Chapter 2520: Chapter 1106: The Future Lord of the Dead (2)

This is getting interesting!

Gaven immediately clammed up and crouched to watch the commotion.

The Record Keeper’s orange eyes began to rotate once again, filled with fantasies, drily saying to Kellanwo: "Taking over the Office of the Dead, restructuring the Death Order, is your destiny, an inescapable responsibility..."

"Don’t talk to me about destiny crap!" Kellanwo waved impatiently and said, "That’s just a tool you True Gods came up with to fool mortals. Apart from you clinging to that nonsense, other True Gods treat it as a joke, not taking it seriously at all...

Instead of wasting effort on me, wouldn’t it be more convenient for you to take charge directly? Clearly, you care the most about it, yet you toss it to a bunch of unqualified people because of so-called destiny. Don’t you think that’s a stupid thing to do?"

He illustrated through his actions what it means to be unyielding due to lack of desire, even refusing the opportunity to become a True God.

Naturally, there’s nothing to fear, directly mocking the Ancient God of Death vehemently.

Gaven listened with secret delight; these words were also what he wanted to say.

Upon careful analysis, the Saints’ Calamity is closely related to this Ancient God of Death. If he hadn’t transferred his divine position to the Three Gods of Death at that time, this series of chaos would not have occurred.

Of course, this analysis is somewhat far-fetched; no one knows if greater turmoil would have happened had the Ancient God of Death not transferred the divine position.

Matters involving True Gods are never trivial, especially with Strong Divine Power.

The Record Keeper’s expression remained emotionless, drily saying with a hollow tone: "My destiny is to pass the Office of the Dead to you, assisting you in restructuring the Death Order..."

These words could be said to offer nothing new; both Kellanwo, who had heard them countless times, and even Gaven, who hadn’t interacted with him for long, clearly felt that this was an old tune, unconvincing, at least not to someone uninterested in this matter.

Watching the commotion is one thing; tasks still need to be done. Gaven suggested from the side: "Record Keeper, some things simply cannot be forced, especially concerning divine positions. If the individual is not inclined, forcibly thrusting the divine position upon them will only result in negligence."

These words plunged the Ancient God of Death into a long silence. As an experienced True God, he understood this truth clearly, but his destiny illusions wouldn’t get it wrong, nor would he misjudge the person.

Having Kellanwo manage the Office of the Dead was the best choice.

Gaven turned to Kellanwo and said: "I don’t know, Kellanwo, why you refuse the Record Keeper’s proposal, but I implore you to walk around the Felen Continent more. Take a look at what tragic fate mortals will face under that Mad God’s management of the Office of the Dead?

I fear I’m not the only one to have stolen Undead Divine Power, but I believe those able to use it as restrained as I do are unique.

Souls without a home are wandering and wailing in the wilderness.

Countless souls are becoming tools and playthings for those evil powerhouses.

Demons of the Bottomless Abyssal and Devils of The Nine Hells are stirring, turning the Felen Continent into their new hunting ground. Even our Wealth Goddess Woken has been imprisoned by Prince Grazte of the Ubar.

Meanwhile, our current Lord of the Dead is lost in the conspiracy and lies he wove, deluding himself into thinking he can become Felen’s sole god.

True Gods possess not only rights but also responsibility, especially the God of Death, who is mortals’ first line of defense for their souls. If even this is riddled with loopholes, the world is on the verge of complete collapse."

Compared to the Record Keeper, Gaven’s persuasion skills are far superior.

He did not directly persuade Kellanwo to vie for the Office of the Dead but kept it at the heart of the matter.

Moreover, he hit directly at his Achilles heel—compassion and the warrior’s duty to protect, which can be seen from his actions as Lord of the Dead.

Though Kellanwo did not immediately nod, he also did not refute on the spot like he did the Record Keeper.

Over the past two years, he hadn’t been idle, his footsteps covered most of Felen, witnessing countless lives and deaths, slaying numerous Undead.

The more he traveled and saw, the more fury and regret accumulated in his heart.

Anger at the Prince of Lies’ breach of faith, and breaking his promise.

Remorse for credulously believing his former partner’s promise, handing the Office of the Dead away, resulting in those souls struggling in unrest after death.

He could not answer Gaven’s questions and could only respond in silence.

Gaven waited for them to digest before continuing: "I am willing to keep this Undead Divine Spark for you, whenever you come round, feel free to take it. I will stand firmly on your side; the Prince of Lies is unfit to manage the Office of the Dead."

Times have changed.

As the Divine Nature Force he and his allies mastered increased, the importance of Undead Divine Power to Gaven diminished.

Though it was not entirely expendable, lacking it wouldn’t critically impact him.

Additionally, given Kellanwo’s character, he wouldn’t burn bridges.

Then, he might still borrow some of that power, but with legitimate reasons.
