The four-winged wolf now possessed only two wings.
Countless wounds covered its body, while one enormous gash extended from its neck to its abdomen.
Then there was the silver wolf.
Michael's expression became slightly more serious.
It was still standing.
Of the four...
It appeared to be in the best condition.
Of course, "best" was relative.
A large section of silver fur on its left side had disappeared.
The flesh beneath had been burned almost completely black, and one ear was missing.
A deep wound crossed its face and continued down its chest.
Black mist still surrounded it, but compared to the terrifying ocean of darkness Michael had seen earlier...
It was pitifully thin.
However, only these four remained within the boundary of the shattered barrier.
"...Where are the others?"
The six awakeners were obviously gone, assuming they hadn't died.
Michael's perception swept across the ruined battlefield and discovered nothing.
His eyes moved toward the position where the old mage's portal had previously existed.
The disk was gone, and the portal was gone as well.
"They escaped?"
Michael's expression became thoughtful.
That was the most likely explanation.
The old mage had explicitly created an escape route before the battle began.
Perhaps the six awakeners had realized they couldn't defeat the four Epic Grade wolves without suffering unacceptable losses.
Or perhaps they had suffered serious injuries, or maybe their temporary alliance had started falling apart.
Michael had no idea, and frankly, he didn't care.
His eyes remained on the four wolves.
A smile appeared on his face.
"This is perfect."
The four Epic Grade wolves had survived.
However...
They were injured and far from their peak.
Michael couldn't have asked for a better result.
AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The silver wolf raised its head.
Its howl shook the ruined region.
The other three followed.
AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Four howls overlapped.
Despite their injuries and their exhaustion...
Their auras began rising.
Michael's expression changed slightly.
"Oh?"
The wolves weren't surrendering even after seeing the forces gathered beside him.
Not that he had expected them to.
The nearly one thousand monsters outside had already demonstrated the strange determination possessed by the creatures of this nest.
They would fight until death.
Michael's expression gradually became cold.
"Fine."
His energy stirred, and the air around Michael darkened.
His emerald eyes glowed.
[Death Ground]
Immediately...
Michael's face paled.
"...!"
He gritted his teeth.
Even though he had used Death Ground several times before, the burden of simultaneously strengthening such an enormous number of undead was still ridiculous.
But the effect remained as good as before.
The already dense aura of his undead suddenly multiplied.
Michael took a breath and pointed at the ground below.
"Bombard them."
The silver wolf's eyes contracted.
Michael had absolutely no intention of allowing four Level 100 Epic Grade monsters time to recover or display their full abilities.
The legion attacked without hesitation.
The sky changed.
Hundreds of diverse attacks illuminated the darkness.
There were countless strange abilities Michael couldn't even immediately identify.
The four wolves stared upward in shock as they watched the sky descend upon them. They wanted to teleport, but with hundreds of undead locking down the surrounding void with their collective prowess, they were left with limited options.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The world became white.
The overwhelming bombardment continued for several breaths.
The brightness became so intense that even Michael had to narrow his eyes.
Finally, he raised one hand to signal a stop.
"Stop."
The command spread through the legion, and almost instantly, the attacks ceased.
The sudden silence was deafening.
Only the distant rumbling of collapsing terrain remained.
Michael stared downward; or at least, he stared at where the ground had once been.
"..."
The area had already been destroyed beyond recognition before the bombardment.
Now it was far worse.
There was practically no ground left beneath the tower.
Only an enormous abyss stretched in every direction, its depth impossible to measure through the dense smoke and lingering energy.
At the center of all this destruction...
The tower remained standing.
Michael's eyelids twitched.
More accurately, the circular stone platform beneath the tower remained standing.
The platform floated above the abyss as though the destruction surrounding it had nothing to do with it.
Not a single crack had appeared, and the tower was exactly the same.
Immediately after, his attention quickly moved away from it.
"The wolves..."
Michael's eyes swept across the ruined landscape and found nothing.
His expression became slightly strange.
"Did they die? But why did I not receive a notification?"
He had expected them to die, believing that even Level 100 Epic Grade monsters couldn't casually survive the concentrated attacks of nearly two thousand Rank Four undead while already severely injured.
Though it would be a shame if their bodies were lost, there was no need to take more losses and face another grueling battle.
Spreading his senses wide, Michael suddenly noticed something.
"There."
Michael's gaze locked onto four locations surrounding the tower.
At first glance, there was nothing unusual.
Only fading energy.
But gradually...
Four faint silhouettes became visible.
The silhouettes were shaped like wolves.
Or more accurately...
They were the remains of the four wolves.
Their bodies had become almost transparent.
Particles of multicolored light escaped from their bodies, and countless colors mixed together.
"What is this?"
The wolves disappeared even faster.
Within seconds, their enormous bodies had completely vanished. In their place...
Four strange fragments remained.
Each was roughly the size of Michael's palm.
Color continuously flowed across their surfaces.
Michael watched silently.
"So this is why they gave no experience?"
That was his first thought.
Perhaps the four wolves weren't ordinary creatures. Maybe they had been created by the Origin Battlefield specifically to guard the tower, or perhaps their existence was directly connected to whatever was inside.
Michael didn't know, and he cautiously continued observing as the fragments floated peacefully.
Only after having an undead reach out and hold one of them for a few seconds with nothing happening did Michael let his guard down.
"Bring it," Michael commanded.
Taking the item from his undead, Michael examined the fragment.
