Once inside, Chen Ning was choked by the smell of medicine. But she did not stop and walked into the bedroom.
Several small red clay stoves were burning in the room. A pot was placed on top of each small stove that was emitting white steam.
Before Mochuan and she arrived, Xiao Si and Zhuifeng were decocting medicine.
Imperial Physician Zhang was bending over the bed to perform acupuncture on Shaobai. He didn’t hear Chen Ning’s footsteps. He was fully engrossed in acupuncture. He didn’t even lift his head.
His head of white hair was messy. His forehead was filled with sweat. He was a completely different person from the neat and tidy old imperial physician.
Chen Ning only glanced over Imperial Physician Zhang. She didn’t disturb him. She just stood there quietly in front of the bed and gazed intently at the motionless Chu Shaobai lying on the bed.
If Mochuan didn’t tell her before that he was really skinny...... skinny to the point where he didn’t look human anymore, she really couldn’t believe that the thin bony person was Shaobai.
Her body slightly shook. She almost couldn’t stand.
A strong arm held her from behind.
Mochuan was behind her. His arm wrapped around her waist, letting her lean on his chest. Then he quietly looked at Chu Shaobai on the bed with her.
“Shaobai. Is he really Shaobai?” Her lips moved. Her voice was so soft that even she couldn’t hear it.
Mochuan’s arm around her waist tightened. Then he nodded.
Chen Ning involuntarily closed her eyes. She calmed herself and opened her eyes again.
The Chu Shaobai on the bed was really thin. He was so thin that his cheeks sunk and his eyes popped out. His face was sallow and his eyes were closed. His flat chest didn’t seem to move up or down.
He was lying flat and looked lifeless. He looked like a corpse without any breath and body heat.
