Chapter 187: Xavier (1)
Clang!!
Noah’s sword collided head-on with Xavier’s.
The instant the blades met, Noah’s expression changed.
"Argh!"
A terrifying force surged through his arms.
’He’s stronger...!’
His feet slid several meters across the ground, carving deep trails through the soil before he managed to stop himself.
His fingers tightened around the sword. ’He’s at the Condensed Core Realm... Low Rank... maybe even Mid Rank. Dammit!’
Noah quickly glanced at Myra. "Mary! Let’s draw him away!"
She immediately understood his intention.
"Got it!"
The two of them dashed deeper into the forest. Branches whipped past their faces as they sprinted between the giant trees.
Behind them he came.
Boom!
Xavier kicked off the ground. His speed exploded. Within only a few seconds, he had already closed the distance.
"So slow."
His cold voice came from directly behind Noah.
Noah instantly spun around.
Clang!
Their swords collided once again. This time, deep blue lightning surged across Xavier’s blade.
Crackle!
Violent currents exploded through Noah’s sword.
"ARGHH!"
Electricity rushed through his arms, making every muscle twitch violently. The numbness spread toward his shoulder.
Noah immediately threw himself backward before Xavier’s follow-up strike could reach him.
He landed several meters away and exhaled heavily.
’Troublesome...Lightning Affinity.’
The crackling mana around Xavier’s weapon wasn’t merely increasing its cutting power.Every clash sent electricity through Noah’s body, slowly numbing his muscles.
Xavier smiled faintly.
"You’ve got decent instincts. But that’s all."
He vanished again.
"So fast!"
Noah barely managed to react.
Clang!
Clang!
Clang!
Three consecutive strikes rained down without giving Noah a chance to breathe. Each impact forced him farther backward.
His arms began trembling from the accumulated force.
’He’s overwhelming me...’
Just then he asked for help.
"Mary!"
A golden magic circle appeared beneath Noah’s feet.
Warm orange light enveloped his body.
[Strength Enhancement]
Mana flowed into his limbs. The soreness in his muscles lessened. His physical strength noticeably increased.
"I’ve boosted your strength!" Mary shouted.
"Good!"
She raised her wand.
A crimson magic circle rapidly formed before her.
[Fire Lance]
Three blazing spears condensed in the air before shooting toward Xavier.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Xavier didn’t even stop moving.
His sword flashed.
Slash!
Slash!
Slash!
Each fire lance split cleanly in half before exploding harmlessly behind him.
Boom!
Boom!
Boom!
The surrounding trees shook from the explosions.
Noah didn’t waste the opportunity.
Dozens of sharp ice spikes erupted from the ground beneath Xavier’s feet.
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
The spikes pierced upward from every direction.
Xavier calmly leaped into the air. The ice shattered beneath him.
Before he landed. Noah was already waiting. His sword became coated in beautifully compressed blue ice. Cold mist spread around the blade. He swung with all his strength.
Clang!
Xavier blocked the strike effortlessly with one hand. A grin appeared on the demon’s face.
"So this is your Ice magic? Not bad. But too weak."
Blue lightning suddenly exploded from his sword.
Boom!
Noah’s frozen blade cracked under the impact. His entire body was blasted backward. He crashed into the trunk of a massive tree.
Boom!
The tree shook violently.
"Ghk!"
Blood spilled from the corner of Noah’s mouth.
Before he could recover from it, Xavier was already in front of him.
He was too fast.
Noah instinctively raised his sword.
Clang!
Another heavy strike slammed into it. His knees bent under the overwhelming pressure. The ground beneath his boots fractured.
Crack!
Noah gritted his teeth. ’Even with Myra’s enhancement...I’m still losing in pure strength.’
Mary pointed her wand toward Xavier. A massive crimson magic circle formed overhead.
[Blazing Meteor]
A gigantic sphere of fire roared toward the demon. The surrounding temperature rose sharply.
Xavier clicked his tongue. Without even looking back, he swung his free hand. A bolt of blue lightning burst from his palm.
Boom!!
The fireball exploded in midair. A wave of heat swept across the forest. Smoke engulfed the battlefield.
Noah immediately took advantage of the cover. More than twenty ice swords materialized around him. Their razor-sharp tips pointed directly at Xavier.
"Go!"
The weapons shot forward from every direction.
At the same time the surface beneath them turned into ice.
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Yet Xavier’s body blurred.
He weaved effortlessly between the incoming blades.
One sword after another missed by mere centimeters.
The few that reached him. Shattered beneath his lightning-covered blade.
The ice surface that was spreading over ground shattered the movement Xavier’s feet covered with lightning stomp over it.
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
Fragments of ice scattered across the forest floor.
When the last sword broke. Xavier had already reached Noah once again.
He drove his knee into Noah’s abdomen.
Boom!
"Cough!"
The air was forced out of Noah’s lungs. Blood splattered from his mouth. His body folded before being sent flying across the ground. He rolled several times before finally stopping.
His breathing became ragged.
His arms trembled.
His muscles ached from blocking so many powerful blows.
Xavier slowly walked toward him, lightning crackling around his sword.
"You’ve done well for someone beneath the Condensed Core Realm."
His smile widened.
"But this battle was decided the moment we crossed blades."
Mary attacked from behind him. She thrust her wand forward. Two magic circles appeared simultaneously before her.
One blazed crimson. The other shone with brilliant golden-white light.
[Flame Burst]
[Light Spear]
A massive fireball and a radiant spear of condensed light shot toward Xavier from opposite angles.
The demon frowned.
"Tch."
He abandoned Noah for the moment and spun around. His sword flashed.
Slash!
The fireball split into two before exploding.
Boom!!
A wave of scorching heat swept through the forest. Without pausing, Xavier swung his blade again.
Clang!
The spear of light shattered into countless glowing particles upon colliding with his lightning-covered sword.
The brilliant fragments rained across the forest like tiny stars.
"Is that all?" Xavier asked coldly.
Myra bit her lip. She knew neither spell had been powerful enough to injure him.
They had only served one purpose, it was to distract him.
Meanwhile Noah forced himself back onto his feet. His chest ached. His arms still trembled from the previous clashes. Even so, his blue eyes remained calm.
’Now.’
He slammed his palm against the frozen ground. Mana surged from his core.
The ground beneath them trembled violently.
Crack!
Crack!
Crack!
Huge spikes of solid ice burst from beneath the earth.
