Chapter 24: Chapter 19: PDD’s Primordial Power

He also noticed the Patek Philippe on Su Ran’s wrist, but given his outfit, he didn’t even need to guess—it had to be a knockoff.

’And even if it were real, so what? Could it compare to mine, which is worth over a million?’

"That’s a nice watch you have there. May I take a look?"

Liu Hao said, setting down his wine glass. He wanted to see if it was real or fake.

"Here."

Without a second thought, Su Ran took off the watch and handed it to Liu Hao.

’You want to see it, I’ll let you. Simple as that.’

But the fact that he took it off and handed it over without a moment’s hesitation left Liu Hao completely baffled.

Logically, if it were a fake watch, he should have been hesitant and embarrassed to take it off.

If it were real, he would have taken it off very carefully, afraid of damaging it.

’So, what does that make it?’

Liu Hao examined it cautiously. To be honest, with watches, it was genuinely difficult to distinguish a high-quality replica from the real deal. You’d need to get it authenticated at an official boutique.

Over on the side, Liu Jinyu noticed Zhao Yang’s friend was doubting Su Ran’s Patek Philippe, which made her a little uncomfortable. She thought for a moment, then made a soft "Oh!" and pulled Gao Lu’s hand. "Lulu, I didn’t even prepare a gift for your birthday. How about this, I’ll give you a little something. Don’t you go looking down on it, okay?"

"What is it?" Gao Lu’s curiosity was piqued.

Liu Jinyu took a small box from her bag, which had a Patek Philippe logo on it, and stuffed it into Gao Lu’s hand.

"This afternoon when Su Ran went to buy his watch, the client manager at Yuan Mansion gave him this fountain pen as a gift. You love to write, don’t you? This is perfect for you."

"Thankies~ I love you to death, muah~ And thanks to Su Ran, too."

"It was Jinyu who gave it to you. Why are you thanking me?"

"Well, I just wanted to thank you two as a coup—MMMPH~"

With lightning reflexes, Liu Jinyu clapped a hand over her mouth and whispered a warning in her ear, "You silly girl, still trying to run your mouth? You little idiot."

At this point, Liu Hao didn’t need to inspect it any further. They’d been to Yuan Mansion, they had the freebie gift—it was undoubtedly real.

Liu Hao returned the watch to Su Ran. Raising his wine glass with the left hand that wore his own million-yuan Patek Philippe, he adopted the condescending tone of a veteran schooling a rookie. "A 500,000 yuan entry-level Patek. Not much collector’s value in this one, though. You should check out my model."

As he spoke, he started to take off his own million-yuan watch to show Su Ran, hoping to draw the attention of all the girls present.

"That’s not necessary."

Su Ran politely refused, slipping his own Patek Philippe back on, perfectly content.

"It’s a Patek Philippe 5961R-010. You’re not even going to look?"

"Honestly, no. I’m not that interested in watches, and I don’t care about their collector’s value. I’m not a collector. For me, they’re just accessories. Price, high or low, is irrelevant. I just choose what I like and what’s comfortable. After all, you’re supposed to wear the watch, not let the watch wear you."

A truly confident person doesn’t need luxury goods to boost their self-worth.

Even if he weren’t a Divine Rich, even if he were wearing a kid’s smartwatch, he would still be confident, live the life he wants, and not care what other people think.

For Su Ran, ’becoming a Divine Rich’ simply meant adding a bit of polish to the lifestyle he already believed was right.

It was nothing like a rags-to-riches story where he needed to buy a pile of luxury goods to strap to his body just to prove to everyone that he was rich now.

Su Ran didn’t have such low self-esteem that he needed a piece of clothing, a pair of shoes, or a watch to feel powerful.

The group of girlfriends was quite pleased with Su Ran’s words. He was rich but not flashy, not a show-off. He saw money as just one necessary part of life, not the whole thing.

A Divine Rich only cares about two things: using the best and playing with the most expensive. But that’s on the condition that the Divine Rich genuinely likes those things. You don’t buy something just for the sake of it being expensive. That’s what it means to be a true Divine Rich.

Liu Hao, on the other hand, was left awkwardly clutching the Patek Philippe he thought was his trump card. In the end, the other guy wasn’t interested at all, acting as if he loved his 500,000 yuan watch so much that not even mountains of gold and silver could compare.

The girls at the party were moved by Su Ran’s refreshingly down-to-earth words. He was rich yet grounded. So what if you had a watch worth millions or tens of millions? In his eyes, it meant nothing.

"You’re too much. Love ya~" Liu Jinyu said, making a finger heart.

"Su Ran, I think I’m starting to like you," Aina cooed.

"Whoa, Aina! Are you openly trying to steal Liu Jinyu’s man?"

Zhao Yang seized the opportunity to tease them and defuse Liu Hao’s awkwardness.

"Quiet, everyone."

Zhao Yang cleared his throat, and everyone fell silent. It was time for the most crucial part: the boyfriend’s gift. Gao Lu looked at him with anticipation.

"Happy birthday, Lulu." Zhao Yang pulled an exquisitely wrapped gift box from behind his back and handed it to Gao Lu. "Open it and see."

Gao Lu excitedly opened it. Inside was a pink Gucci Broadway heart-shaped shoulder bag.

The group of girlfriends erupted in cheers.

"Wow... Not bad, Zhao Yang! A 59,00-yuan heart-shaped bag. You must really love Lulu."

"Giving her a heart symbolizes giving his heart to Lulu. That’s sincere, Zhao Yang. You deserve some praise."

"Lulu, I got a gift for you too." Another one of Zhao Yang’s friends gave her a bottle of Dior perfume.

Gao Lu gave a sweet "thank you" and then turned to Liu Hao. He was her boyfriend’s best friend, the "big brother" of their circle, so there was no need to be polite—being polite would be like not treating him as one of their own. She held her hand out expectantly. "Brother Liu, oh Brother Liu, out with it. What expensive gift did you get me?"

"I was in Suzhou this afternoon. It’s a miracle I even made it here after Zhao Yang’s call, let alone with a gift." He glanced at Su Ran beside him before continuing, "Little sis, since I’m Zhao Yang’s big bro, that makes me your big bro too. How about this? A birthday ought to be lively, and it looks like we’re running low on drinks. I’ll order some more."

Liu Hao stood up confidently, straightened his clothes, and called out loudly, "Waiter, bring us the Ace of Spades premium package!"
