Chapter 36: Chapter 28: The Inexplicably Confident Cousin
Su Ran gently brushed the messy strands of hair from her cheek and whispered, "Just tell me what you want. How am I supposed to know if you don’t say it?"
His question was a bit leading, a little mischievous.
But deep down, girls liked guys who were serious about important things but a little naughty when it came to everything else.
"I... I..." Liu Jinyu bit her lip, giving him a playfully resentful look. "I... You’re terrible~"
"Oh... Well, if you’re not going to say it, I’m leaving."
"Wait..." Liu Jinyu grabbed him again, mustering her courage, only to hesitate once more.
"For fuck’s sake!?"
Xiao Wanqing, who was lying next to them, couldn’t take it anymore. She shot upright, her face a mask of righteous fury.
"I’m a whole-ass person lying right here, am I invisible to you?"
Su Ran let out a snort, unable to suppress a wicked laugh.
Liu Jinyu’s face flushed crimson. She pinched Su Ran’s hand hard, then retorted at Xiao Wanqing in embarrassment, "What are you talking about? I never said I wanted *that*. I was just trying to tell Su Ran I want to be his girlfriend! Got it, you idiot?"
"Oh... Just don’t do *it* in front of me. I’m tired. G’night."
Xiao Wanqing closed her eyes, flopped back onto the bed, and went back to sleep.
’Just sex, no love? That wouldn’t do.’
Su Ran preferred to make love.
"So... Liu Jinyu, you want to be my girlfriend?"
"Ahem, well... I..."
Overwhelmed with embarrassment, Liu Jinyu buried her head like an ostrich, pulling the covers up to hide herself completely.
"I don’t know! I was just talking nonsense! You should go. I’m going to sleep now."
Su Ran smiled at the lump under the covers. ’This supposedly cool and mature Liu Jinyu was actually pretty cute.’
"Get some sleep. We’ll talk when you wake up."
"Talk?"
Liu Jinyu poked her head out from under the covers.
"Talk about what?"
"About becoming boyfriend and girlfriend."
"Like, a formal discussion?"
"Yes. A serious, formal discussion."
"Oh~ Okay, then I’ll take a nap to build up my strength for our bilateral friendly negotiations."
"Sounds good. Bye."
Closing the bedroom door, he glanced between the two bedrooms. ’Four girls. It gives a man a real sense of accomplishment.’
Su Ran used the house phone to call Yasuo. "Yasuo, lunch is finished. Could you please send a couple of housekeepers up to clean the dining room?"
"Of course. Is there anything else you require?"
"That’s all."
He hung up and waited two minutes for the two housekeepers to come up and clean the suite. Su Ran went to the bathroom to soak in the large tub. He needed to calm his racing heart after being teased and turned on by four drunk girls.
To be honest, he was attracted to all four of them. Any normal man would be interested in beautiful women with perfect figures and faces. But Su Ran knew the difference between what he could and couldn’t do.
He had at least that much self-control.
As for Liu Jinyu, Su Ran was definitely attracted to her. He wouldn’t refuse or reject the idea of taking things further.
’After all, I’ve graduated high school and I’m eighteen. This is the perfect age to fall in love and make life more fulfilling.’
’But I’ve never been in a relationship before. What if I get tired of it after a while?’
It was just like Lin Che had said. ’A guy like Su Ran is decisive in everything he does. He was in a band for two or three years, and when he said he was done, he was done. Not a single trace of attachment. His relationships are probably the same. He won’t settle for less. He’ll love with passion, and he’ll make a clean break. He’s a ruthless one!’
’I’ve never been in a relationship, so I wouldn’t know.’
’I’ll deal with that later.’
Rubbing his wet hair with a towel, he walked out of the bathroom. The housekeepers had already finished cleaning the dining room.
Yasuo: "Mr. Su, the dining room has been cleaned. Do you have any further instructions?"
Su Ran: "I won’t be returning to the hotel for dinner tonight. When my friends wake up, just put whatever they want to eat on my account."
Yasuo: "Understood."
Su Ran went into the walk-in closet to change his clothes. Then he closed the door to the presidential suite and left the hotel, riding down with Yasuo.
Yasuo was a little stunned. ’He spends tens of thousands to get four gorgeous girls drunk, and then he just walks away without a second glance. What a savage.’
What else was he supposed to do? It’s not like Su Ran was going to do something illegal, was he?
RING RING RING...
Su Ran had just bought some fruit and was about to head to his uncle’s house when he got a call from an unknown number.
He answered.
Su Ran: "Hello?"
Zhou Bailin: "Where are you? It’s Zhou Bailin."
Su Ran: "Oh, hey, Cousin. I’m over by the Bund."
Zhou Bailin: "Hanging out at the Bund?"
Su Ran: "Yeah, I was just getting ready to head to your place."
Zhou Bailin: "My grandpa said my place is too small for him to show off his cooking skills, so we’re doing it at the old family home instead. I’ll add you on WeChat. Send me your location, and I’ll come get you."
’A house in Shanghai worth over twenty million yuan, and he’s complaining it’s too small. People from outside the city can’t even imagine that. So typically Shanghai.’
Su Ran: "No need. Just tell me the address, I can grab a cab."
Zhou Bailin: "My dad would kill me. Don’t argue. I’m hanging up, add me."
After hanging up, he accepted the friend request and sent his location.
Ten minutes later, a black Porsche 718 sports car, worth around six or seven hundred thousand yuan, pulled up in front of Su Ran. The window rolled down, revealing Zhou Bailin, who was sporting a ’player’ tinfoil perm, sizing Su Ran up.
"You Su Ran?"
"Yeah. You’re my cousin?"
"Whoa, look at you, all grown up into a handsome young man. Get in, we can talk on the way."
Su Ran opened the passenger door and hopped in. The 718 didn’t have a back seat, so he had to hold the gift he’d bought in his lap.
"You shouldn’t have. You could have just come, no need to bring a gift."
"It’s the right thing to do."
"So, you got a girlfriend yet?"
"Nope."
"Ah."
That was the end of that. Zhou Bailin had only asked casually; he wasn’t actually interested.
There’s a saying: "Close in the first generation, distant in the second, strangers by the third."
Su Ran and Zhou Bailin were second-generation cousins. But one had grown up in Shanghai and the other in Ninghai. So while they were relatives, they had never really interacted and weren’t what you would call friends.
Zhou Bailin was a busy man. As he drove, his phone buzzed incessantly with WeChat notifications. Su Ran glanced over a few times and saw they were all voice messages from girls.
Zhou Bailin handled his chats with them effortlessly. He was clearly a high-level player.
Su Ran chuckled. "You seem to know a lot of girls, Cousin."
Zhou Bailin said confidently, "They’re all your future cousins-in-law."
Su Ran: "..."
’Definitely a veteran player.’
BEEP BEEP BEEP...
A user named [EmperorShotsOnU] sent a voice message: "[Bailin, I asked around for you. It’s a no-go. Time to move on to another girl.]"
Zhou Bailin: "[What do you mean, ’no-go’? There’s no girl that I, Zhou Bailin, can’t get if I want her.]"
Su Ran: "..."
’My cousin’s pretty confident.’
’With just a 718?’
[EmperorShotsOnU]: "[Sigh, you know as well as I do that those four are our school’s ’Four Young Actresses.’ Especially the one you’ve got your eye on, Aina. Forget all the guys at school, tons of guys from outside are after her too, and none of them have gotten anywhere.]"
’Aina?’
Su Ran froze. ’What’s going on? My cousin is chasing Aina?’
Su Ran turned and glanced out the window at the Maoyue Hotel. ’And Aina is currently asleep in my bed.’
Zhou Bailin, with his baffling confidence, replied: "[Shit. So what if other guys can’t get her? You think I can’t? I’m telling you, once I make my move, I’ll have Aina in a week, guaranteed.]"
Su Ran: "..."
