Chapter 2340: Chapter 2340: Lies Are All Meant to Conceal Certain Truths
Jasmine Yale quickly added a few more words: "You know what I mean, last time it turned out like that. If someone who knows us recognizes us, I can’t explain it well."
"What happened last time was a moment of impulse on my part, and I brought a very negative impact on you. I’m sorry." Sylvan Cheney apologized to her, his eyes full of sincerity.
Jasmine didn’t expect him to apologize to her once more.
He had already apologized to her many times for what happened last time, and she had forgiven him, but he still dwelled on it.
However, lingering on it isn’t necessarily a bad thing; at least it might serve as a lesson learned.
"Forget it. If it’s hard to explain, then it’s hard to explain. Let’s go, let’s go together." Jasmine was indifferent about it.
She carried so much gossip already, another piece wouldn’t matter.
They got out of the car.
Sylvan carried the documents for her, walking slowly with her on the campus path.
He dressed very casually today, the gray long coat accentuating his lean figure to its fullest, the sunlight falling on his brows and eyes as he squinted slightly.
The trees by the roadside had mostly shed their leaves, with only a few scattered ones still hanging at the tips, swaying in the wind.
"Do you see that tree? The biggest one!" Jasmine pointed excitedly, "I loved doing morning reading under that tree. The foreign language major required a lot for speaking. When I first came to Chicago, I couldn’t get many sentences right, so I did morning reading every day."
She recalled the time when she first came to Chicago.
And back then, wasn’t he with Joan Harry?
Sylvan’s eyes followed her finger, as if seeing a young girl holding an English book, reading aloud.
She wore a dress, the mottled shadows of leaves casting on her face.
A very beautiful picture, but unfortunately, he wasn’t part of it.
"That’s the library. It’s very large inside. If we have time, I can take you to see it."
"That’s the research building, and that’s the academic center. I haven’t been to those places, they sound boring."
"There, that’s the building where I often had classes, and it’s also the most design-forward building in our school." As Jasmine walked, she introduced them to him, "School days were really interesting. I wish I could linger at school without leaving."
"Did you study hard back then?" Sylvan asked.
"Of course, haven’t you seen my resume? I got scholarships every year." She looked proud.
Without getting scholarships, there was no way; she couldn’t afford the high tuition fees. She had to strive for the top scholarships, and she had to support Sweet Kitty.
Walking with her, Sylvan seemed to relive her university life once.
Mentioning those times, Jasmine seemed in high spirits, eagerly talking with him.
Yet, what puzzled Sylvan was that she never mentioned her husband. She barely spoke of that man, to the point where it was as though he never existed.
He remembered her mentioning before that her husband was wealthy but later went bankrupt.
If he was so wealthy, why would he let her take on part-time jobs, odd jobs? Or maybe, she never had such a husband.
She had many contradictory statements, but Sylvan never exposed them.
Lies are to cover some truths; since she needs these lies, exposing and questioning them would only embarrass her.
He just needed to know that the present her genuinely liked him and treated him well, and that would be enough.
As for the past, there’s no need to ask, and as for the future, he can manage it.
A leaf fell onto Jasmine’s shoulder, and Sylvan raised his hand to gently brush it off for her.
