"Don’t tell that brat Ragnar. I’m sure he’ll find a way to stop me from coming. But even if he stations guards at the border, I’ll still make it home to my grandsons," she declared cheerfully.

"No one’s going to stop you. You’re always welcome. Come over, okay?" I replied, trying to match her enthusiasm despite feeling the weight of Ragnar’s piercing stare.

"And once I get there, I’ll be taking care of all the events myself. You just get me a secretary, all right? Bye."

That was Lady Lucille.

She hadn’t even arrived yet, and she was already planning to turn our routine upside down.

Honestly, I didn’t mind. She brought life wherever she went, and I enjoyed parties and social events.
