Chapter 2441: Chapter 2441: Never Break a Promise to a Woman
Under the streetlamp, Jasmine Yale was somewhat lost in thought, her mind drifting who knows where.
The sky was completely dark.
The streets were bustling, with crowds of people coming and going, an endless stream.
A wind blew, the winter chill like a knife, always cutting sharp into the skin.
Jasmine Yale found the restaurant on the second floor, and a waiter led her to a private room.
Outside the door, she hesitated for a moment, then raised her hand and knocked.
In just a few seconds, the door opened.
The tall Sylvan Cheney stood opposite her.
How long had it been since they last met? Jasmine Yale couldn’t count, only remembered that the last time was at his apartment, when she went to pack her things.
More than a month.
Time really flies.
In the past, more than a month without seeing each other would have been nerve-wracking, but now, it passed by like the blink of an eye, without a single thought of him.
"Come in." He looked at her.
Jasmine Yale looked up at him too.
Sylvan Cheney stood against the light, his tall and graceful silhouette cast on the floor.
Jasmine Yale stared at his extremely familiar face for a long time, not knowing if it was because the lighting at the door was too dim, giving rise to a sense of unfamiliarity.
His eyes were unfamiliar, his expression was unfamiliar, his tone was unfamiliar too.
She said indifferently, "Are you alone?"
"Yeah." Sylvan Cheney nodded, "Come in, it’s cold outside."
Only then did Jasmine Yale enter the room.
With the door closed, she didn’t move further inside but stood by the door.
Sylvan Cheney frowned, "Sit down, don’t just stand there."
"No need, didn’t you have something to say to me?"
"Your daughter...didn’t you bring her?" Sylvan Cheney stood across from her, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.
"She’s shy."
Sylvan Cheney’s frown deepened, unable to help recalling the scene he saw downstairs that night.
Her daughter was very cute, he really did want to see her.
And now, Jasmine Yale’s simple "she’s shy" left him with a great sense of helplessness, but her coming was already a big surprise to him.
"I’ve ordered a table full of dishes, today’s New Year’s Eve, let’s eat together." Sylvan Cheney looked at her.
The room was warm, filled with the aroma of dishes and the scent of incense.
Jasmine Yale glanced at Sylvan Cheney, tonight he was dressed very casually, a loose smoky gray sweater, which made him look much younger, with a gentle warmth in his brow and eyes.
"Mr. Cheney, do you know what New Year’s Eve means? New Year’s Eve is also called Reunion Night, meant to be spent with one’s family. My daughter is still waiting for me at home, and I will go to accompany her. As for you, if you feel lonely dining alone, you can find someone to join you, just not me."
"Can’t you spare even a meal with me?"
"It’s not that I can’t, I have plenty of time, but I don’t want to waste it." Jasmine Yale looked at him, her gaze indifferent, "The reason I’m here is to tell you there’s a phrase ’cutting off cleanly’, if it can’t be explained over the phone then say it face to face."
Sylvan Cheney closed his eyes slightly, his eyes filled with a pale blue indifference.
Jasmine Yale leaned against the door, not wanting to take a single step forward: "I don’t know what you want to say to me, but what I want to say is just these four words. Also, as a man, don’t break a woman’s trust, women are soft-hearted, they will believe you. No matter who you are with in the future, remember what I’ve said, don’t disappoint others again."
"I know I let you down, I’m sorry." Sylvan Cheney lowered his eyelids, his eyes devoid of any luster.
"I don’t accept it, and you don’t need to apologize to me."
