Chapter 107: Island Monster

The siren’s slender hands slowly reached out to clasp her trident. A wide grin spread across her monstrous face as she clasped the weapon. Amanda’s eyes narrowed at her. Looking for any reason to cut the siren’s head from her body.

This caused her to sigh and exclaim.

"Will you relax? I said I’d help you."

Amanda folded her arms.

"Forgive me if I don’t trust a sociopathic sea monster."

The siren did nothing but smile at her words. Strangely, it looked as if she were enjoying herself. The siren’s once weakened body seemed to become more vigorous the moment she touched the trident.

She raised the weapon into the air, and immediately a wave came crashing into the beach, pulling us back into the ocean. Amanda hopped onto my back immediately as we were pulled away.

"Follow me," the siren shouted before diving into the crystal blue sea. Her body seemed to move as one with the sea. When a regular person swam, it was as if they were pushing through the water, but with her, it was as if she were a part of the sea and waves, and the entire ocean around her was moving to her rhythm.

Before, I thought of her as a monster, but now I couldn’t help but think of her as a force of nature. I found it hard to keep up with the speed at which she was swimming, but following in the path she laid for us was how Amanda was able to stay underwater without drowning.

As we swam, I couldn’t shake this unsettling feeling that weighed on me. It felt as if I were being watched by a force I had not yet noticed.

Unable to shake this feeling, I glanced behind me, and immediately I felt a chill like never before run through my entire body. It felt as if someone had doused me with a bucket of ice water. As if reality were playing with my perception.

"What the hell is that?!"

Seeing my strange reaction, Amanda glanced behind her to look at what I was looking at. Immediately her face shrunk to the size of a needle, and it lost all its color.

The siren was the only one not affected by the sight as if she knew all along. A wide smile spread across her face just from seeing our reactions.

"You guys have never seen an island before?"

"That thing?"

Clearly she was messing with us. That thing looks like a giant albino crocodile!

It even has legs and a long snout. It was clearly a crocodile. But it was the size of an island.

Then it struck me.

The beach we were on before, the massive landmass that moved from one place to another. It was a massive crocodile-like monster.

Just its eyes, which were slowly opening, were bigger than most stadiums. It was so huge that I couldn’t even see its full body from where it was. The only part I could make out was its mouth, eyes, and two front legs.

The rest of its body stretched farther than my eyes could even see.

Wait, why is it getting closer?

"It’s worth noting that that monster belongs to the sea nymph," the siren chuckled. She was clearly enjoying herself.

"For a monster that massive it must be an S-ranked beast," Amanda awed, unable to hide the shakiness in her voice.

"Ah, you humans grade strength using letters. Maybe multiply that S five times, and you’ll get a better idea of just how formidable that monster is."

Suddenly it felt as if the entire sea were pressing down on us as the creature’s massive, mountain-sized head dove underwater.

It was definitely coming after us. It was as if we were being chased by an island.

Immediately I vibrated my wings to propel myself downwards but even then I couldn’t keep up with the siren.

What’s more, the sea began to thrash violently as the island-sized monster began to submerge after us.

The crocodile’s entire body was like beautiful white crystals. It seemed to be producing its own light. Like an evolution it had taken on to counteract the darkness.

It even had an entire ecosystem growing on its body. And for a creature its size, its speed was incredible. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

The siren guided us downwards as if we were free falling into an endless pit. This part of the sea almost seemed bottomless, as there was no end inside.

It reminded me of the cliff.

Could the cliff be a drop-off too?

With every passing second, the monster closed the distance between us.

Its mouth was wide open like a vacuum as it sucked in the seawater.

It felt as if a vortex were pulling us back. Undulating my body back and forth, I fought through the force dropping me back, and in retaliation, I turned the water around me into magma.

A thick stream of the burning liquid was sucked into the monster’s mouth.

I then channeled mana into my wings, pushing my body to the limit as I made full use of the chaos magic inside me.

I prepared for my wings to create a sonic blast and propel me faster, but to my surprise, something different happened.

The feel of my body changed completely. My body felt completely liquid. My mandibles and legs. Every part of my exoskeleton and body became liquid!

Instead of pushing through the water it felt as if I was moving with it.

Soon the distance between me and the crocodile widened, and I simultaneously closed the gap between the siren and me.

OoooUmm!

The ripple was sent through the entire sea as the monster made a sound that felt ancient.

Looking back, I saw what looked like a storm raging inside the crocodile’s opened mouth.

No, it was bigger than a storm. It looked like a massive hurricane!

Wait, is that all the water it sucked in not too long ago?

"Hahaha, it looks like that bitch really wants you dead. She’s ready to destroy her entire territory just to kill you. Prepare yourselves."

It was then that I decided to use my mana sight on the monster.

The channels carrying mana through its body were as large as rivers, but they were clear as day.

That storm inside its mouth...

It’s a magical spell directly aimed at me!
