Chapter 492: Chapter 492: News of the Pillar of Wrath

The next morning, sunlight broke through the clouds over Celestial Imperial City.

In the dining room of the City Lord’s Mansion, John was biting into a piece of bread when his whole body suddenly shivered.

"Damn, why did it suddenly get so cold?"

John pulled his neck in and looked across the table at Jade with a little fear.

Jade did not speak. She only put down her teacup in silence. A serious look, unlike anything before, flashed through her Divine Eyes.

At the stairway, two figures walked down side by side.

Bella was dressed in white, her face calm like a still, ancient well.

Cheryl stood beside her, wearing a faint smile that was almost there and almost not. She looked just as calm, calm to a terrifying degree.

The two of them even handed each other a glass of milk as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

"Thank you."

"You’re welcome."

It was a short exchange.

But it made the air in the entire dining room freeze at once.

The atmosphere was even more terrifying than absolute zero.

Even Faye, who was gnawing on a dragon crystal nearby, silently pulled her tail back and pretended she was just an ordinary pet.

Aiden walked into the dining room. He quickly noticed that something felt strange, but he only raised an eyebrow and said nothing.

After breakfast, Aiden stood up and prepared to go outside the city to inspect the formation.

But just as he reached the front gate of the City Lord’s Mansion, a small figure flashed out like a ghost and blocked his way.

It was Rainn.

Rainn, who had received the inheritance of the Primordial Miko, was now looking at Aiden with a mischievous grin.

"City Lord, why are you in such a hurry?"

Rainn blinked as she spoke, then stuffed a slightly crumpled note into Aiden’s hand.

"Here. This is the final result of last night’s talk between my sister and that ice-cold goddess."

"City Lord, you know what this means, right?"

Rainn lowered her voice, smiling like a fox that had just stolen a fish.

Aiden frowned slightly and slowly opened the note.

On the white paper, there were only five neat but sharp-looking words:

[Who do you really like?]

A faint trace of frost law and battle witchcraft still lingered on the handwriting.

Aiden looked at those five words without any expression.

Then his long fingers pressed lightly, folding the note neatly. Still expressionless, he put it into the pocket of his coat.

After that, he stepped past Rainn and walked straight out the gate. His steps did not pause at all.

"Hey! Aiden!"

Rainn chased after him from behind, angry and anxious.

"Wait! What’s your answer? Don’t pretend you didn’t hear me!"

The morning wind blew through Celestial Imperial City.

Aiden’s tall back looked especially cold and stern under the sunlight.

Only the pocket holding the note seemed to still carry a strange trace of warmth.

Aiden had just put the note that said, "Who do you really like?" into his pocket and had not even walked out of the City Lord’s Mansion when a sharp sound tore through the air.

A streak of green sword energy ripped through the clouds and landed in front of him in an instant.

It was Jade.

Her Divine Eyes were filled with a seriousness he had never seen before. She had not even had time to fix the slightly messy edges of her clothes.

"Aiden, we have news."

Jade took a deep breath and handed him a red jade slip that was giving off violent waves of fire law.

"The missing Dawn Society leaders in the North have made a move."

"They used some kind of sacrifice ritual to open a passage to the other side of the Abyss. They have found the location of the third Primordial Pillar."

Aiden raised his eyebrows slightly. A divine light flashed in his double pupils as he sent his divine sense straight into the jade slip.

The next moment, an extremely violent scene exploded in his mind.

It was a strange world filled with endless dark red light and black smoke.

"Burning Abyss."

Aiden slowly said the two words.

According to the records in the jade slip, the Burning Abyss was located near the edge of the middle layer of the Abyss. It was a dead zone so dangerous that even King-rank races did not dare to enter it lightly.

The space there was constantly exploding at the level of laws. The extreme heat was enough to vaporize any Reclasser below Silver Rank in an instant.

Even worse, the Burning Abyss was filled with a violent fire poison that could seep into every opening and corrode the soul.

Any living being that entered that place would have their emotions magnified without limit. Their reason would be completely burned away by the heat, and in the end, they would be fully controlled by endless rage.

That place was the sealed location of the Pillar of Wrath.

"Haa..."

Aiden let out a heavy breath, and a look of decision flashed in his eyes.

"Looks like I have to make this trip."

But this time, he did not plan to go in alone.

The trial of the Pillar of Wrath was different from the Pillar of Envy.

The Pillar of Envy tested pure soul and willpower. No one else could help with that.

But the Burning Abyss was a real physical death zone. The endless law-level explosions and extreme heat were deadly threats that truly existed.

Aiden needed someone to go with him and help take some of that violent physical damage, so he could focus fully on touching and suppressing the Pillar of Wrath.

As long as the person with him did not disturb his mind during the process, it would be fine.

"I’ll go."

"I’ll go."

Just as Aiden was thinking about who to choose, two cold voices sounded behind him at almost the same time.

Aiden paused slightly and turned around.

Bella was standing at the end of the hallway. No one knew when she had arrived. Her white hair moved without wind, and ice crystals faintly formed in the space around her. She gave off the terrifying pressure of a Greater God.

On the other side, Cheryl, wearing a black-and-red short dress, also slowly walked forward. The dark aura of a battle Miko spread out like a tide, not backing down at all.

Two completely different Divine Rank waves crashed into each other in the air.

Crack!

Frost law and dark witchcraft twisted together invisibly in the void, rubbing against each other and creating thin streaks of purple lightning. Sharp popping sounds rang out.

The once spacious hallway of the City Lord’s Mansion instantly became unbearably heavy.

John, who had just walked out, sucked in a cold breath. Then, with amazing smoothness, he stepped back more than a dozen paces and pretended he was just a wall decoration.

Jade also silently looked away, a trace of helplessness flashing in her Divine Eyes.

Bella tilted her head slightly. Her beautiful eyes seemed to hold ice that had been frozen for thousands of years as she quietly looked at Cheryl.

Cheryl raised an eyebrow. A stubborn cold smile hung on her lips as she met Bella’s gaze without backing down at all.

At that moment, it felt as if all the air had been sucked out of the room. It was so quiet that even the sound of a needle dropping could be heard clearly.

Aiden stood between the two women and, for the first time in his life, felt a slight headache.

"I need someone who can stay completely rational in an extreme place like the Burning Abyss."

Aiden rubbed his temple with his long fingers and looked at the two women in front of him. Both looked calm on the surface, but there were hidden storms beneath.

"There are two of you, and two votes."

"And I can’t cast a vote."

The scene once again fell into a strange dead silence.

In the middle of this suffocating atmosphere, a small fair hand suddenly tugged at the hem of Aiden’s coat.

"Awoo-"

Faye still had half a shining dragon crystal in her mouth as she let out a muffled sound.

"How about I go with the Dragon Clan?"

The little girl patted her chest, and a faint layer of golden-red dragon power suddenly appeared around her.

It was the original pressure of a Mythic Rank Heaven-Devouring Mystic Dragon. In an instant, it scattered most of the heavy law energy in the hallway.

"The Dragon Clan has always been the master of fire. The heat in the Burning Abyss can’t even burn through our dragon scales, so the physical damage would be kept to the lowest level."

"As for staying rational?"

Faye lifted her little head proudly.

"With this empress here, if any Earth Dragon dares to go crazy, I can slap it awake with one claw. Their minds will be completely stable!"

Hearing Faye say that, the law energy around Bella and Cheryl froze at the same time.

Almost by instinct, both of them quietly let out a breath of relief in their hearts.

But in the next second, they seemed to realize what they had just done. They looked at each other coldly.

Then, as if by silent agreement, they both looked away at the same time, turning their eyes to the sides as if nothing had happened.

"Then it’s decided."

Aiden took a deep breath and made the decision at once, giving the two of them no chance to speak again.

"Faye, gather the best warriors of the Dragon Clan immediately. You will leave with me for the Burning Abyss."

"Victor, Nellie, the two of you will stay in Celestial Imperial City and help Zoey maintain the formation. We must prevent the Dawn Society from taking advantage of the situation."

"Yes!"

With Aiden’s final decision, the terrifying romantic battlefield, colder than absolute zero, finally disappeared.

Half an hour later.

In front of the huge teleportation formation in Celestial Imperial City, space twisted slightly.

Aiden stood there in a black coat, its hem snapping loudly in the strong wind. The blue light shooting up from the teleportation formation was reflected in his double pupils.

Just as he was about to step into the formation, a white streak of light silently landed beside him.

It was Bella.

She did not look around. She only quietly watched the side of Aiden’s face.

"Aiden."

Bella’s voice was still cold, but there was a rare seriousness in it.

Aiden stopped and turned to look at her.

"What is it?"

"Do you know what makes the Burning Abyss most different from the Pillar of Envy?"

Aiden paused for a moment, then shook his head.

Bella took a deep breath. Her cold voice clearly reached his ears through the roar of the teleportation formation.

"Envy asks you to let go of the pride in your heart and admit that others are strong."

"But Wrath is the exact opposite."

At that moment, the wind and snow around Bella seemed to freeze in place. A seriousness Aiden had never seen before flashed in her beautiful eyes.

"Wrath asks you to accept..."

"That your anger is justified."
