Chapter 2512: Chapter 1103: Ancient God of Death (Part 3)
Gaven chose to let Daphne know of his arrival because it served as a motivation for her.
People have different thoughts and perspectives.
Gaven had always been wary of any kind of mind control, even charm spells, for various reasons—originating from his background, and also due to his dislike of having his body controlled by others.
However, someone like Daphne, who opts to serve a deity’s sacrificer, not only does not reject it, but instead sees it as an honor.
Sure enough.
Daphne’s entire demeanor became filled with emotion as she cautiously inquired while walking toward the magic cottage of Legendary Arcanist Philancy: "Master, when will you return to the Material Plane? Though Ms. Katherine is impressive, there are still many things she cannot replace you in, and many areas are starting to become unstable, especially the Eastern Desolation which is facing new internal and external threats."
"What internal and external threats?" Gaven asked with concern.
"On one hand, there’s the matter on the sea—you know very well how rampant the pirates of the Sea of Fallen Stars have always been. They have made considerable gains during the Eastern Desolation’s wars, and the damage done during the Year of Upheaval still hasn’t fully recouped."
They are no longer satisfied with recruiting soldiers; they’ve begun to shift their sights to the land, and I heard they have set their eyes on Tavelan and Usmer. This is a lethal threat against our budding shipbuilding and shipping industries."
"And what else?"
"There’s an undead disaster erupting in the Endless Wilderness, poised to sweep across the entire region. Though they are stalled there, it still significantly affects the development of the Far East Territory.
The reopening of the Golden Road has been indefinitely delayed, not to mention the differing attitudes toward this undead disaster between Ms. Katherine and the Soaring Dragon Generals in the Far East Territory."
Gaven did not express any opinion on this but instead commended, "You’ve done well. Organize all the intelligence in your possession and compile it for me. If nothing unforeseen occurs, I’ll be able to return to the territory soon."
The intelligence held by Daphne is ultimately partial and can only serve as a reference.
The specific situation requires him to conduct on-site assessments and hear reports from those involved before making judgments and decisions, which is the basic cultivation of a qualified lord.
"At your command."
"And what of the Master of the End of All Things? Is he still at Weizemay Manor?" Gaven shifted the topic to the divine visitor.
Speaking of the Master of the End of All Things, many might not be familiar, but mentioning another name would surely ring a bell—the Ancient God of Death, Yego.
It was inevitable that this master would come looking to Weizemay Manor, as he also governs the Office of the Death Order, a power that is neither too big nor too small.
On the small scale, he only has the duty to ensure the orderly process of death.
On a large scale, he is responsible for monitoring whether those with death clerical duties perform them correctly, and whether the entire world’s death order operates normally.
Thus, he also holds the titles of the Death Butler or Copyist of the End. He once served as a butler in Mikol’s Skeleton Castle, has served in Shylock’s Shattered Castle, and in the future will appear as a butler beside Kellanwo, serving this new Lord of the Dead.
Although no literature records it, many mortals firmly believe that the Prince of Lies had his office of the dead seized by Kellanwo, and that it was orchestrated by this Death Butler.
Even though he stepped down from his position on the God of Death, he never truly escaped its control, pulling strings behind the scenes.
Such conspiracies are not unfounded, since the three successive gods of death after him all have close ties to him.
Gaven used to make small moves here and there, but now in the Bottomless Abyss he’s created the Undead Slaughter Territory, shaped Corpse Giants and Shadow Flyers, and is lavishly harvesting souls with the Undead Half-Giant Great Chief in the Giant Plains.
If this Death Butler doesn’t confront him, it would actually be a dereliction of duty.
Before Gaven returns to the Material Plane, he must devise how to handle any blame from the counterpart.
If not handled well.
Losing Weizemay Manor would be the least of his worries; worse would be having the current Lord of the Dead, Shylock, brought to him, and this is what Gaven most wishes to avoid, especially after witnessing the horror of strong divine power, realizing how much he still needs to prepare.
"Still there!" Daphne said with evident helplessness, "In the manor, anything related to death is indefensible against him; all recorded onto the Death Scroll, and until now, he has not said a word..."
Daphne’s complaints came to an abrupt halt, for at the entrance of the magic cottage of Legendary Arcanist Philancy, she saw a familiar figure.
This figure was remarkably distinctive and impossible to forget.
The entire person was shrouded in a hooded, completely airtight shadow cloak, making it impossible to discern his real face—like a mass of shadows, only the pair of amber-orange eyes remained.
These eyes were narrow at an odd angle, entirely unlike those that a human should possess, devoid of any emotional color, only radiating a cold deathly aura.
Exposed outside the shadow cloak, the hands wore long white gloves, and the arms were thin and bony, with hands curved claw-like.
In his hand was a black scythe, but the head of the scythe was actually a giant black quill pen. The scythe was wrapped around by rolls and rolls of scroll, seemingly endless, inscribed with intricate, hard-to-comprehend texts.
The texts weren’t unreadable, but it appeared the scroll had been repeatedly used, countless writings overlap, combine, and covers one another.
He was the Ancient God of Death Yego; more precisely, this should be a Divine Nature Incarnation of him.
As Daphne had rightly pointed out, anything associated with death has no secrets before this death recorder, and the magic cottage of Philancy moored next to Weizemay Manor was no exception.
He certainly followed Daphne’s trail here, for as long as one remained in an undead state, the Dwarves Elf Priestess could not avoid his gaze.
