Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Transmigrating as the Vicious Dark Moonlight

"Tragic. Absolutely tragic!"

This was Jane Lancaster’s first thought after transmigrating into the book.

The original owner of this body was also named Jane Lancaster. She was the eldest daughter of the prestigious Lancaster Family—gentle, beautiful, poised, and elegant, the very image of a "white moonlight," an unattainable first love.

Three years ago, during a kidnapping, she had bravely saved someone, only to be gravely injured and fall into a coma herself.

Four months ago, amidst everyone’s eager anticipation, she woke up.

Logically, her life should have been a path of roses, smooth sailing all the way.

Unfortunately, she was just the novel’s wicked "black moonlight."

The female lead was Luna Morgan, the young woman she had saved. Luna was resilient, kind, and grateful, yet she was misunderstood and hurt by everyone, living a miserable life at the start.

The people who deeply loved Jane Lancaster had all directed their anger toward Luna Morgan, hating and despising her. For three years, they relentlessly tormented and made life difficult for her.

After a series of entanglements, they soon discovered that there was more to the kidnapping than met the eye. The original Jane was, in fact, the true culprit who had caused the incident!

They also found out that Luna Morgan knew the truth but chose to hide it all out of gratitude, shouldering the blame alone.

In a sudden moment of realization, they were all overcome with regret and resolved to spoil Luna rotten!

As the female lead’s antagonist, the original Jane naturally couldn’t possess any virtuous qualities.

She appeared gentle and generous on the surface, but in reality, she was narrow-minded and a bad seed to the core.

After discovering that her friends, three older brothers, and fiancé were all siding with Luna Morgan, she began to target Luna obsessively, committing all sorts of evil deeds.

The once gentle, elegant, and resolute Miss Lancaster eventually became a twisted version of her former self, despised by everyone.

Her friends avoided her like the plague. Her three brothers, hating her for her deceit and malice, cut all ties with her.

Even her fiancé, who had loved her so deeply, came to regret his misplaced affection and fell irrevocably in love with Luna Morgan.

In the end, her disgraceful acts were exposed. Utterly ruined, she was hit by a car and killed on a midnight street.

When the kind-hearted female lead heard the news, she sighed and said, "I never thought Miss Lancaster was that kind of person."

Jane Lancaster had also sighed and commented, "No matter what kind of person Miss Lancaster was, she was still your savior. The one who took the knife for you, acted as your blood bank, and sent you on your meteoric rise."

She thought her words had been quite restrained.

But she hadn’t expected to be immediately bombarded with furious insults from the female lead’s fans!

Those fans didn’t just curse her entire family tree for eighteen generations; they also wished for her to become best friends with the villainess!

Jane Lancaster had replied happily: "That would be wonderful! I’d be so lucky to have a best friend who would risk her life to save me when danger strikes!"

And then she transmigrated into the book and was inexplicably bound to a "Villainess System."

But her wish was clearly to be the best friend, so why did she become the villainess herself?

Jane Lancaster flopped onto the bed and decided to give up. "You guys force people into this? Sorry, I choose self-destruction."

’In the novel, even the pose for my funeral procession was already planned out. What’s the point of struggling?’

System: [This system never forces a binding. It was entirely based on your personal choice. A reminder: as long as you max out everyone’s Dislike meter, you can retire with a 30 billion dollar bonus.]

"How much?!" Jane Lancaster jolted upright as if from her deathbed.

Then it must have been her own choice, no doubt about it. After all, who could pass up 30 billion!

"Maxing out the Dislike meter, right? That’s easy! All I have to do is constantly stir up trouble around the female lead!" Jane Lancaster quickly accepted her new role.

"By the way, where is the female lead right now?"

Originally, Luna Morgan had been living with the Lancaster Family.

Although the original Jane had been discharged from the hospital, she still needed physical therapy. Luna had specifically learned traditional Chinese massage and was living at the Lancaster estate to help her with her recovery every day.

Now that the original Jane could move freely, she no longer needed Luna.

And so, three days ago, Luna Morgan had moved out of the Lancaster home in the pouring rain.

’If Luna Morgan doesn’t show up, how am I supposed to stir up trouble?’

Speak of the devil. The housekeeper, Mama Knight, pushed the door open. "Miss, Luna Morgan is here."

Jane Lancaster’s eyes lit up. "Perfect! I’ll be right down!"

* * *

In the living room, Luna Morgan stood ramrod straight, her gaze resolute and stubborn.

Spring was a rainy season. One side of her body was soaked, and there was a noticeable scrape on her arm. A large bamboo basket sat by her feet.

Her large, bright, almond-shaped eyes looked up at the person before her. "Mr. Lowell, where is Miss Lancaster? She mentioned the other day that she wanted to eat bamboo shoots, so I went to Westerlyn specifically to dig these up."

Mr. Lowell—Caleb Lowell—was the aforementioned fiancé, a man from a prestigious family who was deeply in love with the original Jane, his favorability score still holding at 95%.

The night of the kidnapping three years ago happened to be Caleb Lowell’s birthday.

He had gone to pick up the original Jane from school, only to witness the heart-shattering moment she fell from an upper floor to save Luna Morgan.

From that day on, he had hated Luna Morgan to his very core.

His gaze swept over the scrape on Luna’s arm, his expression icy.

"Who are you trying to put on this pathetic act for?"

Luna Morgan’s eyes widened in disbelief. "Mr. Lowell, you’ve misunderstood me..."

Beside them, Alvin Lancaster grew anxious. "Caleb, how can you say that to Luna? She rolled down a hillside and nearly died just to dig up bamboo shoots for Jay!"

Caleb’s gaze turned even colder. "You think Jay gives a damn about this? Get out!"

Luna Morgan fought back tears. "Fine, I’ll leave right now."

She bent over to pick up the bamboo basket but was suddenly struck by a wave of dizziness.

"Luna!" Alvin Lancaster’s heart skipped a beat, and he rushed to support her.

But someone else was faster, catching Luna Morgan’s body in one swift motion.

"I wouldn’t want to trouble you, Mr. Lowell..." Luna weakly opened her eyes, swaying as she tried to stand.

She was in terrible shape; anyone who saw her would have felt a pang of pity.

But Caleb Lowell was heartless, his tone blunt. "You think I want to get involved with you? If you’re going to faint, get out and do it somewhere else."

He tried to push Luna away, but a button on his shirt snagged in her hair.

For a moment, their figures were entangled, a messy overlap.

Jane Lancaster stood on the stairs, watching with great relish.

’Isn’t this just like their tangled fate?’

Hearing her voice, Alvin Lancaster started. "Jay, you’re awake?"

He walked over with a concerned look and blocked her view.

His sister appeared gentle and generous, but she was actually possessive and held grudges. He was worried she would get the wrong idea.

’So this is "my" rich playboy second brother?’

Jane Lancaster looked at the 54% favorability score... below 60% meant his Dislike meter would be easy to raise. A starter pack of XP, practically!

’He’s worried I’ll get jealous and target Luna Morgan? Brilliant! A blind man could see the point!’

’Fifty-four, sounds like "I’ll die?" Yup, that’s right. You’ll soon go crazy from unrequited love, develop a mental illness, and start spending Joss Paper.’

Alvin Lancaster froze, allowing Jane Lancaster to walk past him.

When Caleb Lowell saw Jane Lancaster, his expression changed slightly. "Jay? What are you doing here?"

He pushed Luna Morgan away without hesitation and walked toward Jane.

Jane noticed that a strand of Luna’s hair had been torn out. Her eyes were red with pain, but she endured it without a sound.

The young woman stood there, looking much thinner than she had three years ago, yet she exuded an unyielding resilience.

It was as if nothing could ever break her.

In truth, Luna Morgan had suffered a great deal over the past three years.

After the incident, Jane Lancaster had been on the brink of death, and the other two girls involved were also covered in blood. Only Luna Morgan had "appeared" to be completely unscathed.

She was swarmed by public condemnation, not to mention nearly drowned by the hatred from the Lancaster Family and Caleb Lowell.

Yet, Luna Morgan had endured it all.

Not only that, despite her terrible circumstances, she insisted on doing good deeds, secretly helping many people.

This had allowed her to accumulate sufficient moral capital.

With the female lead’s halo, she was about to hit rock bottom and bounce right back.

The original owner of this body, on the other hand, was the opposite. If she had never woken up, everyone would have pitied and sympathized with her, willing to place her upon a high pedestal and worship her.

But the moment she woke up and appeared before them as a living, breathing person, she became somewhat unlikable.

After all, the hero in people’s fantasies is selfless and flawless, whereas she had a long list of dark secrets to her name.

Falling from grace was only a matter of time.
