Chapter 1231: Chapter 53: Intern

After another failed attempt to extract information from Serey, Bologue did not linger in the Undying Club but left immediately, returning to the Order Bureau.

Bologue had failed too many times with Serey; now he held no hope for Serey at all.

Currently, Bologue had other matters to attend to.

The appearance of the Regent King within Oath City · Opus was such vital information that Bologue had to report it to the Decision Room right away... though Bologue suspected that the Decision Room was already aware of this.

The Mirror World minimized the impact of their battle to the extreme, but when appearing in the material world, the surging ether waves were still too conspicuous. With the Order Bureau’s detection capabilities, they should have also noticed some traces.

Yet, under the overlap of the Mirror World and the material world, Bologue’s ether reactions were intermittent, one moment in the east, and minutes later in the west, with the ether reactions appearing abruptly, without any transition, making it somewhat difficult even for the Order Bureau to track.

If Bologue guessed correctly, many were awaiting his return.

Bologue was not wrong.

As soon as Bologue stepped into the Order Bureau, he sensed the spatial distortion around him. The ground beneath his feet began to collapse, turning into darkness until his vision was completely enveloped in gloom, followed by a faint light illuminating the solemn figure in the shadows.

Audience Chamber.

Bologue was not surprised to find himself here suddenly; he adeptly walked to the figure and sat down into the darkness, with a chair steadily catching him. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"What happened?"

A slightly cold voice sounded, as Nathaniel’s face emerged from the shadows.

Since the Decline Plague incident, this deputy director of the Order Bureau and Minister of External Affairs had changed considerably.

In Bologue’s eyes, Nathaniel used to be someone somewhat similar to Serey, possessing an elegant presence with a touch of romantic spirit. His mindset was so young, yet his demeanor carried a sense of timeworn melancholy, making it difficult for Bologue to discern whether he was a robust elder or an aged middle-aged man.

But now Nathaniel’s appearance had changed. He no longer had that youthful romantic aura; his mindset had become more archaic, and along with it, his entire demeanor and appearance had shifted towards a cold and desolate direction.

Though only half a year had passed, Nathaniel seemed to have aged many years... no, Nathaniel, having experienced so much, was already an old thing, only his mindset always young and full of energy.

Until the Decline Plague incident changed everything.

It seemed something happened to Nathaniel, something that completely shattered his youthful mindset, making him realize a certain brutal truth, dragging himself down into decline as well.

Bologue was very curious, but he didn’t have the courage to ask, only burying this thought in his heart as he began to narrate his absurd experiences over the past twenty-four hours.

It didn’t take long for Bologue to recount the struggle with the Regent King, the analysis during the battle, and the subsequent conversation with Serey.

Apart from a slight change in expression when hearing of Bologue’s encounter with the Regent King, Nathaniel remained silent and grim-faced the rest of the time.

After Bologue finished, Nathaniel asked, "Thirsty? Want something to drink?"

"No," Bologue shook his head. He had drunk enough in the Undying Club.

Even the Undead need to live healthily, so Bologue had been controlling his sugar intake, something Palmer couldn’t understand at all, wondering why bother worrying about physical health when one is Undead. Were Palmer an Undead, he’d likely drown himself in alcohol.

Nathaniel, unable to hear the stark contrast of brainstorming in Bologue’s mind, spoke with slight weariness.

"So, without considering whether the Regent King has withdrawn from Oath City · Opus, there is at least one pure-blood night tribe hidden in the city, and she is the Daughter of Serey, the unbound one in ’Dawn Oath’?"

"That’s about the situation now."

Bologue continued analyzing, "I suspect the prior activity of the Night Race and the Corrupted Sect on the city’s outskirts was to divert our attention, allowing the Regent King to slip in unnoticed."

Nathaniel pondered for a moment, then asked, "You said the Regent King mentioned a ’fair duel,’ admitted defeat, and let you go?"

Even though Nathaniel had encountered many Undead he deemed insane, he had never met this type before. Calling him foolish, his actions seemed principled; claiming he wasn’t, his conduct was reckless.

If it were any other Undead, Nathaniel wouldn’t mind, but this was the Regent King, the Order Bureau’s top adversary.

Due to the presence of Overlord Xilin and his King’s Shield Guard, the threat of the King’s Secret Sword to the Order Bureau has actually lessened considerably during this time.

"Yes."

Recalling these events, Bologue found it peculiar himself.

"This might be related to the Original Sin he bears."

Bologue speculated, noticing Nathaniel’s look of confusion, and further explained, "Those linked to the Devil are somewhat influenced by the power of Mad Roar, a bit similar to Protectors.

For example, those self-destructive lunatics of the Zongge Orchestra, and the gluttonous fiends of the Corrupted Sect, I suspect the Regent King’s strict adherence to promises might also be related to such possible protection."
