Chapter 28 - Deciding on Second Pet

(Chris's PoV)

Ha, I have finally reached Iron level 9. It means that I am that close to getting a second pet beast and that means I can get another skill, something that can be used to protect myself or fight my enemies in a battle.

There are a few things stopping me and that is I am not yet at Bronze Rank and that would take some time but I hope that would happen soon as the Academy Exams will be held soon.

To reach the bronze rank, I need to first reach the peak of level 9 and only then can I break through.

To break through, the beasts would be a support and the tamers are the main ones. After all, its tamers that are progressing not the beasts. The meditative technique that the school distributed, would help in that matter.

The energy you get from the beasts would be used by this technique to break the barrier. As long as there is enough energy and the tamer has enough insights regarding the technique, achieving the next rank is as easy as a piece of cake.

So, daily practice of the meditation technique is very useful and I did that every day without fail. So, as soon as I get the required energy, I will be able to reach the Bronze Rank.

Even after I reach the Bronze Rank, I can't afford to buy a second pet as my family is not rich enough to get a pet. They are already feeding Snow all this time. None of that came from my pockets but from my family's.

It is already making their pockets light. Though they never said a word about that, I heard them speaking with each other but they accepted the situation as it was regarding my future growth. I am their child and for my growth, they decided to sacrifice.

Though I wanted to say to stop that, I am not in a position to say that. I am in dire need of resources and I can't exactly buy them on my own.

The exams that decide my future will be held soon and by that time I need to grow a lot. Only by achieving good marks in the exam would I be able to attend a good academy.

A Good Academy means, chances of reaching a higher stage and once I achieve that, I will be in a position to repay my family ten times even may be more. So, I kept silent about that. I didn't even utter a word or make any notion that I knew what was happening.

For now, it would be a secret just as they wished for.

Even with beast tamers in the family, I am suffering this much. I wonder how much others with no tamers in their families are suffering because of these reasons. They should be suffering a lot.

I believe that might have been the case with my grandparents as I knew that they both came from families that were commoners, not beast tamers. Even my mother is said to be from a family of commoners. The three should have suffered a lot while trying to take care of their first pets.

The alliance gave us free pets because many can't afford to buy them but what about their feed? It's on us and it won't be cheap. Some beasts eat more than their tamers and would bankrupt them.

Of course, in a situation like that, the tamer has to go out and hunt for resources to continue feeding his pet and himself. It would be fine for older beast tamers as they could go out to hunt but for us who just awoken as beast tamers, where can we get such resources in situations like that?

Though the alliance wanted to help the poor, the system they created was not good enough.

The system was supposed to reduce problems not create new ones. By making the already poor ones much poorer than before, it means the system is creating new problems, ones that they couldn't clear on their own in a short time.

I can't exactly blame the alliance, as they are giving a chance to the ones who awakened but they can't just pay for everything, can they?

That would cause an economic collapse.

Anyway, I may not afford a second pet at this point as I don't have money to buy one nor have money to feed even if I got one for free.

I mean, I can get one free from the wilds as I would soon be going out. I can find myself a second pet as long as I can reach Bronze Rank before that which I have a feeling would happen.

What I can do is select one beforehand.

Yeah, I need to check out some of the beasts that roam out there and check whether they would be good for me or not. If I find anything good, I can immediately bond with that, if there is a possibility at the time.

Since my first pet is a Frost Fox, selecting Fire Beasts would be disastrous for all of us. I can't fuse with types that are opposite. Though that may not affect me when I fuse, it would slowly cause problems for me. That I am sure about.

So, the beasts I can choose can't be ones that don't clash with Frost.

The best beasts would be ones with elements of water or frost, which I already have.

There are Water Turtles, which are very good with water or Frost Wolves but they are not available here in this region.

Speaking of Turtles, I can select Earth Tortoises. I might get a good defence skill. Though Earth and Frost can't be said to be buddies, they don't clash with each other as Fire and Frost.

So, that would be a very pretty solid idea.

There are a lot of tortoises and turtles nearby. So, they would be the best choice for me as I can get them myself, saving me a lot of money in the process.

I leave my decision to fate. Among those two, whichever one is available to bond with when I find them, I would choose that. No reason to think too much.

Kyu!

Kyu!

Oh, it seems you are hungry. No wonder you woke me up instead of the other way around.
