Chapter 536: Chapter 536: Dizzy With Busyness
Qin Jiu was silent for a moment, then said, "I’m just afraid her ruthlessness will go in the wrong direction!"
Yi Chichi, however, took it in stride, "We’ll talk about it when the time comes."
Yang Qing wasn’t someone with a muddled mind. Her husband could climb to his current position, so he must also have intelligence.
Yu Ting was managed by the couple and couldn’t stir up much trouble in the courtyard.
Wen’s mother was just about to speak when Wen Yi started babbling.
"What’s wrong?"
Both adults and the child looked at him simultaneously, finding that all the family’s attention was on him, Wen Yi grinned and pointed outside, clamoring to go for a stroll.
"Your son wants to go out and play again, what do you say?"
Wen’s mother looked at Yi Chichi, who glanced at the sun outside and gently negotiated with Wen Yi, "It’s too sunny outside right now; how about going for a stroll later?"
"Ah ah ah..."
Wen Yi was so excited his hands waved around, and he even sprayed spit.
Qin Jiu and Wen’s mother laughed so hard they couldn’t close their mouths, while Yi Chichi, with a face of disdain, took a bib to wipe his drool, "Okay, okay, okay, stop shouting, you can go for a stroll."
With her words, Wen’s mother and Qin Jiu immediately sprang into action; one prepared his gear for the outing, and the other grabbed a bottle to fill it with water for him to drink.
The little clever Wen Yi understood, quietly leaning against Yi Chichi playing with her fingers.
When Wen’s mother came out with the bag, Qin Jiu put the filled bottle into the bag, and Wen Yi immediately crawled over to Qin Jiu, raising his hands for a hug.
Then, Wen’s mother took the big and the small one for a stroll.
As for Yi Chichi, she didn’t go but stayed at home to work.
Originally thinking the stroll wouldn’t take long because, according to Wen Yi’s usual schedule, it would almost be nap time.
Unexpectedly, the three of them went out as if they forgot where home was; Yi Chichi even cooked dinner, but when they still weren’t back, she could no longer sit still and prepared to look for them; then they returned.
Just that their appearance was quite indescribable.
Seeing Qin Jiu and Wen Yi looking as if they had rolled in mud, Yi Chichi was full of questions.
"Played with mud?"
"Went to the sea."
"??? Then why are they covered in mud?"
"A kid from the next village was playing with sand on the beach, Wen Yi wanted to join in; that’s why it ended like this."
The little rascal didn’t understand anything, he only knew he had a great time today. While Yi Chichi carried him to bathe and change clothes, his hands and mouth kept going.
Unfortunately, he was speaking in baby language, incomprehensible.
Otherwise, Yi Chichi would surely have chimed in.
But it’s alright, if she doesn’t chime in, Qin Jiu will; the brothers conversed smoothly with one speaking and the other responding.
They couldn’t even stop talking while eating.
Wen Yi, who hadn’t napped and played too wildly during the day, fell asleep leaning against Yi Chichi halfway through the meal, deeply asleep and couldn’t be woken no matter how much he was moved.
Seeing this, Wen’s mother started to worry, "Sleeping so early, will he wake up in the middle of the night disturbing your sleep? How about letting him sleep with me tonight?"
Yi Chichi, "..."
It feels like mom wants to sleep with her grandson.
"Better not, if he wakes up looking for mom, it’ll be troublesome for you."
That’s reasonable.
Thus, Wen’s mother abandoned the idea of sleeping with her grandson.
Sure enough, he woke up at night, searching for food before even opening his eyes. Yi Chichi, half-awake, adjusted his position for easy feeding and then fell back into a deep sleep.
But this night was destined to be restless as the dawn brought stormy winds and rain, followed by a loud bang.
The earth seemed to tremble slightly.
Yi Chichi, in a sweet dream, was startled awake by the sound and vibration, sitting up and turning on the light, only to find Wen Yi lying with his little butt in the air, his face red and contorted, looking uncomfortable.
Another bang, and her heart skipped a beat; this sound wasn’t right.
She quickly repositioned the little rascal’s sleeping posture and draped a thin blanket over his belly before slipping on shoes and leaving the bedroom, meeting Wen’s mother’s gaze, who also got up to check the situation.
"It seems like something was smashed."
Before the words fell, faint shouting could be heard amidst the howling wind and rain.
Then there was a knocking sound at the door and —
"Sister-in-law, sister-in-law, open the door."
"Coming!"
Hearing the shout, the daughter-in-law and mother-in-law both hastily ran to the main door, the howling wind bringing with it cold rainwater; a young soldier, rain-drenched despite wearing a raincoat, urgently said upon seeing Yi Chichi, "Sister-in-law, there’s a mudslide on Chicken Mountain behind Santai Village, half the village is buried, and medical personnel is insufficient, Mr. Zhang asks if you can help out."
"Okay, I’ll go change clothes."
This was important work, and Yi Chichi had no reason to refuse.
She returned to the house to change clothes, Wen’s mother followed, "Be safe, Xiao Jiu and Yi Yi are with me."
"Mom, if the situation is serious, I might not be back soon; sorry to trouble you!"
Quickly changing clothes and tying up her hair, Yi Chichi hugged Wen’s mother before running off with the young soldier to join Old Man Zhang and the others.
"Grandpa Zhang, what’s the situation over at Santai Village now?"
Old Man Zhang, checking the medical kits, didn’t look up, "Not clear yet, quickly go help Xiao Lin and the others prepare the medicines; we’re heading out soon."
"Sister-in-law, go to the storeroom with Xiao Duo to grab more IV sets."
Before he finished speaking, Military Doctor Lin called out to her.
Yi Chichi acknowledged and slipped into the medicine storeroom to get IV sets from Xiao Duo.
After a bout of hectic activity, all medical supplies were adequately equipped.
The large team set off.
It was just past 3 a.m., with darkness all around.
The soldiers had flashlights, but the storm dimmed the beam, making it flicker.
Yi Chichi and the others trudged through heavily muddied roads with their arms, backs, and shoulders loaded with medical supplies alongside the soldiers carrying shovels and other digging tools.
Each step brought a thick layer of sludge onto their shoes, making strides instantly more cumbersome.
However, saving lives doesn’t wait for clean shoes.
Stumbling along, they reached the site; barely catching breath, Military Doctor Lin urged them to set up tents.
The soldiers couldn’t handle this task; they joined the advance rescue team upon arrival.
So, the tents could only be set up by the medical personnel like Yi Chichi in the safety zone.
Just after pitching a tent, a mud-covered man rushed over carrying an old lady, "Her head got hit by a rock, hurry and save her."
"Put her here."
Yi Chichi, who just set up a stretcher bed, called out, and the man quickly placed the old lady onto the bed.
The elderly woman’s injuries were quite severe; her head was bleeding profusely, and she was unconscious. Her left arm was bent unnaturally. Doctor Lin checked her over and started treating the wound.
Yi Chichi assisted as a helper.
The old lady’s injuries weren’t yet tended to when another soldier rushed in carrying another injured person, shouting.
Then the third, fourth...
The emergency tent was filled with wails.
Doctors with practicing qualifications jumped into action, busy as spinning tops, while Yi Chichi and several unlicensed health workers were spun around by directions.
Moving like a piece of coal, going wherever needed.
Busy to the point of dizziness.
