Chapter 2461: Chapter 2461: Holding Her in My Arms
The next morning, Jasmine Yale took a taxi to Siesta Garden Hotel.
Afraid the bracelet might be taken away, she arrived at the hotel lobby early.
Winter mornings tend to wake up late, with a layer of white fog lingering all around. The sun had just begun to outline itself in the east, shallow white frost hung on the dry grass and branches.
The atmosphere on the street was chill and fresh.
Jasmine wrapped herself tightly, donning a thick blue-gray plaid scarf and a cream-colored knit hat.
The lobby manager was a sweet-smiling UT girl, who led Jasmine over and handed her a box: "You’re Miss Yale, right?"
Jasmine nodded.
"It’s from Mr. Cheney, a guest of suite 8299 for you."
"Yes, it’s him."
"Then, please keep it safe."
Jasmine took the box and opened it.
As she opened it, she paused. It wasn’t Little Clementine’s bracelet.
This gold bracelet was clearly more valuable than her rose gold one, with more intricate carvings and craftsmanship, glittering with a bright, noble sheen under the light.
"Isn’t it a mistake?" Jasmine asked suspiciously.
"No, that’s the only item."
Holding the box, Jasmine went to the corner to make a call to Sylvan Cheney.
On the other end, the call connected.
"What’s up?" He sounded like he wasn’t fully awake.
Jasmine glanced at the time; it was already past seven in the morning. He usually didn’t sleep in—hadn’t woken up today?
"Am I disturbing your rest?"
"You are."
"Sorry, I came to get the bracelet, but the one you gave me isn’t mine."
"Yours got accidentally pushed under the bed, too lazy to retrieve it, so I bought you one as compensation."
"Can you get it out?"
"Can’t get it out!"
"You..."
"Hanging up." Sylvan sounded very tired, seemingly unwilling to say another word to her.
Jasmine looked down at the gold bracelet in the box, it was small and delicate, though refined yet endearingly charming, with an exceptionally fine craftsmanship.
She picked up the bracelet, saying nothing.
After pondering for a while, she closed the lid and put the box in her bag to take it home.
The sun had risen, with sunrise radiating energetic rays over flowers and grass, the white fog gradually dissipating.
Jasmine squinted up at the blue sky, her eyes betraying little emotion, calm as flowing water.
The bracelet was neither too big nor too small, just right for Little Clementine to wear.
It might have been the first time Little Clementine saw something so golden and shiny; her eyes fixed on her small wrist joyfully.
Jasmine tried to take it off, but she wouldn’t let her, clutching her little fist to stop Jasmine from touching it.
"Miss Yale, Little Clementine really likes this bracelet."
"She’s just attracted to new things; let’s see if she still likes it in a couple of days."
Little Clementine seemed unaware Jasmine was saying bad things about her, still happily engrossed, staring at the gold bracelet.
When the little one is calm, Jasmine adores her, wishing to hold her in her arms and shower her with kisses.
But when she throws tantrums, Jasmine wishes she could shove her back into her belly.
"Miss Yale, what’s your plan for today? After the Lantern Festival, the New Year feeling is truly gone."
"I’m going out to look for a job, so I can buy milk powder for Little Clementine." Jasmine affectionately gazed at her chubby daughter.
"Ah, so eager?"
"Staying at home all the time gets dull. In the future, Little Clementine will be left to you alone during the day; sorry for the inconvenience."
