Chapter 45: Chapter 36: Daily Life in the Girls’ Dorm
Demon Dance University.
Girls’ Dorm, Room 404.
Aina, clad in a White Rabbit t-shirt and peach-colored shorts, knelt on the bed. Her fair, long legs were tucked beneath her as she braced her slender arms on either side of Liu Jinyu, leaning in close to Jinyu’s sweet and shy face.
"So... are you two official now?"
"I... Ugh, you guys are so annoying..." Liu Jinyu pushed Aina away. "It’s not that fast. We’re not official. We just have feelings for each other right now."
Aina’s big, expressive eyes blinked in confusion. Her pink lips parted as she said, "Didn’t you send him that single-character puzzle asking how many sweethearts he has? And didn’t he reply with another character that means ’You’re the only one in my heart’? And you’re *still* not official?"
Speechless, Liu Jinyu crossed her arms. "You call that being official? Please, enlighten me, Miss Aina."
"Well, I wouldn’t know, that’s why I’m asking you!" Aina scratched her head. She was completely clueless when it came to romance.
Xiao Wanqing, who was doing yoga on her bed, chimed in. "That just means they have mutual feelings and the potential to start dating. It doesn’t mean they’re officially together. Got it, you idiot?"
"It’s so complicated! I don’t get any of this. It’s giving me a headache. You just focus on winning Su Ran over. I’m gonna go find my hubby, Yiren."
Aina got off the bed, slipped on her slippers, and tiptoed to the bathroom door. Pushing it open with a lecherous grin, she cooed, "My dear lady, does your husband need to help you scrub that Phoenix on your back?"
"Scrub the front instead."
"PFFT~"
"Haha~"
Another new day began with the daily antics of the ’goofball couple,’ Aina and Xie Yiren.
In reality, among their group of friends, only Liu Jinyu had truly fallen for Su Ran. They were currently in that "more than friends, less than lovers" stage.
As for the other three girls, their feelings for Su Ran hadn’t evolved past seeing him as one of the guys—a buddy they could joke around with.
It wasn’t like they were short on handsome guys in their lives.
"Liu Jinyu, we all promised not to get boyfriends in college, but you just had to go and fall for someone. You traitor!"
Xie Yiren’s voice echoed from the bathroom.
The other three had already tacitly accepted Su Ran as Liu Jinyu’s ’husband.’ They could joke about it and tease Jinyu, but they all knew deep down: you don’t steal your best friend’s man.
Of course, Su Ran couldn’t cross any lines either, or their friend group would surely implode. After all, when you have a talented man and beautiful women, feelings can easily develop between young people. As long as the three girls and Su Ran maintained a proper distance, there wouldn’t be a problem.
Liu Jinyu rested her chin in her hands, lost in thought about her and Su Ran.
Xiao Wanqing was analyzing their potential as a couple.
"Hmm, your chances are pretty high. Su Ran is a great guy in all aspects. If you become his girlfriend, a lot of girls will be jealous. But there is one thing I think isn’t so great. Uh... don’t get mad when I say it."
"Okay, I promise I won’t get mad."
Liu Jinyu sat cross-legged, hugging a pillow to her chest, and looked seriously at Xiao Wanqing, their resident wise big sister.
Girls will be girls; they always loved talking about relationships in private.
"It’s just... uh..."
Xiao Wanqing was the most mature of the four. Liu Jinyu’s affection for Su Ran was already off the charts, so Wanqing had to choose her words carefully. Pointing out the ’bad side’ of a best friend’s crush was a delicate matter. One wrong word could damage their friendship, and she could easily be labeled as someone who talks behind people’s backs.
"You’re hemming and hawing. Just spit it out!"
"Alright, I’ll say it. I think Su Ran is great in every way, except his lifestyle is too... zen-like. He seems docile, but he’s actually a wild horse. He doesn’t like being tied down. He wants to run free on the great plains, living that unrestrained life he yearns for. Do you know what I mean?"
"I know what you mean..."
Liu Jinyu nodded and began to voice her thoughts.
"I knew Su Ran was that kind of person from the day I first met him at Jiuxi Lake."
"One man, one RV, by the lake, with coffee and king crab... He likes to quietly enjoy his solitary life. Plus, he never takes pictures of the places he’s been. I asked him why not, wasn’t it worth remembering? He said just being there was enough, and that photos would only take up storage space and he’d never look at them anyway."
"Ugh... I knew back then that a guy like Su Ran is poison. To be handled with care."
"And I know you’re worried that if Su Ran and I start dating, he’ll just keep living his life the same way and won’t consider my feelings, right?"
At this, Liu Jinyu broke into a brilliant smile.
"The thing is, I like him. If he likes me, then we can date. I never thought about making Su Ran change for me. As long as he has me in his heart and likes me, and I have him in my heart and like him... over time, two people will naturally learn to accept each other, right?"
Xiao Wanqing could see it clearly now. Liu Jinyu was truly in love with Su Ran.
"Alright, as long as you’ve thought it through."
"Love you, Wanqing~ Mwah~"
"Hmph~"
She turned away, humming a song as she resumed her yoga practice.
"I’ve fallen in love with a wild horse, but my home has no grasslands~"
To be honest, Xiao Wanqing had also gotten to know Su Ran well and considered him a good friend. But when compared to her best friend, Liu Jinyu, she would always stand by Jinyu’s side without hesitation.
A true best friend always takes her friend’s side. She watches the friend’s ’him’ with the eyes of a referee. When ’he’ and ’she’ are playing a fair game, the referee just observes. But if ’he’ breaks the rules, the referee will definitely intervene.
There was no other reason. It was all for her best friend’s happiness.
With a best friend like that, what more could one ask for?
There was a reason the four of them were as close as sisters: their personalities complemented each other perfectly.
Xiao Wanqing, the girl from Shanghai, had a queenly air and was in charge of managing the big picture.
Liu Jinyu, the girl from Chongqing, was the cool, mature type who couldn’t live without spicy food. Sensible and understanding, she was responsible for soothing the other three’s emotions, especially during that time of the month.
Aina, the girl from the Western Regions, was the energetic type. A talented singer and dancer, she was an adorable goofball whose mouth ran like a Gatling gun from morning till night. She was the one who kept the group’s spirits high.
Xie Yiren, the girl from Miaojiang, was the baby-faced, buxom type. She bore a divine Phoenix that appeared with heat and was the designated caretaker of the group.
Don’t ask if she knows how to cast Gu curses. She’ll just shake her head and say, "I can’t cast Gu curses. The village party secretary would get angry if he found out."
They all had vastly different styles and top-tier looks, but more importantly, each of them had an interesting soul.
BEEP BEEP BEEP~
A message came in from Su Ran. Liu Jinyu quickly grabbed her phone, and the corner of her mouth twitched as she read it.
Xiao Wanqing: "What’s wrong?"
Liu Jinyu: "He sent me a Pinduoduo link asking me to help ’slash’ the price. He says he’s only 0.1 yuan away from cashing out."
PFFT~
Xiao Wanqing clutched her sides, laughing so hard she almost bent over.
"Oh my god, that Su Ran is really a breath of fresh air. He’s staying in a presidential suite that costs tens of thousands, eating authentic Imperial Cuisine, and now he’s falling for a scam like this and asking you to help him slash a price? I’ve got to hand it to this guy."
Liu Jinyu found it amusing too. ’That darn Ranran.’ She smiled and helped Su Ran with the price slash, texting back: [Done. Are you for real?]’
Su Ran: [Sigh. It’s not for me. Aunt Wang from my village asked for my help.]
Liu Jinyu: [Oh, I see. So what are you up to right now?]
Su Ran: [Looking for rocks.]
Liu Jinyu: [Rocks? What do you mean?]
Su Ran: [I bought some goldfish and I’m raising them. I’m about to go to the mountain behind the village to find some nice rocks to put in the tank.]
Xiao Wanqing snatched the phone and teased: [Su Ran, I see what you’re doing. Raising ’Jinyu’ the goldfish so you can admire Liu Jinyu all by yourself, right?]
Su Ran: [In that case, I’ll just release the goldfish.]
Liu Jinyu grabbed the phone back: [Raise them! You better take good care of them! Raise them well, and don’t you dare let them die!]
Xiao Wanqing snatched the phone again: [Su Ran, what kind of goldfish are you raising?]
Su Ran: [Black Widow goldfish.]
PFFT~
Xiao Wanqing fell over laughing. "Black Widow Jinyu, hahaha..."
Liu Jinyu grabbed her phone, typing with adorable fierceness: [Hah! You darn Ranran, are you disobeying me already?]
Time always seemed to slip away during these small, everyday moments between young men and women.
A short while later, the chat ended.
Once a woman falls, her emotions are easily swayed by the other person, gloomy one moment and sunny the next.
Liu Jinyu was now in a great mood, fully revived.
She put down her phone, stretched lazily, got out of bed, and pulled off her T-shirt. "Wanqing, I’m going to practice dancing for a bit. Are you coming?"
"You’re going to practice for your crush. I don’t have a crush, so I’m not going."
"Haha, alright. I’m heading out then."
"By the way, does Su Ran know what kind of dance you do?"
"I haven’t told him yet."
"Oh."
Liu Jinyu changed into a black, form-fitting dance outfit that showcased her figure perfectly. She then left for the General Studies Building, fifth floor, Gymnastics Room 13, to practice.
Xiao Wanqing roared towards the bathroom, "What are you two doing in there?!"
"Ahh~"
"What the—Aina, what are you ’ah-ing’ about?!"
