Chapter 230: Chapter 230: A Sister Complex Is a Disease

Upon hearing this, Song Zhizhou laughed casually. "Why are you always talking about fighting and killing!"

He thought Jiang Youchen was joking, but he was startled when he saw the cold, murderous intent in his eyes. He realized he was serious.

Song Zhizhou was confused. "Didn’t Bai Yiyi only come to the Upper City District a few years ago? You had already gone to the Lower District by then. What kind of grudge do you two have that would make you want to kill her?"

He had also gone to the Lower District after coming of age and didn’t spend much time in the Upper City District. But he had come back occasionally over the last few years and had seen Bai Yiyi a few times. He remembered her as a gentle, delicate female.

And Jiang Youchen couldn’t be bothered with most things. ’What kind of conflict could those two possibly have...’

Song Zhizhou thought for a few seconds before it dawned on him. "Could it be because of her and your sister—"

Before he could finish, Jiang Youchen’s brow furrowed.

Song Zhizhou remembered that this guy didn’t let them call Jiang Qingli his sister. He quickly slapped himself on the mouth and corrected himself. "I think I heard she and Qingli didn’t get along, that there was some dispute over a former fiancé. But that was a long time ago, wasn’t it? It’s not so serious that you’d have to kill her, right?"

"That’s not the reason."

Not giving him a chance to ask any more questions, Jiang Youchen finished modifying the data. He tapped the desk with his finger and changed the subject. "Across the entire country, how many reports have you seen with identical spiritual power readings?"

Song Zhizhou didn’t quite follow. "What do you mean?"

As he was trying to figure it out, Jiang Youchen pushed two reports in front of him.

Song Zhizhou focused his eyes and saw two reports for Healing System females, both from this year.

All the data points, down to three decimal places, were identical!

He glanced at the names. One was Jiang Qingli, and the other was, to his surprise, Bai Yiyi!

Song Zhizhou was dumbfounded. "What the hell? How are they identical! I’ve been in the military for almost four years, and I’ve never seen two identical reports. Not even for twins!"

A spiritual power data report involved over three hundred different metrics, large and small. It’s impossible for siblings from the same mother to be identical, let alone two people with no blood relation.

Jiang Youchen pulled a paper report from his pocket and placed it in front of him. "Now look at this."

Spiritual power reports were color-coded: green for the Healing System, orange for the Attack System.

"Everything’s digital now. Where did you even find such an archaic file..." Song Zhizhou’s eyes widened when he saw the name on it. "This is Bai Yiyi’s? Her Superpower is a B Level Attack System? But I thought she was..."

He glanced at the date and froze. It was from a year ago, when Bai Yiyi was eighteen and had just had her Superpower identified.

The test was conducted at the community hospital in Zone X-097 of the First District.

"This doesn’t make any sense," Song Zhizhou said, perplexed. "It’s not unheard of for a B Level to level up during a second awakening, but I’ve never seen anyone mutate from an Attack System into a Healing System. The report doesn’t say she has dual Superpowers, does it? Maybe this community hospital is just unreliable? Medical care in Zone X is pretty primitive."

Jiang Youchen tapped a finger on the report. "Perhaps."

Song Zhizhou wrote it off as a coincidence and turned his attention back to the other matter. "Hey, so who is it? The female you were stammering about earlier and refused to name."

Jiang Youchen shot him a cold look. "Go get your head checked."

"The neurology department *is* to the right!" Song Zhizhou was exasperated, but his curiosity got the better of him. He resorted to shameless begging. "But you were obviously acting like something was up! Who is she? Who’s so special you’d trade your military achievements to His Majesty for the freedom to marry? Please, just tell me. I’m dying to know... Please? I’m begging you..."

He was just so curious. For years, the only female his age around Jiang Youchen had been Jiang Qingli. ’Who else could it possibly be...’

Suddenly, Song Zhizhou slapped his thigh. "I’ve got it!"

Jiang Youchen’s movements faltered for a moment.

Song Zhizhou’s expression was grave. "You’re dating someone you met online, aren’t you?"

Jiang Youchen: "..."

He couldn’t be bothered to deal with this idiot. Having finished what he came to do, he stood up to leave.

Song Zhizhou called after him, "Where are you going? I thought we were getting together tonight!"

Jiang Youchen’s voice was flat. "Zone F."

That area was filled with the kind of dessert parlors and trendy shops that females loved. Song Zhizhou knew instantly who he was buying for and was thoroughly resigned. "A sister complex is an illness. You should get that treated sooner rather than later."

Once outside, Jiang Youchen glanced down at the report in his hand.

According to his subordinate’s report, the day after this paper report was issued, Bai Yiyi had undergone a final evaluation. Her spiritual power was identified as an S-Level Healing System.

The staff there had assumed it was a testing error and tossed it into a storage room. That’s why the report wasn’t destroyed, and how it ended up in Jiang Youchen’s hands last night.

Jiang Youchen had no idea what method Bai Yiyi had used. Perhaps it was just a simple error.

But seeing this report made Jiang Youchen faintly uneasy.

He had felt this same unease before.

It was like a sword hanging over his neck, impossible to ignore.

Ever since they were children, Jiang Youchen had believed he was responsible for Jiang Qingli’s life.

Therefore, anything that could possibly threaten her had to die.

Jiang Youchen stopped dwelling on the truth. He used his terminal to issue an order to the bodyguards at Bai Yiyi’s home.

’The moment you find Bai Yiyi, bring her directly to me.’

Once she was there, he had plenty of ways to make her talk.

DING—

In the dim room, a terminal screen suddenly lit up.

Curled up in a corner, Bai Yiyi flinched. She frantically glanced toward the door. Seeing that no one had broken in, she breathed a sigh of relief, but her heart was still hammering in her chest. She pressed a hand against it to calm it down.

As she did, her gaze fell upon her own swollen fingers, the baggy sleeves of her clothes, and her hair, which was matted like seaweed.

Bai Yiyi’s whole body trembled as she let out a scream.

The hoarse, ugly sound nearly made her break down. She wanted to grab something to smash, but everything within reach had already been destroyed.

She couldn’t help but scream in her mind, ’System! System, when can I get out of here? When will I go back to how I used to look?!’

The System’s electronic voice was faint and tinged with resentment. ’This *is* how you used to look.’

Bai Yiyi’s face burned with humiliation.

For the past few days, she had been hiding in her house. She’d managed to turn away visitors by pretending to be her own maid, and no one else had come by.

But her own state was deteriorating.

She had grown accustomed to the dazzling beauty granted by the items, to the effortless admiration, to being doted on by males no matter what she did... She simply couldn’t accept the person she was now!

The last few days, ever since her points had plummeted, had been especially bad. The System’s constant, passive-aggressive sarcasm made Bai Yiyi feel worse than death.

Forget completing missions; she didn’t even know what time of day it was.

She couldn’t help but complain, ’You’re the one who came to me! You told me I was the female lead! Is this how you treat your female lead? What are you without me, anyway?!’

The System was silent for a moment. ’Check your terminal. It’s a message from Helian Ying.’

Bai Yiyi stubbornly refused to move.

Seeing her defiance, the System’s electronic voice filled with annoyance. ’Do you want to be the female lead or not? Ling Qing’s and Chi Yun’s affection levels are too low, Su Jue’s is dropping too, and Helian Ying is the only one with a high level left! If his drops any further, there will be more penalties.’

Only then did Bai Yiyi reluctantly pick up the terminal.

Helian Ying: [Yiyi, I shouldn’t have been so harsh with you last time. Stop disappearing like this. Where are you? The festival is about to start, why haven’t you appeared? Did they give your role to someone else?]

’It’s already the day of the festival?’

Vicious thoughts filled Bai Yiyi’s heart. She was about to ask Helian Ying to help her teach Jiang Qingli a lesson, but the System stopped her. ’You can’t make a move against Jiang Qingli right now.’

’Why not?!’ Bai Yiyi’s fat trembled with rage. ’She made me lose my Beast Husband and turned me into... this! I won’t let her get away with it!’

’How are you going to do anything to her in your current state?’ the System asked, exasperated. ’At least wait until the spiritual power penalty is over.’

Bai Yiyi had no choice but to swallow her anger. She sent a vague reply to Helian Ying, telling him not to come looking for her.

As she was closing the app, she accidentally tapped on something.

The next second, Jiang Qingli’s face appeared on the screen.
