Chapter 49: Chapter 49 The Second Mission (4)
Ye Nai loudly set down a box of pistol ammunition, which included some loaded magazines and several boxes of loose bullets. She took half of the magazines and placed them separately in the Space, so she could just grab them when needed.
“Do you know how to use any other weapons?”
“Not really, I just started learning Short Stick Skill.”
Ye Nai packed up the bullets, then took out that rusty iron pipe used as a scaffold foot.
“Let’s see which poor soul wants to taste a tetanus special.”
“Can you swing it?”
...
“I’m at Training Level 2 Beginner, I can deadlift 70 kilograms.”
“Good for you.” Squad Leader Lu gave a thumbs up. “Once you get the chance, don’t hold back, aim for the head.”
“Understood.”
She was too experienced in swinging iron pipes at people; she guaranteed not to miss once she got the chance.
A curious warrior nearby flicked the iron pipe with his finger, somewhat surprised.
“This is a real iron pipe! Where did it come from, and how did you get a rusty one?”
“It’s a scaffold pipe. I used it in a brawl, returned it afterwards, but they didn’t want it back, so I cleaned it up and kept it.”
“Wow, you’ve been in brawls?”
“The gang leaders from the danger zones are wary of my big Space.”
“Oh~”
No need for more explanation. With just one sentence, everyone understood. This problem exists in every danger zone. The advantage is that it allows for self-regulation among the workers; the downside is that when a leader’s ambitions swell, it can affect societal peace.
“Alright, having experience is good.”
The warriors didn’t criticize Ye Nai for fighting; on the contrary, her real combat ability was what impressed them the most.
“The pipe is still too thick. When you get back, check out the metal water pipes, different diameters and wall thicknesses have different weights. Pick one that suits you, it’ll make learning Short Stick Skill easier.”
Another person gave Ye Nai some advice.
“Okay~.”
Yei Nai certainly listened to good ideas.
As they chatted, time flew by. Before they realized it, they sensed the speeding vehicle slowing down, and after traveling for a while, it came to a stop.
“Everyone, out of the vehicle.”
The announcement sounded, and the people cautiously opened the doors, quickly getting out while on guard.
Ye Nai was the last to get out. The first thing she did was reach back to touch the car door, storing the vehicle in her Space.
When she came to her senses, she saw another vehicle two meters away, guarded by logistics personnel.
“Take that one too, the other three vehicles have gone after someone.”
Ye Nai ran over and stored the vehicle.
Two teams merged into one, and Squad Leader Lu’s squad’s main task was to protect the logistics team, including Ye Nai.
The logistics personnel had Space; besides that, they also trained daily, so realistically, only Ye Nai was genuinely weak.
All around them were sounds of gunfire and the tall wild grass obstructed their view. Among the logistics warriors were Awakeners as well; they built up mounds as covers and scattered bush seeds to promote growth, instantly integrating them with the wild grass, thereby shielding their group even more securely.
Ye Nai, lying on the ground with a gun in her hand, was also busy. Since nobody could detect her superpower, she threw out handfuls of superpower spores, letting them fly with the wind toward places with energy, but instructed not to attack people.
Ye Nai had no visibility and couldn’t command accurately. She didn’t want the spores to accidentally kill her own warriors, so she opted to hit the ground, and spread the area first.
After lying low for about ten to twenty minutes, Squad Leader Lu and the others received new orders through their headsets and got to their feet.
“Alright, we’ve scattered the enemy, let’s hurry into the camp.”
“Run, charge in one go.”
“Keep up, don’t fall behind.”
In a thicket of weeds where direction was utterly indistinguishable, Ye Nai just followed the person next to her, running headlong for a few hundred meters. When the people in front stopped, she didn’t manage to, and would have collided had someone not grabbed her bulletproof vest and forcefully held her back.
Looking around, the surroundings were a complete mess, strewn with spent gun cartridges and bullet casings everywhere.
The logistic warriors who had just stopped were efficiently helping to clean up the battleground.
As Ye Nai wondered if she should give a hand, Squad Leader Lu and the logistic captain walked over and took her away.
“Leave this to them; we’ll go handle the supplies.”
“Oh.”
Squad Leader Lu led Ye Nai down a familiar path. Like the previous two camps, the temporary storage for supplies was not far from the entrance. Once the goods were stored, most of their mission for this trip would be completed.
After finishing these tasks, Ye Nai was assigned a single dormitory to rest in, which was prepared for Space Awakened who delivered supplies. If a man had come, he would have slept in a large communal dormitory, but a woman could make do with this small dormitory for the night.
Squad Leader Lu and the logistic captain didn’t rest but went back to the surface to clean up around the worksite diligently.
With no visibility, Ye Nai hadn’t known how the spores and fungus had bred outside. Having nothing else to do, she took out a handheld gaming console from the Space and played Bubble Dragon.
She didn’t dare to surf the internet using her phone in a military frontline camp, as she was a timid and honest person.
After playing more than thirty levels non-stop and feeling her eyes blur and a wave of sleepiness, she heard someone calling her name. Going out, sure enough, it was Squad Leader Lu calling her.
“What do you need, Squad Leader Lu?”
“The other three vehicles have returned; one of them was damaged. Go up and collect that one.”
“Is the damage severe?”
“Not too severe; it can still run, but it’s difficult to drive. We’ll make a detour through a nearby town on the way back, where a repair and parts replacement should do.”
“Alright.”
Ye Nai went up to the surface and saw that the three vehicles chasing the enemy all had collision marks, hardly just from chasing.
“I’m here to collect the vehicle; which one is damaged?”

“This one is broken, but let’s collect them all. Don’t leave anything large on the ground.”
“OK.”
After collecting the vehicles, Ye Nai left. Despite her curiosity about the chase, she knew now was not a good time for discussion.
After a belated lunch, Ye Nai received notification that they would depart between four and five in the morning the next day to avoid any enemies that had escaped and might come back for a sneak attack.
The next morning, Ye Nai woke up on time to her alarm clock, taking half an hour to wash up and finish breakfast. Squad Leader Lu and his team escorted her to the surface to place the vehicles, fitting four teams into four vehicles, and headed towards the nearby town to repair the car before continuing on.
This time, Ye Nai didn’t sit in the back of the vehicle; she was moved to the passenger seat to avoid being squeezed by the full compartment of male soldiers.
Before getting into the vehicle, Squad Leader Lu made a thorough check of her pistol and magazine.
At quarter past four, the convoy set off, speeding ahead.
The vehicle flew, each bump felt like coming off the ground. Ye Nai clutched her heart, not just uneasy about the speed, fearing a rollover, but also genuinely scared of being shot at this moment.
The many spores released yesterday hadn’t sent back any energy today. Even just passing places with fungus, she would typically receive feedback, but nothing at all, which let her know they weren’t taking the same route as yesterday.
