Chapter 175: WRONG Chapter

We continued moving deeper into the forest after spotting the fresh tracks, and the atmosphere around us slowly became heavier with every step we took forward. The usual sounds of the forest were still there, but they felt weaker now, like even the birds and insects were paying attention to something ahead.

No one was speaking anymore, and the silence between us felt deliberate, not peaceful. Even Han Li, who normally complained about everything from walking to breathing, had completely stopped talking, and that alone made the situation feel strange.

Wu Lian no longer walked ahead with confidence. Instead, she stayed closer to Li Shan, her earlier arrogance replaced with careful, restless glances at the trees on both sides.

Her fingers stayed close to her weapon, but she did not fully draw it out, as if she was still trying to convince herself that nothing dangerous would appear. Li Shan walked in front with a serious expression, constantly scanning the ground and the surroundings for any sign of movement.

Yan Mo walked beside me in silence, his posture calm but alert, his hand resting close to his weapon while his eyes kept shifting across the forest like he was reading something only he could understand.

The deeper we went, the darker everything became. Thick branches above us blocked most of the sunlight, and the forest floor turned uneven and damp in places.

I slowed my steps slightly and checked the system map in my mind again, and the glowing marker confirmed that we were very close to our destination.

We were almost there.

Then everything stopped.

A sound came from ahead, low and heavy, followed by the sharp cracking of branches breaking under enormous weight. I immediately raised my hand to signal everyone to stop, and Li Shan reacted instantly by lowering his voice and tightening his stance.

"There is something ahead," Li Shan said quietly, his eyes fixed forward.

The entire forest seemed to fall into complete silence after that, as though even the wind had stopped moving. Then a deep growl rolled through the trees, slow and powerful, and it carried enough weight to make everyone tense immediately. Han Li’s face turned pale as she whispered in fear, "That is not a normal animal sound." Wu Lian took a small step back without realizing it, her voice dropping as she asked, "What is that thing?"

Yan Mo moved slightly in front of me without hesitation, his body shifting into a protective position as he spoke in a low and steady voice, "Stay behind me." I glanced at him and replied firmly, "I can take care of myself." He did not look at me when he answered, only saying, "I did not say you cannot, I said stay behind."

Before the argument could continue, the bushes ahead suddenly shook violently, and something massive forced its way out of the forest.

A tiger stepped into view.

But this was not a normal tiger.

Its body was larger than anything I had seen before, its muscles thick and powerful under striped fur that looked almost too dense for a normal animal. Its eyes carried a sharp, unnatural intensity, and every step it took pressed heavily into the ground as though the earth itself struggled to support its weight. Han Li froze completely at the sight of it, unable to even speak, while Wu Lian tightened her grip on her weapon with visible tension in her arms. Li Shan stepped forward immediately and called out, "Formation."

That single word triggered everyone into motion.

Yan Mo drew his weapon instantly and took position ahead of me, while Li Shan moved to the side to control the battlefield angle. Wu Lian pulled Han Li back, although Han Li was trembling so much that she could barely move on her own.

The tiger attacked without warning.

It lunged forward with terrifying speed, and the impact alone shook the ground beneath us. Li Shan rushed forward to meet it and managed to block the attack, but the force pushed him backward hard enough that he almost lost balance completely. He gritted his teeth and said through strain, "This thing is not normal." The tiger did not pause and immediately turned for another strike, moving even faster this time.

Han Li was too slow to react when it changed direction toward her, and she stumbled backward in panic as Wu Lian shouted her name. "Han Li, move!" Li Shan tried to rush in despite his position, but everything was happening too fast, and there was no clean opening to intervene.

The tiger raised its claw again, and Han Li froze completely.

"No..." she whispered in fear.

Wu Lian shouted again, "Move!"

But before the strike could land, Li Shan pushed Han Li out of the way at the last possible moment, taking the attack on his own shoulder instead. A heavy sound followed as claws struck flesh, and Li Shan let out a strained groan while staggering backward. "I am fine," he forced out through clenched teeth, even though blood was already visible.

The tiger roared again, and this time its attention shifted back toward Han Li.

Han Li shook her head in panic and whispered, "No, no, no..."

Wu Lian tried to rush forward, but the tiger was already moving again.

Then suddenly, its direction changed.

Its eyes locked onto me.

For a brief moment, everything felt strangely slow, and I realized with sharp clarity that I was its next target. I shifted my stance immediately, preparing to react, but the timing was not in my favor.

Then something grabbed me.

A strong hand pulled me sideways with force, dragging me out of the tiger’s path. My body lost balance completely, and I fell into a rolling motion with the person who had grabbed me. We hit the ground and rolled across the forest floor as dust, leaves, and broken twigs filled the air around us.

When we finally stopped, I pushed myself up immediately, my eyes sharp and alert.

"What was that?" I demanded sharply.

There was no answer at first.

Then I looked up.

A man stood in front of me.

He was dressed in black robes that blended slightly with the dim forest light, and his long hair was tied loosely into a messy ponytail with strands falling around his face. He stood between me and the tiger as if he had always been there, completely calm and completely unshaken by what was happening around him.

I narrowed my eyes immediately and asked, "Who are you?"

He did not respond.

He did not even look at me.

His attention was fixed entirely on the tiger, which had already turned toward him again.

Behind me, I could hear Li Shan shouting in pain and Wu Lian calling out Han Li’s name in panic, but everything felt distant compared to the man in front of me.

The tiger lunged again.

The man in black finally moved.

He stepped forward without hesitation, and in that instant, his speed changed everything. Steel met claw in a violent collision that sent a shockwave through the air, pushing dust and leaves outward in a wide burst.

Han Li’s voice came from behind in shock, "What is happening..."

Wu Lian stared in disbelief and muttered, "He blocked that so easily..."

Li Shan tightened his grip on his weapon despite his injury and said, "That is not an ordinary person."

The tiger roared in rage and attacked again, but the man in black met it head-on without retreating even a single step. Every movement he made was precise, controlled, and far too fast for normal human reaction. The forest around them seemed to shake with each clash as if even the air itself could not keep up.

I stood still, watching carefully, my expression tightening slightly as I finally spoke under my breath.

"...Who exactly is this man?"

The tiger struck first, claws cutting through the air with enough force to split wood. The man shifted slightly to the side, letting the strike pass him, and in the same motion his blade cut across the tiger’s front leg.

The tiger roared and pulled back, blood marking the ground.

Han Li’s voice shook. "He actually hit it..."

Wu Lian’s eyes stayed fixed on the fight. "He is not hesitating at all." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

The tiger turned again, faster this time, aiming to crush him with its weight. The man in black moved forward instead of back, closing the distance in a single step.

Li Shan called out. "Careful!"

But the man was already inside the tiger’s reach.

The moment the tiger came down, he twisted his body and struck upward. His blade cut under its jaw, forcing its head back. The impact broke its rhythm, and for the first time the tiger lost balance.

Han Li froze. "It is not moving properly..."

The tiger tried to recover, but the man did not give it space. He stepped in again and brought his blade across its neck in a clean motion.

Blood spread across the ground.

The tiger staggered, tried to lift its body again, but its strength was already fading. It made one last attempt to swing its claws, but the movement was weak and uneven.

The man shifted slightly and brought his blade down again.

The tiger collapsed.

The sound of its body hitting the ground was heavy, and everything went still.

No one spoke.

Han Li lowered her hands slowly. "It is... over."

Wu Lian exhaled once. "That ended too fast."

Li Shan tightened his grip on his weapon but did not move forward.

I stayed where I was, eyes fixed on the man in black.

He stood near the fallen tiger for a moment, then turned.

His gaze landed on me.

"You are not from here," he said.

Han Li frowned. "What does that mean?"

Wu Lian muttered, "That is not an answer."

Li Shan stepped forward slightly. "Who are you?"

The man did not respond. He lowered his blade, turned away, and walked into the trees.

"Wait," I said.

He did not stop.

Within a few steps, he was gone between the shadows of the forest.

Silence settled again.

Han Li looked around slowly. "So he just appeared, killed it, and left?"

Wu Lian shook her head. "That does not make sense."

Li Shan stared into the direction he disappeared. "He was watching us."

I looked down at the tiger’s body.

He had not stepped in for the tiger.

He had stepped in at the moment it targeted me.
