Chapter 418: Chapter 229: The Purifying World’s Duty; The Secret Tome (Part 2)
As soon as the words fell, You Su raised his right hand, and in his palm was the jade bead.
The atmosphere in the box instantly turned heavy and thick, beneath the octopus veil, a pair of clear, bright eyes stared at the young man.
"Ask."
"The history of the Exorcism Bureau spans over a millennium, known as the most powerful organization across the Five Continents. Even they have no knowledge of the True Lord, how is it that you know? You’ve even been searching for the True Lord for a millennium."
"As I mentioned, regarding the True Lord, I..."
Huijun’s words were abruptly interrupted by You Su, whose fingers already exerted a faint pressure, the jade bead on the verge of shattering.
"I’ve also said, if you don’t answer, I won’t cooperate."
You Su’s tone was unwavering, brooking no refusal.
He stared at Huijun’s face intently, even though he couldn’t see. Both were appearing blind or veiled, yet, bizarrely, their gazes locked in confrontation.
Finally, Huijun relented:
"This is the Heavenly Revelation."
"Heavenly Revelation? How is it related to the Celestial Revelation Divine Mountain?" You Su was poised to crush the jade bead at any moment.
"The Daoists of Celestial Revelation Divine Mountain, they proclaim their randomly concocted divinations as revelations, are they to be trusted? What I speak of, however, is a true Heavenly Revelation."
"Continue."
"It’s not that the Exorcism Bureau knows nothing, but rather they are unable to know. The World Purification Sect, in its inception, was merely a faction within the complex affiliations of the Exorcism Bureau. When the first Sect Hierarch set sail to seek the whereabouts of the evil god, he inadvertently glimpsed the legendary Scroll of Secrets, and after learning the secrets of the True Lord, he decisively returned to secretly establish the World Purification Sect. Everything about the True Lord was assimilated within the World Purification Sect, leaving outsiders clueless."
"What is this Scroll of Secrets?"
"See, I told you it’d be a waste explaining."
Huijun mocked mercilessly, seemingly as retaliation for having been outmatched by You Su moments earlier.
You Su furrowed his brows, threatening to crush the jade bead, but Huijun quickly spoke out, halting his action:
"The Five Immortal Ancestors collaborated to build a high wall beyond the sky to block foreign demons, but legend has it they didn’t completely perish, leaving a glimpse of their spirits watching over the mortal world from above. The mortal world is fraught with suffering and confusion, hence they authored a Scroll of Secrets documenting the ultimate mysteries, circulating among humanity. No one has fully read it; it only briefly appears before destined individuals, guiding them like a revelation."
Listening, You Su found himself entranced, pondering the implications of the Scroll of Secrets.
Did the Five Immortal Ancestors consider later generations too obtuse, leaving behind a guidebook on purpose?
The deeper You Su delved into this world, the more he felt it was shrouded in mysteries.
What exactly was the world like five thousand years ago? Where did evil spirits originate? Why hasn’t anyone ascended in the celestial path over five millennia? Is the celestial path a sham?
If You Su were merely a youth learning the sword in Chuyun City, these matters would be inconsequential to him, he would simply train diligently as usual.
However, having gradually ascended to the center of the world, these issues now intimately concerned him.
He was eager to know the answers, whether to uncover the truth of this world or just for survival.
"That’s all I have to say, we’ve talked long enough, the Exorcism Bureau and the World Purification Sect aren’t in conflict. At least for now, all you need to do is earnestly exorcise. Working one job, getting paid for two, isn’t that splendid? Now, tell me your choice."
Huijun lay back against the headrest, arms crossed, the opulence beneath her loose gray dress more pronounced, exuding the same unwavering confidence.
"I refuse."
You Su’s answer made Huijun’s body stiffen.
Huijun sat upright again, emitting an invisible pressure, forcing You Su to also focus intently.
"Reason."
Huijun enunciated each word distinctly.
"What you can offer me is too vague. The Exorcism Bureau can train me to become one of the strongest individuals alive, what can you offer? A vow not to kill me? Would you believe it if you were in my place?"
You Su retorted bluntly.
"We will help you become the true True Lord, once you fully comprehend the Power of the True God, no one in this world could kill you."
Huijun restrained the fluctuation in her tone.
"What if I don’t want to become the true True Lord? I’ve never intended to become the true True Lord, that’s the truth."
"Are you deliberately being contrary?"
Huijun was somewhat angry now, for the first time since her entrance.
She couldn’t comprehend if this blind man was thick-skulled, couldn’t they just agree on some formalities? What harm would it cause?
"I don’t mean it that way, I just hope both parties can be more honest." You Su lifted a teacup, sipping his first drink of water since entering.
"More honest?" Though Huijun’s face remained hidden, one could hear her laugh in rage, "If you don’t cooperate, I have ways to let the world know you harbor evil, and those around you as accomplices in sheltering demons!"
"Is that all?"
Surprisingly, You Su looked unfazed, evidently aware that the Exorcism Bureau wouldn’t let him die. To the Chief Elder, so long as evil could be vanquished, it mattered not who he was.
Huijun’s chest heaved, filled with indignation. She exhaled deeply, her tone finally returning to calmness:
"You’re really here to protect that playboy outside, aren’t you?"
You Su furrowed his brows slightly.
"And you’re protecting him because he is your master’s brother. You hope for a reconciliation between your master and her family, thus you accepted his invitation."
You Su was inwardly surprised, wondering who his opponent truly was, being able to unearth such deep information.
"Your lack of cooperation would be his fault. If anything happens to him, it would be on you. And your master would know it was you who harmed her own brother."
Huijun’s voice became quiet and dangerous.
"Does that satisfy you?"
You Su nodded, "Next time, just voice such threats earlier, so I can weigh the pros and cons sooner rather than wasting more words."
The expression beneath Huijun’s veil briefly twitched in speechless disbelief at You Su’s demeanor.
This young man was assured they were cultists, wasn’t he? Being threatened using special means seemed to be his preference for peace of mind!
Huijun sighed, her delicate fingers flipped and produced a jade token from her sleeve, placing it in front of You Su.
"This is the Xuanji Order. The Exorcism Order can convey messages, but it’s one-way transmission, whereas our Xuanji Order is far more valuable, allowing two-way message transmission. Thanks to this, our World Purification Sect doesn’t need to gather, yet remain connected through it."
You Su picked up the jade pendant, feeling its texture, indeed superior to the Exorcism Order. However, given the large number of the Exorcism Bureau, the production cost of a two-way communication token is too high, even they couldn’t afford such an expense.
"You’re just giving this to me simply? No need for blood sacrifice, contracts, or seals?"
Of course, You Su maintained a skeptical attitude towards Huijun’s words, knowing that actions spoke louder than words.
"Should I chop off half your hand?"
Huijun felt somewhat exasperated, maybe it was because he was blind. If he could see, he wouldn’t think she belonged to a cult.
You Su raised the jade bead slightly, not thinking the other party was joking.
"Remember, you are merely the True Lord of evil spirits, not our True Lord. If you don’t want a mutual destruction, don’t be too arrogant."
Huijun sighed, "Should there be a situation, I will contact you through the Xuanji Order. For today, let’s end it here. To avoid suspicion, I’ll leave first, you follow after."
With that, Huijun gracefully stood and walked out the door.
You Su remained seated, his brows slightly raised, musing.
Did Huijun have an urgent matter? Logically, she was the host today, what reason was there for her to leave first, making the guest wait?
You Su lingered for a moment, drank his fragrant tea, and then opened the door.
"Mr. You!"
He Kongyue greeted him warmly, indeed he had been waiting outside all along.
You Su hurriedly stepped forward, subtly sniffing.
He used his blurred vision to compare He Kongyue’s height, thinking to himself:
Perhaps I overthought it...
