Chapter 13: Chapter 13: You Love Poaching, Don’t You? Then Do It in Front of Caleb Lowell

Alvin Lancaster said, "Actually, it’s mostly my fault. If I hadn’t broken a bone, none of this would have happened. I’m sorry. Please don’t be angry anymore, okay?"

Mama Knight suddenly felt a tightness in her chest.

On the surface, it seemed like everyone was trying to placate the young miss, but it was obvious they were all siding with Mrs. Everett.

It was as if, without even realizing it, they had all pushed the young miss to the opposing side.

She looked at Jane Lancaster worriedly. "Miss Jane..."

Jane Lancaster’s gaze slowly swept over everyone present. Alvin Lancaster unconsciously tensed up.

He knew that while his sister could be domineering, she was very careful about maintaining her image. She wouldn’t make an ugly scene in public, especially with Caleb Lowell present.

He just figured Mrs. Everett would have to put up with it for now, and he’d have to humble himself later to quell his sister’s anger.

Sure enough, Jane Lancaster spoke.

"Zion, you were saving someone. How could that be your fault? And Second Brother, you broke a bone. That’s not your fault either."

"As for Mrs. Everett..." A slight smile touched Jane Lancaster’s lips. "You were worried about Second Brother, so you had no choice but to trouble Zion. Of course, that’s not your fault either."

’As expected of my dear, sweet second brother. He’s a real pro at playing the victim and laying on the guilt trips.’

’You guessed right. With Caleb Lowell here, there’s no way I’m going to cause a scene.’

’Sigh, I’m just so generous, I’ve even come up with your excuses for you.’

’But you all aren’t so generous to me. Ganging up to apologize at my door just confirms that I’m a petty and cruel person who takes her anger out on the staff because her fiancé saved another woman, doesn’t it?’

Caleb Lowell’s expression flickered. "Jay..."

He subconsciously reached for Jane Lancaster’s hand, but she had already turned and walked into the house.

Caleb Lowell pulled back his empty hand and quickly followed her.

Alvin Lancaster breathed a sigh of relief. That was finally over.

He gave Mrs. Everett a reassuring look, and his gaze unexpectedly fell upon the crowd.

A servant mouthed the words "drop dead" in the direction Jane Lancaster had gone, and the people next to her snickered with a silent, mutual understanding.

Alvin Lancaster’s heart clenched. "You..."

The servants looked over, their faces a mask of confusion.

"Everyone is so happy that Miss Jane is back," Mrs. Everett said with a smile, following his gaze.

Alvin Lancaster composed himself.

These were all long-time servants of the Lancaster Family. When Jay had her accident back then, everyone had been heartbroken for a long time.

During holidays, they would even go with Mrs. Everett to the temple to burn incense, praying for the Bodhisattva to watch over Jay and let her wake up soon.

’How could they curse Jay? Impossible. I must have seen it wrong.’

The food was quickly served.

The table was filled with all of Jane Lancaster’s favorite dishes.

Alvin Lancaster was just about to grab a bowl when Caleb Lowell had already ladled a bowl of fish ball soup and placed it in front of Jane Lancaster.

"Jay, try it! It’s delicious," Alvin Lancaster said quickly.

Jane Lancaster looked at the fish ball soup before her and gave a silent smile.

She lifted a spoonful of the fish ball soup to Caleb Lowell’s lips, her voice sickeningly sweet. "Zion, open wide~"

’What is my sister doing? This is so ridiculously fake!’ Alvin Lancaster thought, goosebumps rising all over his skin.

Caleb Lowell was even more embarrassed. He had a cold personality and wasn’t used to public displays of affection, and besides, Jane Lancaster was being... so undignified.

"Jay, there are people here." He dodged the spoon, but immediately felt it was the wrong move, afraid she would get the wrong idea.

Jane Lancaster met his gaze, her smile growing even sweeter.

’That’s right, be disgusted. I’m going to gross you all out until you can’t take it anymore~’

’You think you’re the only ones who can lay guilt trips? I can do it too~~’

"Just one bite, please? Try Mrs. Everett’s cooking~" She paused, sighed, and then asked with sudden seriousness, "Zion, are you still angry with Mrs. Everett?"

Alvin Lancaster choked.

"Second Brother, Mrs. Everett worked so hard on this fish ball soup. Even if you’re upset with her, you shouldn’t spit it out," Jane Lancaster said, her gaze drifting toward him.

’Hehe, I’ve got it now. If I have to maintain my image as a dignified and generous lady, don’t you all have to maintain your image of being in love with me?’

’Since you’re supposed to love me to death, then you’ll definitely defend me steadfastly, just like Father would, right?’

’I’ve put you on such a high pedestal. You wouldn’t dare deny it, would you?’

Alvin Lancaster’s neck went stiff. For a moment, he didn’t even dare to look his sister in the eye.

Caleb Lowell slowly clenched his fists. "Jay, I..."

"Don’t be angry anymore. It’s not like Mrs. Everett neglected me on purpose," Jane Lancaster said. "Just forgive her, please?"

Mrs. Everett was stunned by Jane Lancaster’s audacity. ’She’s actually claiming Young Master Lowell and Young Master Lancaster are on her side?’

’The nerve!’

But after waiting for a long time and seeing that neither of the men spoke, she couldn’t help but feel her heart sink.

Caleb Lowell suddenly took Jane Lancaster’s hand, leaned in, and ate the fish ball.

The action was so intimate that Jane Lancaster froze.

"Looks like I’ve come at a bad time," a teasing voice suddenly remarked.

Jane Lancaster’s eyes lit up.

’Your timing is perfect! Don’t you just love trying to steal someone’s girl? Let’s see you try it right in front of Caleb Lowell!’

Caleb Lowell’s face turned cold as he looked up at the uninvited guest.

Only then did a servant announce, "Young Master Sterling and Special Assistant Cole have arrived."

Calvin Cole didn’t come over. He just stood outside the dining room, gave a wave from a distance, and then went to wait in the living room.

Jasper Sterling, however, didn’t take the hint and leave. The young man spoke, seeming a bit shy yet maintaining his etiquette. "I’m terribly sorry, I haven’t had lunch yet, so..."

A minute later, Jasper Sterling was seated across from Jane Lancaster.

The cook brought him a bowl and chopsticks and enthusiastically ladled him a bowl of seafood soup.

Jasper Sterling’s upbringing and manners were excellent. He lowered his eyes to drink his seafood soup. His refined features had a hint of mixed heritage, and yet his aura was one of noble detachment, deterring anyone from being presumptuous.

Jane Lancaster watched as the normally stone-faced cook beamed with delight, and while she was shocked, she wasn’t surprised.

’This guy really can fit in anywhere, can’t he?’

Alvin Lancaster cleared his throat. "Young Master Sterling, you’re quite the rare guest..."

’Are our two families really on such good terms that we can just drop by each other’s houses?’ he thought, his mind still a bit fuzzy.

’When did this happen? How come I didn’t know?!’

Jasper Sterling replied, "Young Master Lancaster, you’re too kind. Our families have known each other for generations, and we do business together. Besides, Julian even saved me when we were kids. We should visit each other more often."

Alvin Lancaster had a moment of realization. "Ah, is that so? I see."

’That explains it! My older brother saved Jasper Sterling, so it’s only natural that he’d want to get closer to our family!’

’What do you mean, he saved you? I don’t remember that.’

Jane Lancaster, however, was silently roasting him in her mind as she sifted through her memories.

’Don’t tell me it was that time when we were seven, and you were playing by the fountain with a few other kids when a ground light suddenly exploded and injured three of them?’

’What do you mean, Julian Lancaster saved you? Your position was all part of your design. Julian should be thanking you for not getting him killed!’

Alvin Lancaster was dumbfounded by what he was hearing. His chopsticks froze mid-air, his head spinning from the massive influx of information.

’Part of a design? Could it be...?’ He secretly glanced at Jasper Sterling.

The young man seemed completely oblivious, his posture perfect, his demure smile making him look exceptionally noble and bright.

’No, no, no, impossible!’ Alvin Lancaster quickly rejected the terrifying thought.

’My sister must have misunderstood. There’s no way Jasper Sterling would do something like that!’

Jane Lancaster suddenly looked up. "Hey, why has everyone stopped eating?"
