Chapter 96: 96. Still young and have a lot to learn
At the Blackstorm pack,
Dana was still asleep and Kora showed signs of waking up any time soon either. Darren left the room where Kora was sleeping and met Lazarus and Julio having a discussion. They turn to him when they felt his presence. Alpha Julio gave a bow while Lazarus gave a nod to him.
"Where are Zeke and Damon?" Darren asked Julio. He walked past them and entered the alpha’s office as if it was his own and aar down. Julio and Lazarus walked in behind him sitting across to him.
"They have arrived, Alpha," Julio replies. He looked at the man who had taken his seat in his office leaving to sit where a guest should seat but he could not complain or call him rude when they all know he was rude as sSisdid not care about what anyone had to say about him. And also because he could provide the alpha supreme. "I will send for them now." He said again and mind-linked some to relay the message to the two aloha guests of his pack. "Would like anything, alpha?" He asked.
"Just get them here, there is nothing you can give to me even if I ask for it," Darren said with a flat tone.
Julio’s expression twitched at his word but he did not take offence in it. At least he tried not to take offence as it wouldn’t matter whether he did or not. Darren was loaded enough to get whatever he wants with just a snap of his fingers. It was one of the reasons why he was able to keep most of the alphas under wraps and, supporting g them financially and give jobs to the shifters who are unable to blend with the humans. "I have sent someone to get them Alpha."
Darren turned to look at Lazarus, "Congratulations on becoming a father." He said.
"Thanks," Lazarus said. As good as the feeling of being a father was, the thought of losing his mate did not allow him to be happy about it or express the joy that he should be expressing. He did not give the right reaction to it. Knowing how it was born premature, Lazarus could only hope it was strong enough to survive.
"You don’t sound happy at all," Darren pointed out and Lazarus shot him a dagger look. "They say people are usually happy when their child is born but that doesn’t seem to be the case with you."
Lazarus wanted to retort but he remembered that the mate to the annoying creature in front of him was his baby girl, Kora, who was unconscious because of her efforts to save Dana, he held back his tongue. Darren smirked when he saw the look in the face of Lazarus.
Julio, on the other hand, did not know why Darren was pushing Lazarus’ buttons but he knew that if one of them did but stop and a fight took place, he would be caught in the middle. Unlike him, Lazarus was only being respectful to Darren as an alpha and not because he was bound to do so and he has no reason to hold himself back from throwing a punch at Darren except to be the bigger man.
"Did I say something wrong? Or are you just bad at being a father?" Darren poked.
"You are still young and have a lot to learn, Darren, when you do and have learned enough, you will know what this feeling is," Lazarus said, able to get on Darren’s nerves for indirectly calling him immature.
Julio looked at Lazarus with a frown. Lazarus has the guts to insult the alpha supreme to his face, then doesn’t that mean that he was insulting everyone who was under him?
"Lazarus," Darren called with a warning tone. Lazarus kept a flat and blank face in the face of dark eyes that had gone darker after his remark.
Before anything else could happen, a knock was heard on the door and it was pushed open. Alphs Zeke and Damon walked inside a hut the door behind them. They came face to face with the tense atmosphere and stopped for a moment and looked between Darren and Lazarus.
They had heard about Kora and Dana being unconscious and wondered if the Alpha supreme was blaming Lazarus for the Luna supreme’s unconsciousness as he was looking as if he wanted to chip Lazarus’s head off. While Lazaris looked as if he was daring Darren to do something with the way he like at him.
"My patience is very limited Lazarus," Dartrn warned but Lazarus gave no reaction.
"The same can be said and vice versa," Lazarus said not blinking at all. "But it can be acquired with time and training which is something that you still haven’t."
Darren growled at him, releasing his alpha aura and Lazarus did the same. "That won’t work on me, you know that very well, Darren," Lazarus spoke and once again called him Darren without the Alpha title.
The two auras encompassed the room they were in and licked out affecting the people who were closer to the office. Alpha Zeke and Alpha Damon did not know whether to sit or remain standing.
From outside, Ezra and Mateo felt the two auras and could help the helpless sigh that escaped their lips. They both left where they were and matched towards the direction it came from meeting each other in the corridor leading to the office and giving each other an understanding look. Without knocking they opened the door and enter only to see Darrrn and Lazarus staring daggers at each other.
"Alpha,"
They said at the same time, calling each of their alpha and walking to stand next to them.
Julio and the others felt like they could finally breathe after seeing the two people who had just entered the room.
Lazarus and Darren both turned to face their respective comrades finally breaking it unofficial staring contest but the thickness in the air did not leave and still lingered.
