Chapter 103: Violent Seas
[You have slain a B-ranked Void Shrimp!]
[Congratulations, you have reached level 37!]
A sense of relief washed over me after hearing the notifications.
This beast is a B-ranked monster?! Its strength was similar to the wyvern’s, if not a bit weaker.
Slowly the monsters around us began drawing closer.
Not only must I hunt prey, but I also have to protect what I hunt from these scavengers!
The piranhas were the first to attack, thinking I might’ve been injured from such an intense battle.
While the gatorfins and other sea monsters were more cautious after watching me take down the shrimp.
These creatures were significantly weaker. The moment one would approach the shrimp, they would be crushed by its powerful punch.
To them, the shrimp would’ve been the apex. The one creature every monster stayed clear of.
Still, the piranhas didn’t waste a second before rushing forward, their mouths opened wide, revealing rows of large, needle-like teeth.
-[Eruption]-
The moment they got close, the sea floor split opened and shot a stream of thick magma.
As a result, the piranhas were boiled alive before they could even come close to me.
Immediately the area was covered in thick white steam. I quickly released the shrimp and used the lack of visibility to my advantage.
Like an assassin, I quietly moved behind them without any of them being the wiser before injecting them with my venom.
It all happened so fast that by the time they realized what happened, it was already too late.
By the time the steam cleared, they were all lying dead on the sea floor as I moved back towards the shrimp.
The shrimp was rich in biomass, so just by consuming it, I gained a total of 3060 biomass!
While the rest of the monsters gained me 1207 biomass.
It was a bit disappointing how little sea life was on this side of the ocean. Maybe there would be more when we got to the other side of the ocean.
I spent the next few hours looking for more monsters, but after I couldn’t find any, I went back to the platform.
Just a few hours later, it was time for Amanda and me to leave. Amanda climbed onto my back while I floated lazily with my legs folded.
"How long until we get to land?" she asked as she sat on my carapace and held on tightly.
"Should be just a few hours," I responded as I raised my wings slightly.
I then rotated my wings and vibrated them back and forth so it pushed mysel forward while not lifting me up.
Immediately, I was pushed forward like a speedboat racing across the surface of the water.
"Woah! Khikiki, my steed can also run on water."
Amanda burst out into loud, boisterous laughter as I skated on the surface of the water.
"We should keep our eyes sharp for monsters so we aren’t ambushed," Amanda said.
"We don’t have to worry about that. If anything, it’s the fishmen and the siren we should be worried about."
They’ve been inactive from the first time I saw them. Ever since that strange meeting. You would think they would’ve made an appearance after the commotion with the Void Shrimp, but they still didn’t show.
For most of our journey, we moved along the surface of the water quietly.
A couple hours in, there was a massive downpour. Looking up, we couldn’t see any clouds, just an endless pit of darkness.
It was the same when we looked down. It was almost as if we were in space. The sea began to rage as if a storm were coming.
It was the same yesterday too, but today it seemed worse. The wind hummed loudly above us with the force to knock down massive walls.
While waves as tall as skyscrapers reached to the sky before crashing down with the force of a meteorite.
Using my mold skill, I wrapped Amanda’s arms and legs around my body before diving deep underwater, but the moment we submerged, the massive siren was there to meet us.
She appeared above me, carrying a massive trident aimed directly at Amanda.
The creature was smart. Since I held Amanda secured down with my mold skill, she couldn’t move, and since she was the one who posed the most threat, it made sense to kill her while she was at her most vulnerable.
Like the reincarnation of the Grim Reaper himself, the siren plunged her trident downwards, but I barely spun around in time.
The weapon shot straight through my underside and exited through my back.
A hot burning sensation rippled through my entire body. It felt as if the weapon were corrupting something inside of me, rotting me from the inside.
Blood poured out of my body and so did mana. When the siren realized I had turned to protect Amanda, she instead targeted my core, but at the last second, I managed to shift myself just in time so her weapon only managed to make a crack in my core instead of destroying it.
It felt as if my entire body was being drained of energy. Using magic suddenly became impossible.
Seeing that she had missed, the Siren raised her try once again to finish the job.
My vision blurred, and it felt as if I were about to black out, but just then my eyes zoomed in on a figure behind the siren.
It was Amanda, daggers in hand, ready to cut through the neck.
The Siren’s eyes widened as if she had sensed something and immediately swung her trident behind her.
But Amanda was gone. She moved so fast that not even I could see her. Not until she appeared below the siren and cut through the monster’s stomach.
"SKREE!"
The siren let out a loud screech that carried with it a haunting melody. A look of deep-seated rage appeared on her face as she stabbed her trident downwards towards Amanda.
But the assassin with two daggers in hand parried the blade and sliced off the monster’s fingers in the process!
