Chapter 424: Chapter 419: Bowing in Submission, Returning to the Cyan Yuan Sect
The Taiyin Saintess studied the unremarkable middle-aged man before her. She searched her memory but found no information about him. He was most likely an unknown expert.
The emergence of Taiyin Heaven had attracted many people to the Great Zhou Imperial Dynasty.
It was also possible he was an expert from another region.
As for his claims, she decided to pay them no mind.
The Divine Acupoint was difficult to form. Countless ancestors from the Holy Lands had spent their entire lives unable to achieve a breakthrough; it was said that advancing was exceedingly difficult in this world.
This middle-aged man’s Cultivation was even a bit weaker than her own.
If her Spiritual Sense hadn’t been warning her constantly, she would have already subdued him. Once she had him under her control, she had countless ways to make him submit, bow to her will, and assist her in her daily Cultivation.
"Such a shame. And I thought so highly of you, Saintess!"
"After all, the experience of a Saintess is exquisite. So very... satisfying."
Just then, Yang Chan’s expression shifted. A flicker of avarice crossed his face as he stared at her like a hunter eyeing its prey. But the look vanished as quickly as it appeared, and his face became a blank mask once more.
It was as if the expression had been a mere illusion.
The Taiyin Saintess’s expression changed at the sight. It reminded her of that man, Baili Star.
’He’s mentally unstable and extremely difficult to deal with.’
"Hmph!"
"You skulking coward! I have urgent matters to attend to right now. But I’ll make you pay for this one day!"
The Taiyin Saintess shattered the rock blocking the exit and strode away.
She wasn’t confident she could defeat him, so she had no choice but to retreat. She had no desire to fight him to the death right now.
Besides, she wouldn’t gain anything from his death. More importantly, her constantly screaming Spiritual Sense made it clear that if they fought, it was uncertain who would be left standing.
Although he had taken advantage of her, she wasn’t overly concerned. She had been planning to capture someone for Absorption anyway.
Her Nine Nether Ancient Primordial Body had been destroyed and then reborn. Once it fully reconsolidated, it would be stronger than ever. She hadn’t lost out in this exchange.
In fact, she wasn’t in a safe location. If she fought him, the commotion would be too great and would certainly attract others. The situation would then become even more disadvantageous for her; it simply wasn’t worth the risk.
After a moment of consideration, she decided not to fight Yang Chan and left immediately.
Her Cultivation was on the verge of a breakthrough. It wouldn’t be long before she reached the Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmaster Realm, and at a level of perfect Tempering. Her Spirit, physique, and Qi and Blood would all reach their pinnacle—an unprecedented state. When she broke through, she would likely complete the first phase of Bone Marrow Cleansing in one go. After that, she would come looking for this man again.
’As long as he’s alive, he’ll leave a trail. And when I find him, he’ll have no choice but to submit to me.’
Once the Taiyin Saintess had thought this through, she no longer dwelled on the matter. Her priority was to leave and safely return to the Taiyin Holy Sect.
Even with her Cultivation restored to its peak, she wasn’t necessarily safe; she could still run into other enemies.
Once back in the Holy Sect, her status as the Saintess and her peak-level Cultivation would be enough to suppress any troublemakers and exact her revenge.
"PHEW!"
Yang Chan let out a long breath of relief after watching the Taiyin Saintess depart. He was confident he could have killed her, but as the saintess of the Taiyin Demon Sect, she undoubtedly had aces up her sleeve.
He had seen her methods for erupting with Combat Power.
Even if he managed to kill her, he would likely be injured, perhaps even severely. That was what gave him pause.
After the Taiyin Saintess’s figure vanished, Yang Chan didn’t head straight back to the Cyan Yuan Sect. Instead, he made his way toward the Qingyuan River, in the direction leading away from Qing State.
He couldn’t detect any signs that the Taiyin Saintess was tracking him. In fact, they were so far apart now that she shouldn’t be able to pinpoint his location at all.
Even so, Yang Chan continued to distance himself from Qing State. He suspected the Taiyin Saintess might have left a trace on him, and he still had the wound from the Nether Beast Ancient Insect.
He wasn’t in a rush to return to the Cyan Yuan Sect. When he had instructed Princess Lan Yue to stay in the secret chamber, he had already considered the possibility of unexpected events. After all, not everything goes according to plan.
Thus, he had left behind a letter stating he was entering seclusion for Cultivation and required Xiaoxiang—that is, Princess Lan Yue—to assist him. There shouldn’t be any problems for a while.
This was another reason Yang Chan wasn’t in a hurry to return to the Cyan Yuan Sect.
He wouldn’t delay for too long, though. His plan was to throw her off his trail, remove any traces she might have left on him, and then sneak back to the Cyan Yuan Sect to resume his life as the Chief Pharmacist who was supposedly only at the External Refining Steel Realm.
If yesterday’s incident hadn’t occurred, he would probably be reading books on Alchemy right now.
’Life is unpredictable and rarely goes as planned.’ He had long since come to terms with this.
Inner Masters were extremely fast. Yang Chan, using his Tier Four Wind-Stepping Technique, was even faster. And that was without having comprehended the True Meaning of Wind—otherwise, he could have been faster still.
...
「Star River City.」
This city was built near the Qingyuan River and was one of the cities closest to Qing State.
In its heyday, the Cyan Yuan Sect would have certainly considered taking control of Star River City while occupying the lands near the Qingyuan River where Spiritual Qi overflowed. However, after Liu Xuan, a Bone Marrow Cleansing Grandmaster, left and took many Inner Masters with him, Gu An had completely abandoned such ambitions and hadn’t even sent anyone to this area.
It was also the closest city to Yang Chan outside of Qing State. He had traveled almost nonstop, only pausing twice to change clothes and wash himself in a river.
Although he hadn’t found any tracking marks on himself after washing, he was doing this to be on the safe side.
He burned the clothes he had changed out of.
The wound on his palm from the Nether Beast Ancient Insect had actually healed long ago, leaving no scar. His body’s recovery was simply too fast.
He had picked up some of the Taiyin Saintess’s fragrance, but he had washed most of it away.
Now that he was in Star River City, he planned to wash up, change into a new set of clothes, and then take a different route back. He wouldn’t travel in a straight line, either, but would change his direction several times.
Upon arriving at Star River City, Yang Chan entered and immediately blended into the crowd. With his unremarkable face, he was just another face in the crowd, completely inconspicuous.
...
「Nightfall.」
"Who is it?"
"Is that you, Pharmacist Yang?"
A timid, uneasy voice called out from the darkness.
"It’s me."
"Tell me what’s happened these past three days. Did anyone come looking for me?"
Yang Chan, having already sensed her location, asked calmly.
He had returned to Yuanqing Courtyard under the cover of darkness. Over the past few days, he had changed his clothes several times and had washed himself more times than he could count.
He had used both cold and hot water. Fortunately, he carried the Profound Yin Hanging Bead, which held all sorts of medicines for increasing his Potential Points. He set aside time each day to use them, digesting their effects as he traveled.
For him, having a spatial Treasure like the Profound Yin Hanging Bead greatly reduced the inconveniences of travel. Furthermore, being alone made it much more convenient to use his various medicines.
As a result, his Daily Potential Point Collection hadn’t decreased, which was why he wasn’t in a desperate hurry to get back to the Cyan Yuan Sect and had taken some extra time.
After all, spending a little more time now would make his cover that much more secure. It wasn’t worth risking exposure just to get back to the Cyan Yuan Sect a bit sooner.
The choice was an easy one to make.
"After you left, Pharmacist Yang, I did as you instructed and hung the seclusion Token on the door."
"A Law Enforcement Disciple came by to ask what was going on, but I turned them away by telling them you were at a critical stage of your seclusion."
"Nothing has happened since then. My current appearance isn’t... suitable, so I haven’t left this place. I’ve been waiting for you to return, Pharmacist Yang."
Princess Lan Yue felt much more at ease after hearing Yang Chan’s voice.
