Chapter 2171: Chapter 2171: This Is an Academic Issue
Senior Brother Shim outside used his hand to form a megaphone and loudly called people out to eat: "Yingying, aren’t you coming out to eat?"
The senior brother issued a serious warning; if she didn’t come out to eat, the consequences would be severe.
Shim Youhuan was worried that Junior Cao would blame him afterward for someone going hungry.
She walked out to follow her senior brother to the doctor’s office to eat.
It was late at night, and only the team whose surgery extended deep into the night was left. The frontline duty personnel with nothing else to do had gone to sleep. There was no one else in the office; upon entering, two people could be seen with their heads buried in the food trough like little piglets, their heads couldn’t lift up, and the sound of chewing was loud.
Upon closer look, they were the two interns Zhang Shuping and Du Mengen.
Shim Youhuan shrugged and raised his eyebrows at the two juniors’ eating state, expressing a sense of understanding and asking his junior sister: "Yingying, are you hungry?"
Xie Wanying respected science: "I’m definitely hungry too, Senior Brother."
It’s just that she might be slightly better off than the others because she usually eats by chewing slowly and thoroughly, trying to digest food well. Binge eating actually makes it easier to feel hungry. Slow and thorough chewing can reduce hunger sensation and also prevent gaining weight.
Before she spoke, Du Mengen and Zhang Shuping were initially indifferent to their own eating manner; for them, food was as solid as iron, indispensable. However, Xie’s words struck deep into their solid core; their faces flushed red from the top of their heads to their toes: it seemed it wasn’t a lack of table manners; rather, their studies might not be sophisticated enough.
Shim Youhuan walked away. Xie Wanying found the lunchbox Student Geng left for her and heated it in the office’s communal microwave before sitting down to eat slowly. Teacher and Student Geng guessed she worked hard and ordered a lot of dishes and meat for her, estimated to be twice the usual portion in a lunchbox.
After finding her food and returning, Shim Youhuan placed a bottle of whole milk and a straw in front of her, instructing, "Director Zhang left this for you. Drink it tomorrow morning for energy. Our Guo Zhi Hospital won’t shortchange those who work hard."
The Boss probably feared her fainting incident after donating blood would repeat, and wanted to provide her with additional nutrition.
"Thank you, Teacher Zhang." Xie Wanying humbly accepted the education from the Boss.
"I’ve arranged for someone to reserve a bed in the women’s duty room for you. Go to sleep after you finish eating." Shim Youhuan patted her head, reminding her to rest obediently, and returned to his own office to sleep. When there’s time to sleep, seize it, to avoid being unable to get up when patients need emergency care in the middle of the night.
Zhang Shuping and Du Mengen finished eating and laid their heads on the office table for a quick nap.
The night duty room was crowded and wouldn’t have a place for them to sleep. They either had to go home or stay here. Thinking about it, since they were already here, and couldn’t catch a cab home in the dead of night, they might as well shamelessly stay here and see it through to the end.
After eating and drinking to satisfaction, Xie Wanying strolled back to the patient’s ward before going to sleep.
First, it was for having peace of mind after checking on the patient, avoiding criticism for being woken up midway without knowing the situation. On the other hand, Boss Zhang’s stunning pre-surgery performance had stimulated her. Mastering the patient’s condition before and after surgery is profound knowledge, not as easy as performing surgery. Sometimes even if a surgery is successful, the patient can die due to post-operative treatment strategies, which is frustrating for surgeons.
Usually, patients with successful surgeries in the ward don’t need to consider these factors, while more critical post-operative patients are directly sent to the ICU. To encounter a special case today for hand-on practice is an opportunity.
