Chapter 55: Michael’s Successful Awakening

Michael was sure he hadn’t misheard just now. Heaven didn’t say nine months, nor nine years, but a full ninety years.

What does ninety years of lifespan even mean? The average human lifespan on Earth is way less than ninety years.

"Hey, you’re sure there’s no mistake?"

[Heaven is not wrong. Heaven doesn’t joke.]

That emotionless voice echoed in his head again... or rather, in Michael’s consciousness.

Right now he was extremely torn because his lifespan minus ninety only left fifty years. He’s three years old now, meaning he only has forty-seven more years to live.

Based on the exp needed for each level that the system had mentioned before, given the current situation, there’s no way he can reach god level.

According to Cook God, this world has ways to level up fast. But just looking at Raphael, you can tell that even if it exists, it’s still extremely hard to pull off.

A guy born at the peak status of the continent can’t even take that shortcut, so can Michael?

Thinking about it, they say there’s a being at The Great Sun Temple who’s lucky to the extreme. If that person was willing to help him, then maybe he’d still have a little hope.

But both Raphael’s and Leo’s goals require Michael to go against The Great Sun Temple. So getting that person’s help is pretty much impossible.

’System, you there? What should I do?’

[Want more help? Fine, but make it quick.]

Heaven spoke up and allowed the system to enter this special space to help Michael. They say help, but really it’s to make Michael decide faster instead of hesitating.

"You also..."

Michael wanted to say something but stopped. Lately it felt like everyone could read his thoughts, so he didn’t even want to be surprised anymore.

[What problem do you have now that you had to drag me here? Ah, so you’re scared of dying early? Are you stupid? Between dying forty-seven years later and dying sooner, you don’t know how to choose?

At worst, you can leave with a little strength. If you don’t agree, you might as well have no strength at all. That god-level talent would be completely wasted.]

Hearing that kind of confrontational tone, Michael immediately realized it was the system talking to him.

Even though the system’s attitude was all over the place, Michael had to admit it was right. If he didn’t agree, then in this life he could only be a mortal. If he agreed, at least he’d reach demigod level.

He was about to agree with Heaven when the system spoke up to remind him.

[I forgot to tell you that when you reach level ninety, no matter what your original lifespan was, it immediately becomes one hundred twenty.

After that, each time you level up, your lifespan increases by twenty more years. Basically, you’ve got nothing to be afraid of.]

As soon as he heard that, fireworks were going off in Michael’s mind like a big New Year’s celebration.

So like this, as long as he worked hard, there’s no problem, right? If working hard solves the problem, then it’s not a problem anymore.

"I agree. But from now on, the extra lifespan I get will still follow the world’s rules, right?"

Michael was a little worried that Heaven would only let him exist for less than fifty years in this world. The chance isn’t high, but it can’t be ignored.

[It must follow the rules.]

Heaven’s blunt answer made Michael more relieved than ever. Now, lifespan is just a number not worth mentioning to him.

[One more thing: before you turn twelve years old by physical age, you can’t level up to level ten. Your current body, though not born like other humans, still counts as three years old. From now on, just calculate things normally.]

Heaven’s sudden announcement made Michael take a few extra seconds to calculate. Realizing it still didn’t seem like it would cause him any time issues, so it wasn’t a problem.

"I agree. I want to awaken now."

[Ok.]

The light radiating from the center of the space disappeared. This place was no longer bright white but became an endless void like the universe.

A projection of a giant with six arms, as big as a hill, appeared in front of Michael. Even though right now it looked like a model rather than a living person, he could still tell this was Cook God.

A giant sheet of paper appeared from the void between the two of them and just floated there. On it were lines of golden text, but they looked distorted and kept shifting, not like normal writing at all.

Michael felt like it was a contract, but he didn’t understand what kind of contract it was since he couldn’t read it at all. But he didn’t need to read it either. If he didn’t agree, he wouldn’t have power anyway.

"This feeling..."

He felt like something inside his chest, with just a single thought from him, would immediately shoot straight toward that contract. It didn’t feel dangerous, more like he was about to receive a huge benefit.

His will followed that feeling. Instantly, a white chain shot out from inside his chest and flew straight into the contract.

From Cook God’s giant projection, a chain emitting golden radiance simultaneously flew into the contract.

The two chains, one white and one gold, linked tightly together, causing the contract to emit a brilliant light that covered the entire space. The dazzling light temporarily stalled Michael’s consciousness.

Before he could figure out what was happening, his consciousness was pulled back to the real world. Michael struggled to open his eyes.

At that moment, a barely detectable energy fluctuation was released from inside his body.

He felt that now his whole body had a bit more strength, and in his head there was more memory related to how to use Cook God’s abilities.

Besides that, he also felt like he could use some kind of strange power he had never tried before.
