Chapter 680: Chapter 3: Anomaly
Just as they reached the vicinity of the Snow Mountain, Little Golden Roc fixed its gaze on the distance ahead, and the feathers on its neck suddenly stood up.
Following Little Golden Roc’s line of sight, Chen Tang saw two snow white hawks circling in the sky above the Snow Mountain. They seemed quite sizable, roughly the same as Little Golden Roc.
"Hmm?"
Chen Tang squinted.
Exotic beasts like the Mountain Lord possess an extremely strong territorial sense.
Normally, even if birds passed by, they would choose to detour rather than dare to circle above.
The Mountain Lord isn’t on the Snow Mountain?
"Don’t alarm them yet, fly higher."
Chen Tang whispered. "Brother Diao, see if you can find anyone hiding nearby."
Even though the Mountain Lord wasn’t around, the constant circling of the two snow white hawks over the Snow Mountain was odd, as if they were commanded by someone.
Little Golden Roc carried Chen Tang upward, broke through the clouds, and arrived at a position higher than the two snow white hawks, surveying from above with sharp eyes.
At this height, Chen Tang’s eye power couldn’t compare with Little Golden Roc’s.
Not to mention someone hiding, even if there were a wild rabbit or a mouse, Little Golden Roc could spot them clearly!
Not long after, Little Golden Roc discovered an anomaly.
Chen Tang memorized that location but didn’t go directly; instead, he leaped off Little Golden Roc, landing atop the mountain.
"Woo woo!"
The two snow white hawks noticed Chen Tang’s figure and quickly called out several times.
Chen Tang ignored them, revisited the familiar place, and took a look around the mountain top.
Earlier, at a higher spot, he noticed there was no presence of any living soul on the Snow Mountain.
Chen Tang circled the cave on the mountain.
Emperor Wu wasn’t there, seemingly already departed.
To his slight relief, there were no signs of battle on the mountain top.
Emperor Wu must have left voluntarily.
Where did Emperor Wu go?
Why is the Mountain Lord also absent?
Chen Tang’s gaze flickered, those people at the foot of the mountain might know something.
-----------------
Inside a mountain cave not far from the Snow Mountain.
One person complained, "Guarding a Snow Mountain is really tedious, I’m almost sick of the bland taste over these past few days."
"Exactly."
Another person said, "During this season, our Black Water Capital isn’t this cold, this place isn’t frequented by anyone, why would anyone come here? The Observatory Master doesn’t even let us start a fire, fears of revealing our presence or something."
A warlock in a Profound Sect robe sat cross-legged, two flying swords floating in front of him, cultivating as he said, "Stop whining, in a few days, it’ll be the monthly term and others will come to take our place."
Just then, some eagle cries echoed from the sky!
"Hmm?"
"There’s movement!"
"Is someone truly going up the Snow Mountain?"
"Should we go take a look?"
The people in the cave looked at the Profound Sect mage sitting inside, showing an inquisitive expression.
"If you’re not afraid to die, go ahead."
The Profound Sect mage snorted coldly.
Feeling rebuked, they looked embarrassed.
One person sheepishly smiled, "We were just thinking of gathering more intel, to earn merit for the Immortal Master and the Observatory Master."
The Profound Sect mage said coldly, "Do you know who’s coming, what their cultivation is, to go recklessly? If revealed and alarmed, you all would lose your heads!"
"Yes, yes, the Immortal’s words are wise."
They nodded repeatedly.
"Are you waiting for me?"
At that moment, a voice echoed outside the cave.
The next instant, a tall figure appeared at the cave entrance, darkening the light inside.
"Ah!"
"Not good!"
"Attack!"
Exclamations sounded from within the cave.
Chen Tang swept his gaze, capturing the situation inside the cave.
There were ten people, one sitting cross-legged with two flying swords in front of him, a Profound Sect Foundation Establishment Realm warlock.
The rest were martial artists of varying cultivation, all above Fifth Grade, having cultivated Inner Qi.
Chen Tang’s sudden appearance instantly caused an uproar in the cave.
Woosh woosh!
The first to react was the Profound Sect gauntlet sitting there.
With a flick of his finger, the two flying swords floating before him instantly turned into two cold flashes, arriving in an instant.
One sword targeted Chen Tang’s face, the other aimed at Chen Tang’s chest, both vital areas!
At the same time, the remaining nine martial artists picked up their weapons and charged at Chen Tang.
Chen Tang suddenly stretched out his hand, incredibly, barehandedly seized the two flying swords!
*Gasp*
The faces of several martial artists changed.
The Profound Sect mage was startled as well.
But soon he realized, the person must have special gloves.
Yet, even so, to be able to grab flying swords as fast as lightning, this feat was indeed frightening.
Before they could react, Chen Tang’s hands emitted a golden glow, grabbing the flying swords’ tips and suddenly exerted force, folding them inwards!
*Crack*
A crisp sound.
The people in the cave had their pupils constrict, faces filled with horror!
The two flying swords were broken in half by this man’s hands!
The Mystic Master’s flying swords are extremely difficult to craft.
They contain decades of Mystic Master’s cultivation power, needing daily nurturing, infused with refined iron ore; each flying sword is a Divine Weapon that can cut through iron like mud.
Now, broken by this man effortlessly!
*Spurt*
With two flying swords fractured, the Profound Sect mage suffered a subsequent backlash, feeling as if struck by lightning, trembling all over, spat out a mouthful of black blood, his complexion becoming listless.
The other martial artists rushed close and upon witnessing this, turned pale with fright, their moves slowing.
Chen Tang ignored them, casually threw punches and kicks, instantly leaving this group of martial artists with broken tendons and bones, sitting on the ground, wailing.
"Who are you, what are you doing here?"
Chen Tang approached a martial artist, looked down on him, and asked faintly.
The man grimaced in pain, pretending not to hear and kept humming.
Chen Tang flicked his toe, picking up a long knife, and casually swiped it.
*Slash*
The man was immediately slit across the throat, dying on the spot!
The other martial artists shivered.
Chen Tang wielded the blood-dripping long knife, approached another person, and continued questioning, "Who are you, what’s your purpose here?"
That person, trembling, stammered, "I, we’re just hunters from Black Water Country, heard there was an exotic beast nearby, came to try catching it..."
"Lies."
Chen Tang sneered, swung another chop, ending this person.
He had dealt with the Profound Celestial Sect.
Except for the one being a Mystic Master, the others’ attire was clearly Guardian Martial Artists of the Profound Celestial Temple!
Chen Tang stepped before the third person and repeated the previous question.
That person glared fiercely at Chen Tang, shouting, "Do you know who we are, you..."
*Slash*
Blood flashed; the head rolled.
Chen Tang killed all the way across, leaving no room for nonsense with this group.
When he reached the seventh person, their mental defense finally shattered, crying out, "I’ll tell, I’ll tell..."
"We are martial artists of the Black Water Capital’s Profound Celestial Temple, here at the Observatory Master’s instruction, watching over this Snow Mountain for anyone coming, to notify the Observatory Master.""
