Chapter 451: Chapter 202: Surviving the Calamity, A Gentleman’s Revenge (Part 4)

"Huh, they have an Archer."

Just then, Chu Lingguang noticed a longbow and a quiver placed under a tree. The Archer beside them was fast asleep.

’They set a trap in this forest to kill me, so of course they’d have an Archer. If I had a bow, with my Four-Star Linked Pearls Archery technique, I could at least cripple Guer Khan and Isiluge while they sleep, even if I can’t kill them outright. Then I could pick off the rest one by one.’

Chu Lingguang thought to himself.

He had left in a hurry, only bringing his Nine-foot Tyrant Spear.

’I’ll wait. I’ll strike when they’re in their deepest sleep.’

Chu Lingguang concealed his presence, like a lone wolf lying in wait for the perfect opportunity.

「An hour later.」

The two Night Patrol guards were also leaning against a tree, dozing off.

They had spent a long time planning to kill Chu Lingguang, laying an inescapable trap in the forest. But he hadn’t fallen for it, forcing them to travel for several more hours through the night.

Now, with everyone fast asleep and all appearing quiet, the two men also sat down to doze.

It wasn’t surprising that they let their guard down.

After all, there were a dozen of them, every one of whom had succeeded in Opening the Dantian and Qi Sea. Their senses were sharp, and they believed they could instantly detect any approaching enemy.

Unfortunately for them, tonight they had run into Chu Lingguang.

They had run into someone who mastered the Celestial Master Technique, someone who could conceal his presence—or even mimic others’. On top of that, no one had expected Chu Lingguang to show up in the middle of the night.

Both Guer Khan and Isiluge had assumed Chu Lingguang either hadn’t fallen for their trap or had sensed the danger and wouldn’t dare leave South City.

That was why they had all let their guard down.

Furthermore, Guer Khan was protected by special privileges and was used to doing as he pleased in the Great Yuan. They were the ones who had planned to ambush Chu Lingguang; how could they have imagined that Chu Lingguang would turn the tables and hunt them instead?

And so, Chu Lingguang was able to take the Great Bow and quiver.

It was a Barbaric Bow.

Guer Khan knew Chu Lingguang had a six-layer Dharma Aspect and a Qi Power Gang Shield. An ordinary Great Bow couldn’t pierce his defenses, which was why they were equipped with Barbaric Bows.

The arrows were even coated with a deadly poison, just waiting for him to fall into their trap and die.

With the Barbaric Bow in hand, Chu Lingguang silently withdrew. Once he reached a safe distance where he wouldn’t be easily surrounded, he quickly drew the bow and nocked an arrow.

Just then, one of the two lookouts opened his eyes and casually glanced around. He froze, his gaze fixed on an empty spot under a nearby tree. He remembered a Barbaric Bow and a quiver full of arrows being there.

’How could it have suddenly vanished?’

In that instant, his expression changed drastically.

"WHOOSH!"

"WHOOSH!"

"WHOOSH!"

"WHOOSH!"

But the sound of four arrows cutting through the air, almost as one, had already arrived.

"Who’s there!"

Guer Khan woke with a start and quickly grabbed the sword by his side.

He saw the black specks flying toward him and slashed out with his longsword, but only managed to clip the shaft of the first arrow.

"THUD! THUD! THUD! THUD!"

He was just about to spring to his feet when four blurry arrows struck his chest almost simultaneously. Despite the armor he wore, the terrifying force of the impact pinned him to the tree.

Danger struck so suddenly that even though he had woken instantly, he had no time to fully unleash his six-layer Dharma Aspect. His Qi Power Gang Shield was still forming, and even his swiftest sword strike had only grazed the first arrow. How could he possibly have stopped the others?

"Guer Khan!"

Isiluge cried out in alarm.

"WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!"

But before he could rush to check on Guer Khan, the whistle of four more arrows sounded by his ear. He swung his saber to block, but only managed to parry the first. The other three smashed through his Saber Technique’s defense.

He too was wearing armor, but unfortunately, his power was no match for Guer Khan’s. His Dharma Aspect was only at the fifth layer; he served by Guer Khan’s side mainly because of his intelligence and his influence within the Aika Tribe.

Three blurry arrows slammed into his chest, sending him flying. Each one pierced straight through him, leaving him in a much worse state than Guer Khan.

"WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!"

Chu Lingguang promptly loosed another volley.

His Sea of Consciousness Power was stronger than that of an ordinary True Martial Realm expert. He released a Spiritual Sense Fluctuation that covered the entire patch of woods, allowing him to perceive everyone’s slightest move.

He sensed that Guer Khan wasn’t dead yet, while Isiluge was critically wounded but still clinging to life. A finishing blow was needed. So, he directed his next four arrows at Isiluge to send him on his way to the afterlife.

"Protect Guer Khan!"

"He’s to the east!"

"Ambush!"

"It’s Guo Wei!"

The dozen or so men jolted awake, instantly scrambling into defensive positions.

Unfortunately, if even Isiluge and Guer Khan couldn’t stop his Four-Star Linked Pearls Archery, how could any of the others hope to?

Chu Lingguang seized the opportunity, preventing them from grouping up to defend against his arrows. The men running toward Guer Khan fell one by one.

He shot down the enemy Archer before the man could even pick up a bow to fire back.

A few of the smarter men hid behind large trees. But under the blanket of his Spiritual Sense, Chu Lingguang knew their exact positions. His Four-Star Linked Pearls Archery didn’t just allow the arrows to strike at nearly the same instant; it also allowed him to hit the same spot four times in a row.

He could even shoot through a tree so thick it would take two men to wrap their arms around it. Chu Lingguang picked off every last person in hiding.

"Stop hiding! Charge!"

"Rush over and kill him!"

Guer Khan shouted with difficulty.

Even though he wore armor, Chu Lingguang’s arrows had pierced clean through his body. The power of a cultivator at Qi Sea Perfection, combined with Primitive Power and channeled through a Barbaric Bow, could penetrate even a six-layer Dharma Aspect and a Qi Power Gang Shield.

If his Dharma Aspect and Qi Power Gang Shield had been up to absorb most of the force, his physical armor might have stopped the arrows. But Chu Lingguang’s attack was a complete surprise. Guer Khan’s armor had proven far less effective than the single, desperate sword parry he’d managed at the critical moment.

If he hadn’t woken in the nick of time and dodged the fatal shots, he would have been killed as easily as Isiluge.

But even so, he was gravely injured. If his men couldn’t stop Chu Lingguang, his death was certain. So, as he ordered his men to charge, he rolled behind a boulder, yanked three arrows from his body, and forced himself to flee toward the far side of the hill, gritting his teeth against the pain.

He had to get out of here.

With his Spiritual Sense spread out, Chu Lingguang detected Guer Khan fleeing while the remaining men charged toward him. It was a futile effort. Against his Four-Star Linked Pearls Archery, they died as fast as they came.

Moreover, the arrows were coated in a deadly poison. Even if Guer Khan had taken an antidote, the wounds still took their toll. His Qi Power plummeted, and his escape was slow.

So Chu Lingguang remained calm.

Finally, just before Guer Khan could escape the range of his Spiritual Sense, he finished off the last of the men and then gave chase.
