Chapter 115: 115-We Once Hated Her

Jaguar:

"I was attacked," she told him.

He kept looking her over, breaking the hug every few seconds to check her face for injuries.

I stood there awkwardly, watching the way she interacted with him so gently.

"What do you mean you were attacked?" he asked, his voice turning harsh.

He still had an arm wrapped around her, making sure I knew she belonged with him.

"I’ll tell you everything later," she replied with a pout.

There was so much emotion in her eyes and confidence in her voice.

She looked completely comfortable around him.

There was no hesitation, no uncertainty.

They simply belonged together, and that was what bothered me the most.

"I don’t think we’ve met before," he said to me, his eyes finally moving away from her.

Verity slowly pulled away from him.

"I’m Alpha King Jaguar," I replied, feeling lifeless as I watched her in his arms. It was painful.

"Oh. I’m Roman Wells. Dr. Roman Wells."

The moment he introduced himself, I began to wonder if he had heard me tell her I wanted to take care of her.

I just hoped that was all he had heard. And from the way he acted, it seemed like it was.

"And of course I know who you are," he remarked, a sarcastic grin tugging at his lips.

"Your brother started a project to build packs on this island."

He spoke with deliberate precision. Every word was carefully calculated.

"Yeah. We realized that before it gets taken over by monsters, we should make this place better for werewolves."

It wasn’t meant as a joke, but I said it in a way that made him laugh. It was a dry laugh.

"Well, I have a complaint, then," he remarked, making me tilt my head as I held his gaze.

"My beautiful girlfriend was attacked on this island, which is honestly– I don’t even know how to put it."

I watched his jaw clench as he spoke. Then he pulled her closer.

I could tell even Verity hadn’t expected such aggression from him.

"I didn’t like it one bit."

He emphasized every word before biting his bottom lip.

"I want strict action taken against whoever did this," he continued.

I noticed his veins beginning to pop.

He had fucking met her less than a week ago. Why the fuck was he acting like she was his everything?

Was he purposely just fucking with me?

I could tell even Verity was confused.

"You don’t have to tell us how to do our job. Believe me, I know how fucking wrong what happened to her was," I said, trying to steady my breathing.

Every word that left my mouth came out with a heavy breath.

"She is not only your girlfriend. She’s my employee too, and we take our employees’ safety very, very seriously."

I could feel my body trembling with anger.

Every time his fingers curled around her back, it felt like he was stabbing me all over again.

Flashback:

"Please–please promise me you won’t say anything to him," I heard Gigi say over the phone while my eyes remained fixed on him ahead.

"Fine, I won’t. But I’m not sure how long I can stay quiet," I replied before hanging up.

I stood behind my car, staring at him over the roof with one hand resting on it.

Theodore stood beside me with his back against the car door. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it.

"Do you think he knows he’s a bastard?" I asked, watching Justin from across the road.

He was standing outside a small shop with a fat girl beside him.

"But it doesn’t matter whether he knows or not. We’re going to fuck him up so bad," Theodore said as he turned and handed me the lighter.

"And look at that fucking fat pig with him," I said, nodding toward his sister.

Gigi had told me he had a sister and that she had been really, really mean to her.

"I used to hear people say that ugly people are usually the meanest. Well, it looks like we have a live example," Theodore remarked, scoffing beside me as we watched the siblings.

"I suggested something to Ragnar the other day. What if we punished his sister the same way he’s punishing Gigi?" I said, taking a puff from my cigarette.

I haven’t really seen his sister, only from a distance.

Still, she looked like a really mean one. I mean, she looked like she could eat anyone who got in her way.

"And what did Ragnar say?" he asked.

Our clouds of smoke drifted into the air together as we took another puff.

"Well, he was against the idea. He warned me strictly and told me to stay away from his sister," I replied, rolling my eyes.

That was what I hated about Ragnar. Sometimes he could really get on my nerves.

Why couldn’t we play the game the same way everyone else did?

Why did we have to be fair, especially when it came to women?

Why the fuck would we spare Justin’s sister?

If we really wanted to punish him, the best way was to hurt him where it would affect him the most, and that meant going after his sister.

But Ragnar was completely against the idea.

End Of Flashback:

I don’t know why, but seeing Gigi standing next to Roman somehow took me back to the day I shared a smoke with Theodore.

Back then, we were both trying to convince Ragnar to let us punish Verity.

At the time, I didn’t know her. I hadn’t even seen her. I’d never met her.

I’m so glad we never did anything.

Because if we had hurt her back then, I wouldn’t be able to stand in front of her today and watch her exist.

"Baby, I brought you food," he said to Verity, his tone softening as soon as he looked back at her. "And I’m definitely going to want to hear what happened to this beautiful face of yours. I know I’m going to be so fucking mad."

His jaw clenched. I could tell he was furious.

Then his eyes met mine.

A silent tension settled between us.

He was holding the woman who was closest to my heart, and he still had the nerve to stand there and act as though nothing was wrong.
